  1. No I haven't, I just sent him a message to check it when he can. I'm familiar with the tranny cooler install as I put one on my 4R, before pulling a Harley to CO for a friend, but I'm not sure I can convince him since he won't be doing much towing. I don't really use additives, except lucas stabilizer in the engine oil for my old truck occasionally, so I'm not gonna argue that point. I have no clue what he bought. He says that it is still running great right now, hopefully things will stay that way.
  2. Update- He said he bought some fuel system treatment, engine treatment, premium gas, and decided to check the oil... apparently it was low. He put a quart in and no troubles so far, very confusing overall though. Unless the dealership added a qt to remedy the problem... but I would expect to have a big oil spot in the driveway if that were the case. Btw there was never a code light otherwise yeah I woulda checked that first. I guess you guys don't have an oil warning light? At least he knows to keep an eye on it now. edit- thanks for the comment on the wheels too, one of them got gouged pretty badly by his brother's friend who went crazy with the tire mounting machine... but it looks like there's a full size spare under there so he's gonna drop it and hopefully get one of his new tires put on that wheel and an old tire or the stock spare back on the scratched wheel.
  3. Well the problem is back. He says it feels like it doesn't wanna shift around 45 mph an won't rev higher than 3k at high speed He's going to bring it by tomorrow and let me drive it. Any suggestions where to start looking?
  4. Yeah we were really concerned about the sine wave, luckily it didn't happen. Finished the lift today and put the spacers back on, so far no engine trouble lol. I updated the build thread with shots, but I'll post one here anyway since this thread needs a picture or two to make it interesting.
  5. I never got a CEL code. That was the first thing I told him to do was to get em to pull the code. If they did they never told him, therefore he never told me (obviously they didn't get a "P7734 - too much wheel spacers" code). Apparently the light is off now though. He's not really a car guy so he doesn't know the right questions to ask. Same reason he couldn't tell me what the additional $1K in parts they supposedly needed were. The only thing we did under the hood was move some electronics that were mounted over the driver's side strut, and then we didn't unplug anything just shifted it around so we could get to the nut. I had planned to check those plugs and the vacuum lines but he says it's running fine so he didn't bring it over. Craziest thing is they told him they knocked off $300 worth of labor. That would've made it $400 in labor to run the OBD II and pull the spacers... Yes, they may as well have sold him some muffler bearings and blinker fluid - I don't think the mechanics there like the sales team... Thanks everyone for confirming my suspicions.
  6. So yesterday my buddy was driving to work (after we attempted a suspension install, details on that here - http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/topic/35758-tts-03-r50-mild-build/?p=670154) when his engine started sputtering. He said the CEL came on right as he pulled up at work. Well he works at a pretty big stealership (not Nissan) so he got them to look at it. They diagnosed, after 2 days, the problem to be the 1.25" wheel spacers we installed on Sunday. He said it drives fine now that they pulled the spacers (which they charged him, a coworker mind you, $100 for). What gives? They also told him that he needed an additional $1,000 in parts (we already have coils, struts, shocks, & the alignment kit) for the the lift to go on, so I'm a little leery about their solution. Someone please tell me I'm not crazy for thinking wheel spacers shouldn't be causing his problem and it's likely going to resurface soon. /rant
  7. Lots of progress today, we ordered the AC lift, alignment cams, 1.25" wheel spacers, KYB struts and shocks, and a KCCO sticker (at least 10 hp, right?) this evening. We also stopped by HD and picked up some square tubing to lower the rack in the next couple of days. (thanks stioc!) And my buddy picked up a new(ish) set of takeoff 265/70R17 GYSAs for a great deal from the stealership he works at. He's gonna replace the old worn ones he's running now after the lift is on. Full tread ones won't fit as it sits now lol I have a feeling we're gonna have to trim again after the spacers, but hopefully not too much since it's going up Pics to come.
  8. Sorry for the delay in response, I'm apparently not subscribed to this thread and forgot to check back. We haven't done anything yet to it. He apparently is ok with whatever rubbing is going on. We're gonna get some 1" wheel adapters since my .75" adapters wouldn't fit (they have a toyota hub-centric ring). I think he's going to cheap out on lift and get spacers up front and something legit out back then redo the front down the road. I've got a guy who did some welding for me that'll give him a deal on the wheel spacers but I've been putting him off a little about it because I know they're gonna make the rubbing worse, I want him to lift it first. No problem, he seems to have recovered pretty well just not 100% yet. I don't think he's got any problems like that but I suppose I should ask. Are you talking about a subframe drop kit? I don't think he wants to get that crazy with it. I'm thinking 2-3" that can be achieved with coils will do the trick. Why do you recommend the bigger lift? Wouldn't one of those cost a lot? Don't get me wrong, I spent a lot on my suspension but I don't think needs anything beyond what works with the tires he wants/already bought. Thanks! That's my truck, '03 4runner, too many mods to list here. Do I have any more pics? Build thread link is in my signature but here it is again - http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/68031-gaterose-build-thread.html - did all the work myself so I'm well capable of wrenching on my buddy's pathy, just wanna make sure I help him pick the right parts for what he needs. Not gonna plug up your Nissan board with Toyota pictures but here are a couple teasers - Wheels are BBS/TRD RWD 18x9s plasti-dipped black then 'metalized' to give the gun metal color, if you look at the thread you'll see I'm a fan of gun metal wheels.
