  1. My condolences James, I hope you find strength in each other in these sad times.
  2. Yes, even the sport button did something...turning off the OD made more noise than anything... As you can see by my sig, I had a BH. I love the BE turbos and the BT turbos the new ones are a bit too overgrown and ugly for my taste. The BE's were a thing o' beauty then the BH came and although very capable, wer very large and heavy. finally, Subaru did it right again with the BT's. especially the turbos. Man, those things haul a$$. With a few mods, you could essentially have an STI Legacy. Same with the Foresters...I like them too...
  3. I am currently driving a nearly fully loaded 2013 Sentra loaner (with CVT) and although the car drives very nicely (very composed, almost sporty) the CVT lets it down like nothing else. Yes, it is great on fuel I am currently averaging 8l/100 km (huge change from my pathy) but here's what I noticed with the CVT: It vibrates like a MoFo when I accelerate from low RPM's It sounds like an audiotape of a strangling cow, stuck on repeat upon hard acceleration It is S L O W...I had an old, beat up WD21 pass me while the CVT was hunting for a place to finally grab... Over the weekend I tried using the cruise control and unh, uhn! damn thing lost about 8-10 kph going up hills before the CVT finally reacted enough to return the vehicle to the speed it was supposed to be at. I was able to get better fuel economy without the cruise control than with on the CVT(supposedly the CC is better on the hwy) It does hold the gear well so if you are trying to decelerate on downhills, it helps (so I guess that is a plus? ) I too am a firm believer in Manual Transmissions. My pathy is auto but I had no choice...Manual pathfinders are very, very hard to find (especially with the leather, bose system, etc that my wifey wanted. (she refuses to learn to drive stick even now) As for new cars...I like the look of the BRZ/FRS but they are just not practical for me. Have kids, need 4 doors. I haven't always liked the WRX (newest body style) I always liked the previous body style but that is not a new car so...moot point. I really like the look of the Hyundai Veloster Turbo. The fact that it comes with 3 doors makes it almost perfect. The latest Tiburon-derived 2-door coupe (oh yeah, can't do two doors, sorry... ) I love the look of the new Focus and Fiesta. They are more inline with the euro versions...now, if they could just bring the hottest of the hot here...In comparison, I hate the look of the latest-version Mazdaspeed3. I love a hot wagon more than anyone but c'mon...it looks like a cross-eyed guppy...with fangs but still a guppy. Koup is nice but 2 doors... I need utility so my needs point me toward a hatch or wagon. I would have to say that I would go for a 4-door GTI (if there is such a thing) if not available, I would get a Jetta wagon and hot-it up a notch. (I love the old Passat wagons...) JPG
  4. Nothing... but drool comin' outta my mouth right now...anyone have a kerchief or a sleeve?
  5. I didn't use much, just a dab...with me pinky...only on some cause my friend convinced me somewhat... Wow, its been three days and still no word from Nissan...Can't believe this is so hard to diagnose...
  6. You'll find lots more on the link HERE
  7. I've had a KalTire refuse to align my R50, even before I lifted it...some garages suck! Its good though, 'cause I got my alignment done for a bit cheaper and they identified issues that were easily rectified. Sometimes its a blessing (although it does not seem that way when you need the work done) having to go somewhere else.
  8. Not yet. all day in the shop yesterday (probably sat there all lonely for most of the day) and still no suspects. However, I was brainstorming today and had a thought... When the plugs were installed, anti-seize was rubbed onto the threads of some and that got me thinking...the issues I am experiencing now could be caused by a plug that is working its way out of its bedding... Let me explain. Two days ago, when they sprayed brake fluid on the plugs and wires, we heard a very loud "pfft" noise, twice; as if pressurized air was being pushed out. There is a very faint knocking sound (as if something is loose) coming from within the engine, a loose spark plug would create poor spark, causing the car to run rich and stumble which would get worse as the engine warms up and expands, loosening up the plug. Lastly, my buddy found an article where it states that using anti-seize on plugs is not always a good idea as some mechanics have found that plugs spin themselves out of their socket due to the car's vibration...especially when screwed into aluminium heads. Now, I may be wrong on all counts, however I think its worth a mention to the dealership, don't you?
  9. Niiice theexbrit, Wicked set-up. I am wondering about a couple of things like: The platform for your fridge...it is removable, correct? You have it bolted to the seat belt tie-downs? What did you use underneath it to keep it level? That metal bar...is it just a spreader bar to hang stuff on? And you use it to keep stuff from sliding/rolling forward and as an attachment point for bungees? That is great! I am tired of my table with folding legs and (when I get me truck back) am thinking of putting in something more...permanent (like STIOC's set up but with drawers instead of cubbies, 2 drawers in the centre and a cubby on each side) I still need the rear seats for my kids so I can't touch anything beyond the cargo compartment. Gotta think ahead as we may be getting a dog in the near future and I want to be able to fit him in there along with a cooler, and camping stuff.
