  1. Welcome to the club...take a look around and you will find all the info and help you need to bring your truck back to full life Sounds like you have your work cut out for you...best part is you are starting in the right place...Cheers
  2. From the way you describe it you can get a lot more bang for your buck...rebuilt transmission means he had the classic rad problem that gets pretty much all Nissan trucks (new and old) unless you throw on an axillary transmission cooler. Seeing that you are from Texas I would look more in your own backyard or Arizona...I'm sure you will find something that was better kept.
  3. Such a nice light pattern...really turning Night into Day...thanks for the post...I know what I have to add to my wish list. I wasn't going to do it but its just too tempting.
  4. Welcome to the Club...I also have an '05 Xterra...we are very Nissan friendly global crew here...keep up the great work with your club and incorporating the charity aspect to your fun. Cheers
  5. Nice Nice186...good score...post some pics when you can...would love to see what they look like on your truck. Cheers
  6. Depending on your budget you can go with the Hella 500 or 1000 series. The best thing about Hella is if anything brakes you send them a letter and mail them back. You will then receive an upgraded set of lights back from them with their apologies in the mail. If you plan to use them in city limits then you will get the most use out of a fog pattern. Not sure what part of the US you are from but if you get a lot of snowy conditions you can go with a Yellow lends to avoid reflection. If you are doing a lot of country roads where you have ditches and little oncoming traffic you can go with a Euro Beam to give you some Fog and Driving light dynamics to your light patch. Personally, I love the new LED light bars available but have not seen any deals for them yet. Probably in a year's time we will start to see them come down in price. I got my set of Hella 500s online for $60 CDN brand new in the box on a public listings site from someone that sold their truck and never installed them. You can check eBay but also visit your local stores since eBay isn't the best any more for car parts...you really have to do your research first. Good luck
  7. What kind of driving do you mainly do...meaning what conditions would you be using them? Personally, I'm not a big fan of the large fog beam...Euro beam (mix of fog and high) I find the most useful. I have a set of Hella 500s that fit pretty tightly in my brush guard...best to go an measure what space you have and use that to decide how big you can go. On some of the brush guards I'm pretty sure you can fit a set of Hella 1000s. I have the full aluminium guard so not much room to play with. I personally like Hella because of their customer service.
  8. I have to agree with Edicer2...HID done properly will never get outperformed. The problem, like Silverton pointed out, is most people don't take the time to properly align them or install them in headlight housings that are not designed for the HID bulb's light dispersion ..and yes I've seen OEM system out of balance as well. With HIDs you don't need to use your high beams..at least I've never had to on my RSX. The only downfall is in cold climates during snow and wet winter conditions...because they don't generate heat snow and ice builds up on them. Cheapest fix for everyday driving is to install a small set of Fog's (legal to drive with in city limits) like Hella's Micro FF...they even come in LED versions now. Light technology has come a long way and HID and LED are here to stay. I do like the warm glow of a halogen but performance wise you can't beat HID/LED.
  9. From all the original SUV's that came out in the '80s the only one's that still have an off road capable version today would have to be the Toyota 4Runner and Jeep Cherokee ... everyone else has gone the over to the cross over dark side.
  10. Nice work...just wondering how its being held down? In the other pics posted here the other carriers have a member that fastens to the top of the 'can' so it most likely doesn't pop out from vertical motion or even air coming up from under the body at higher speeds. It could be pretty dangerous if the 'can' came flying out at someone on the highway.
  11. Nice to see you showing it some love Did you re-grease the Automatic Locking Hubs as well? Would love to see pics of that process if you have any. I got my tires on Kijiji...if you're patient you can come across some amazing deals. Cheers
  12. Hi...based on your needs I would go with the Xterra. I've owned an 05 Xterra X since '08 and have had my usual share of problems with it but overall its a great truck. Some others here have already pointed out the things to look for. Regarding guys that seem to think the ride is that much smoother in the Pathfinder I have to say I don't find a difference in ride quality. Take them both for a spin and hit some bumps and you be the judge. Yeah it has leaf springs in the back but they do the job. Personally, I think it looks so much better and is just more functional. The back end seems to fit just about anything and its easy to clean out. My 130lbs Bernese Mountain Dog used to love cruising in the back seat If you have any questions feel free to reach out...cheers
  13. Please post the link to where you can purchase it online when you get a chance...Cheers
  14. Most of the pro's and con's have been mentioned...I've had mine for the last 3 years 250,000 kms with some heart ache with repairs. The only thing I have not seen mentioned yet are the Cat's that tend to go pretty fast and that's an expensive repair if you can't find some in the salvage yard. When you go check them out bring an OBD2 reader and you will know if you should make an offer or head for the hills. If you want to ask me any specific questions feel free to message me. I can give you a check list of things to look at since all '05 are off of warranty so any without an auxiliary transmission cooler you are taking a costly risk. Nissan gave me the shaft since my mileage was over their recall limit when my transmission died. Since its 2005 you are looking at check out - theNewX.org - you can see the good the bad and the ugly. If you want to see my truck my profile name is Pav there. Best way to describe the 2005 X - Poor Man's Porsche Cayenne
  15. Strictly from a negotiation standpoint and the background information provided I would not pay $1,500 for this or any '93. Even if your mechanic says it checks out keep in mind that the power in this negotiation is in your favour. If he really wants to get rid of it I would offer him $200 above scrap value so $500 and see what he says. The most I would go up is to $700 if your mechanic says its good.
