from the corrosion it looks like its been cracked for a while. a new brake would be all shiny. Just to be clear did you have that wheel up in the air with your foot on the right pedal and it suddenly came down? that would be a massive amount of torque suddenly applied the the shaft.

what was the CEL code?

generally the point of off roading is getting stuck, half the fun is getting unstuck. Its a hillbilly way of male bonding and team building. Just like when I was a kid my brother and I would go out in the canoe and "practice" flipping it and getting back in. Mostly its a game of "Lets see if I can get through that"! Also modifying your vehicle is just a way of learning about it and making it yours.

I'd really like to see before and after runs on a dyno. sounds interesting though. LOL! "it actually goes when I put my foot down at 100ks now, instead of just getting louder."

CV Boot Replacement v Axle Replacement
bushnut replied to mega4ce's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
If you can do a hub install you can replace the boot. I just did mine. long story short....removing the drive side axle is not so difficult. get a haynes manuel and you'll be able to figure it out. -
Well after almost 10h of work my Iron Man springs /NX4 strut spacers and KYB shocks are in! ride is great and I went from 32" (ground to fender) to 36" up front and just a wee bit more out back! Heading out to the range for a shake down ride today. build thread and pics to follow!

replaced both broken rear lugs, one either side. then I sandblasted and plasti dipped the wheels. also did a quick and dirty job of covering some rust on the rear wheel wells. (good from far but far from good) it'll do until I have time to do a proper job. also Plasti dipped front and rear bumpers, Its all Tactical Black now baby! build thread with photos to happen soon.

most everything can be explained by either science or magic. sometimes you science something other times you magic it.

Sounds like your on the right track....water and electricity just don't mix.

Diagnostics is the hardest part of being a mechanic. We all know if an engine isn't running it is going to be Air, Fuel or Electrical. Work your way through each system, be thorough. I know you'll figure it out. Try not to get frustrated it's only a machine and it doesn't hate you.

this is al because the North American market is a throw away society. when the asians copied US cars they sucked...then they started copying the Europeans...they took Euro engineering/quality and made it affordable. I think its a cultural thing. look at how we do anything...its all disposable, or replaceable because we feel we have a never ending source of wealth.

did you replace the springs when you did the shocks? the springs are what holds the vehicles weight as well as any load. they do sag over time. I believe the air bags are most useful when towing as they firm up the suspension for the added tongue weight.

has anyone ever taken a "dremel tool" to the inside of the intake plenum? and smoothed all of the intake ports. I believe this is called porting? supposedly this reduces the air turbulence inside the plenum.

I'm not sure if this is criminal or just proof of the Pathfinders reliability

fixed the Plastic guard that protects the gas tank filler hose. while I was in there I also scraped away lots of dirt and painted over some rust that was forming.

whats the best way to remove rear wheel studs, I've got one broken (right rear) and one striped (left rear). PO must have been a ham fisted boob. I was gonna rotate my wheels today but I'll have to deal with this first.

Salvage yard says that a '97 3.3l is completely different from a '96 3.3l?
bushnut replied to Tseeker's topic in The Garage
As far as I know '96-00 all use the same VG33 engine...after '00 they upgraded to the VQ3.5L.I could be wrong. regardless there are lots of threads detailing swapping the VG33 into older trucks that had a VG30 and also using VG30 cams in the VG33 so things should be mostly interchangeable.