  10. THanks S, I thought of doing that but we discovered it late yesterday evening and the Pathy was already at the dealership so, they kept it and are diagnosing today. The biggest issue was that I was not getting any codes at all so they could not find which direction to go. I guess they are so reliant on the OBDII system now that it almost seems like "if it ain't got a code it ain't broken". Maybe its a spark plug...replaced them recently, along with wires...all NGK.
  11. Hey qatcool, I doubt it since they only replaced the hoses near the rear of the engine...i seriously think it might be a vacuum leak now. What are the odds. I've replaced almost every sensor and component in the engine bay to do with air/fuel and spark... Yesterday as they were diagnosing with me after the injector cleaning, it sounded like it was running on 5 instead of 6 cylinders...no grey or blue smoke though...and I'm not burning/loosing any oil...
  12. Glad to hear the problem is all cleared and hasn't come back. If it does come back though, make sure you check all vacuum lines and electrical you moved or may have moved...once I took the car in for servicing and they never re-attached the negative terminal so every time I accelerated the terminal would pull away from the battery and everything would die. Didn't take a genius to figure that one out. Too bad about the $$. They're probably laughing their ass off...
  13. Yah...that kinda stuff comes first...maybe Craigslist for now...
  14. i thought replacing the IACV required the removal of the upper IM? I tried getting at it without removing the upper IM to clean it but wasn't able to... oh well...for now I'll just enjoy driving a new car. With any luck me pathy'll come back to me running like a champ!
  15. Actually they did take the IM off when they replaced the IACV. There is a very slight chance the IM warped due to water splashing on it, but very, very slight as the water did not get that high inside the engine bay (only bow-wave). I checked immediately after I went through that shallow lake and found no evidence of water on or near the IM... They are stumped. They've used three different Master Mechanics on my truck and they have not yet been able to figure out exaclty what the issue is. Apparently they've seen vehicles with similar but not equal symptoms roll through their garage...each had a different issue...I hope its just a vacuum leak and not something more serious...I found out today that injectors for YoDa are $200 a piece... All in all, they've been absolutely phenomenal. Very friendly and they take the time to explain exactly what they are doing to the vehicle, every time. Very helpful. I was thinking of going to a second dealership but these guys have been so great I'm going to stick with 'em. They'll be doing vacuum tests on the IM and the TB gaskets tomorrow...
  16. So, I took it to the dealership, they diagnosed it but couldn't find an answer. I didn't mention the service bulletin until they were about to send me away, telling me they couldn't find the issue. I then spoke to their manager and together we looked at what the options were when getting P0300 (oh, yeah...I got that one today) So, the did the flush and it did nothing for me truck. They were going to blame my snorkel saying there was a leak. I told him to test it so he put his hand on on the intake hole, covering it and me pathy promptly died. I noticed that the only place that has not been touched is the gasket between the TB and the IM (IM was removed and replaced when the IACV was changed) so they did a test wehre they sprayed brake fluid all over the engine, including the distributor and plugwires to see if anything changes. When they sprayed the IM at the gasket, they thought it sucke it up there pretty quickly...then they did the gasket between the TB and IM. There, we heard a gasping/sucking sound so they kept the truck and are going to diagnose. They did not charge me for the injector cleaning (yet) but I am getting fed up with the amount of $$ I am sinking into this truck without results. For now, I guess I have to be happy driving around in the fully loaded 2013 Sentra they gave me as a loaner...
  17. That can't be right...What other symptoms did the vehicle show? What CEL code? What else did you guys do to the car? Did you get under the hood for any reason other than undoing the top nuts on the strut mounts? Maybe you guys accidentally pulled a couple of vacuum lines or something of the sort? EDIT: my horrible spelling! Can't type the word guys properly today...what the hell are ugys?
  18. UPDATE: The MAF did not fix it The EGI did not fix it The car drives...well, ok...car runs very rough at idle, idles between 400-600 instead of the 200-400 it was at with the old MAF. Upon acceleration from a stop, it hesitates and is very sluggish between 1000 and 2500 RPM. At that RPM it pick up dramatically. I can feel the engine miss while cruising at 1200-2000 rpm on very light throttle. NO MIL and NO codes have come up. Called the stealership yesterday to ask about the service bulletin I posted yesterday. They said it would be around $250 CAD but they would diagnose first. I am very tempted to take it there, have them do this service and ask them to check/adjust the timing. My wife is pi$$ed and is blaming the me and the snorkel installation for this... Calgon take me away!!!!
  19. Hey Chicano, Check this out...Tire Size Calculator It seems that a 235/70/16 would work and I think that size might be cheaper; although, you need to keep in mind that it might feel much softer and wallow more. It is also much narrower (which should help with MPGs) Juan
  20. i'll tell you in a couple of hours...was night here...
  21. been there done that... they couldn't figure out the real issue...told me to bring it back when it happens all the time...