  9. I kinda tried but he doesn't have internet wherever he's living now and keeps brushing off my efforts. He got in a pretty serious wreck in his g35 coupe last year and I think he may still running a little slow, especially with things like browsing the forums with an iPhone. Plus he just trusts my judgement about this stuff and I guess doesn't trust his own. If he'd just gotten a 4runner like mine instead of that g35... I only use t4r.org, it's not as crazy as TTORA, tacomaworld, or the fjcruiserforum. It gets a lot of action but I would say based on this post and the context, it's close. Great rig btw! Well from your sig pic anyway. Thanks for the link that's awesome! we're gonna have to try that soon. The lift you recommended sounds good, there are a few used parts on here I'm inquiring about before I tell him to pull the trigger on new stuff but I think he's gonna make some moves soon since he jumped the gun on the tires. Also, he will be doing basically zero off-roading and is 2wd. He purely wants the looks and seems to be extremely satisfied with what he has now, but that will run out quick after those wheels travel just a little.... or he's looking at some hottie on campus then takes a corner and she starts laughing because his truck sounds like he's got baseball cards in the spokes...
  10. Hi, I joined a few weeks ago while searching for info about how to lift my friend's '03 Pathfinder. He doesn't get internet at his place and doesn't know much about cars so I told him I'd look into it.. I (really he) was hoping we could get away with some cheap(ish) spacer lift for under $200 after I saw some front spacers on eBay for $40... but my searching has led me to believe that's not going to happen since the shocks in the back will need to be replaced and the spacers are basically as much as the AC lift coils. So I'm trying to talk him into getting the AC lift and piecing things together rather than jumping in... I was also waiting around someone here or somewhere would post some used stuff for sale but... Then he texts me this afternoon saying that he just got used 265/70R17s put on, was gonna buy new but full tread wouldn't have fit He claims they don't really scrub except when flexing and steering but I'm not sure I believe him... Anyway, he came over and we pushed the fender liner forward and trimmed the front bumper a little and removed the mud flaps so it's drivable but I thought I'd share pics! He's going to add some .75" wheel spacers I have (I'm hoping Nissan wheels will clear the Toyota hub-centric rings) this weekend and hopefully get a real suspension in soon.
  11. Wow that's a lot of info, thanks. I actually saw those stickies, I wasn't really trying to ask for info here. As I mentioned, I know how it is to have to answer everyone's questions that are already stickied. So I'm not trying to waste everyone's time, just wanted to make an intro! Like I said he's wanting to go cheap and asking about some spacers on ebay. I know that's not the best way to go but I'm trying to find more info to back me on telling him he needs to just get shocks and coils. I'm hoping if I wait around, I can find some used stuff on here to help lessen the barrier he sees in buying proper stuff. It seems there have been a few good deals here lately but nothing currently. I really like the format of this site, but the stickies/pins require a bit more reading than I've had time to do. It seems that they're all started as regular threads (i.e. questions) and then stickied after good info is contributed by other members (i.e. answers), whereas the stickies where I'm from typically start out with the info you're looking for on the first page. Does anyone here use NissTec? I searced for the name and nothing came up, their sister company ToyTec is pretty popular in the toyota world and I originally started out looking at their kits.
  12. Thanks for the warm welcome guys, I have been checking the r50 subforum and found some good info. Still not 100% what to get, but I'll figure it out, the problem is that he is wanting to keep it cheap. There's more info about the LED orders here- LED Buy, if it's worth sharing elsewhere on this forum let me know. I'm not trying to advertise since I'm not a retailer, but having a few extra buyers does help get the others' orders placed (I can't order until my orders are a certain size). Here's more pics of my rig as requested Front lighting (29.5" 90W single row combo on bumper, 13.5" 72W & 2x 7.5" double row spot on rack) Rear lighting (2x 18W 3x3 flood in rear reflectors, 2x 18W 1.75"x6" spot on rack) Front suspension Older pics My favorite I have way too many mods to list but the highlights are: Radflo/Overland Warehouse 2.0 adjustable COs & rear shocks Light Racing UCAs 32" BFG ATs on TRD/BBS 18s aFe CAI Expeditioneers engine skid BAMF LCA skids Gobi stealth rack with ladder Tons of LEDs inside and out '06 facelift - blacked out headlights with mini Morimoto bi-xenon retrofit, satoshi grille (i.e. I made the grille myself) B-Quiet sound deadening throughout Custom/stealth sub box
  13. Hello everyone I'm actually just here to find some info for a friend but figured I would join in case I have to post any questions. He has an '03 Silver Pathy that's stock with a Yakima MegaWarrior right now. He's looking to put a couple inches under it and hopefully some 265/70R17s that he has a good hook on where he works. His internet is down and he's not much of a tech guy so I told him I'd do the research and help him do whatever mods he ends up with. I drive an '03 4runner with a pretty extensive list Here's more info on my ride - gaterose build thread ... and a couple pictures, cuz I know most people love pictures. I'll try to search as much as possible before posting rehashed threads, as an active member over on t4r.org I know how it is to have new members ask the same questions over and over. Also, if anyone is interested in any of the LED bars like I have on my 4R feel free to PM me. I'm not a retailer/vendor but do have a good relationship with the manufacturer and have been hooking people on t4r.org up with tremendous deals by placing group orders.