  16. Hi...welcome to the club. Regarding your lights...are you sure they are fogs? If they are driving lights they might only be wired to work with the high beams on...other than that its probably a wiring issue. Cruise Control...you have the same problems as me I think with the Clock Ring behind the steering wheel. Take a look on YouTube and you can see how to tinker and fix that yourself. The horn issue is also related to this problem...your horn does probably work if you have the steering wheel turned all the way to the left If it does...than that's almost for sure the source of the problem. Sun roof...this one I have no clue. Are you saying that when you had the door already open/ajar (that was the only door open?) and popped the sunroof open and the open door light went off? If that's the case...I think your sunroof incident was corollary and not causal. If you were driving and opened it at some highway speed and it created a change in cabin pressure that pushed up against the doors that might trigger something. Easy fix is clean all the contacts and see how they depress. Cheers
  17. I have to agree with Enjoi408 and Der_Vier. The Pathfinder is very capable stock and off-roading is equal parts brains and truck capabilities. It really all depends on the terrain that excites you for your future modifications. Stay smart...go slow and have fun. If you want to keep the truck A1 invest in some protective armour underneath to guard your transmission etc. Some tow straps from Habour Freight might also be good to have...eventually everyone gets stuck at some point lol. My only addition to what the guys have mentioned would be to get some extra lights. The stock lights are not that great and when I'm in the country I'm happy that I have my Hella 500 lighting the way. If you want advice on beam pattern feel free to reach out. Welcome to the Club
  18. Welcome to the Nissan/Honda club My summer (fuel efficient) ride is an '02 Acura RSX Type S...gotta love Honda V-tech. They are fun to drive and make wonderful sounds when you push down the skinny peddle without killing you at the pump. As icing on the cake you should pick her up a pair of Puma driving shoes so she doesn't wear sandals to drive...you stayed JDM...that's the important part
  19. Nice job. I'm going to change up my legos soon and still deciding on the final colour scheme. I think I'm going to go with gunmetal for the centre of the mag but keep the outside lip silver. Would have loved to see what your wheels would have looked like if you had kept the lip chrome against the dark centre.
  20. Welcome to the club. You will have to jack up the rear to get a good look at the frame behind the wheels, lots of road junk likes to get stuck in the rails. Also take a look underneath you might have a hole or two in the floor. Grab your screwdriver and head under the passenger side seat and do a computer diagnostic to make sure you are rolling safely. Post some pics...Cheers
  21. Start with checking out what the computer under the passenger seat tells you. There are a few posts here in how to figure out the codes. You can also search on YouTube there are videos there that show you step by step how to read the codes. Cheers
  22. I had to replace mine and it seems to be a common problem. The fuel sending unit is attached to the top of the fuel pump and can be found by removing the carpet in the rear trunk area. I would take a quick look at it and see what kind of dirt has accumulated. Since yours is fluctuating you might just need to clean it up and see if that does anything. Cheers
  23. Pav

    Junkyard Run

The first one looks like its a Maxima '90-'94 model year. The second one is also a Maxima looks like '95-'97 model year. It was sold as the Infiniti I30 in that skin in North American markets. We tend to get our vehicle line up changes later than Asian markets so you might have gotten that body style even earlier than '95. If they have nothing you are really interested in then grab something you can resell and pocket the cash for a fun weekend of off road action
  24. Holy...that does sound like your mileage can only improve. I'm cheering for you. Looks like you will have some serious gains. Fortunately, my truck was one of the '95s that got recalled and they dropped a new engine in it that is still running smoothly. Even with your 700 extra pounds I'm sure you will be putting up some impressive numbers. I'll let you get back to work...cheers
