  1. Yeah the tire carrier comes in quite handy for protection. I was going sledding at a local park one day and just as I had finished parking and still had my foot on the brake...I felt a bump from the back...some old guy just started reversing and bumped into my spare tire carrier...Pathfinder unscathed...his cute ute had a dent in the door and somehow also managed to crack his rear lights. I gave the guy a firm talking to...super dangerous to be backing up blindly like that in a park parking lot with kids and people around.
  2. All you need for any dog is a 6 foot leash and a martingale collar. You are both right...dogs communicate via their neck...been corrected that way since they were handled by their mother. A martingale collar hangs like a necklace until you tighten it to provide the quick correction...all you need to do is stimulate the dogs brain to focus on you to remind them who is in charge...you don't need picks to do that. Like RCAR50 mentions its all about the speed of the correction...and most importantly your body position. I've been fostering and training all breeds large and small over the last 10 years and have learned a lot through those experiences. I use 'umbilical' training and it works for any dog. You can train any dog in 2 weeks if you use that time to teach/show them the lessons of life. With dogs its show me don't tell me. Dogs are visual creatures and are wired to followed motion. If you see the homeless they are proof of this fact...you don't hear them telling their dogs to come etc...its the simple principle of I'm the leader...I move you move. So that is the type of training you need to practice. You train when you are at home with the dog and on walks...its simple...you take your 6 foot leash and loop it through the hand hole and use it as a belt. With the dog attached you are now going about your daily chores and the dog gets to learn important lessons of I move when leader moves. This is when you do your sit stay practice. On walks you can up the challenge...hard sprints and hitting the brakes...run then go right/left...walk between cars/trees...stimulate the dog and get them to follow...run up and down park benches...make it your own. Walking in a straight line is very boring for a smart dog. Good stuff with taking in Pits...they are great dogs and by far the easiest to train of any breed I've encountered. I've even taken one sledding with my husky and they are naturals at the sport. I agree there is too much breed racism when it comes to dogs. If anyone wants training suggestions on how to cure behavioural issues they have with their dog just PM me and I'll walk you through what to do. You can always modify behaviour if you know how to take charge.
  3. x2 with Bushnut...having run AT's in the winter...they are really horrible on slick surfaces. The only thing they would work well in was deep power snow. Since I've switched to full winter tires (Yokohama Geolanders IT/S) I've only used 4wd once so far to break myself out of a parking spot that had snow piled up to the bottom of the door. In my neck of the woods where winter tires are mandatory all my off road friends swear by the Goodyear Duratracs. They seem to be the only winter rated AT tire that can handle the snow and ice.
  4. If you are not in a rush I would keep checking out online classifieds. I got all my tires on Kijiji and have a summer set (Michelin LTX/AT @ $350 w/mags) and winter (both almost brand new) for less than one set of new tires. I'm running Yokohama Geolandars I/TS for winter and love them...amazing on ice/snow and channel water/slush like a champ. Those were brand new and got them for $400 cdn. Both sets are 31x10.50 r15...your tire size is actually easier to find deals on. Bottom line...there are many deals to be had. I see you are in Vancouver so not much snow but for the times you do get it snow tires are the only way to go. I have friends running both the Grabbers and BFGs and they are ok in the snow but have little grip on the icy stuff.
  5. Yup under warranty...pretty amazing really...I've had the two fronts replaced and one in the rear. If you want a quick fix get some Q tips and clean the top seat belt anchor to reduce the friction until you get them replaced.
  6. Wipe New is the best I've ever used. You just need to do a lot of prep work to get the best results. First use some dish soap to make sure all the grease and debris has been removed. Then make sure the surface is clean and dry. You can leave them on when you use the stuff...just make sure to slip some cardboard or plastic between the flair and the body. You do not want to get Wipe New on your paint or you will have to wet sand it to get it off. I did a bunch of parts on my truck earlier this spring and was shocked by the results. It really brings them back to showroom condition. The trick to applying it is to lay it down in one swipe. It is still staying on perfectly...I'm very impressed with the results...you can occasionally find it on sale at Walmart. If you want to do smaller areas I use a small paintbrush. A dollar store kit works well since you won't be able to reuse the brush.

  8. Yeah it did change for '95...its the colour of my truck The older models had more of a deep forest green...in '95 they added the emerald green. They even had a khaki green from '90-'92. Pretty easy to get the colour codes and paint it yourself or have it done professionally so it matches your original better. It will be a lot shinier than the rest of your truck but if your paint is in good shape a nice compounding would even the truck out nicely.
  9. I believe it was a Nissan kit. I'll ask him next time I see him and take a pic so you can see where he installed it. He has a 2000 Xterra. The knock sensor on the 3.3 is in the same hard to reach place.
  10. Sometimes its just a loose wire at the harness and not the actual sensor so you can try checking that...its much easier than replacing the sensor. I have two friends that have relocated theirs to the top of the block with a relocation kit which took less than an hour to do.
  11. The previous owner either had a winch there or it was for a plow attachment. Either way...pretty cool to have it.
  12. I think your answer is to find a new truck and this one becomes your parts bin. The numbers just don't make sense and you are close to Texas and New Mexico which should be good markets to find a nice replacement.
  13. I think you just might be low on freon. I had the same problem and fixed it with a can of AC Pro and now it blows cold again. To get it to suck in the freon you will have to get the AC clutch to engage. Go and unscrew the 3 screws holding the radiator reservoir tank so you can get at the Dual Pressure Switch. Unplug the switch and use a bent paper clip to trick the AC system to engage the clutch. If it still doesn't engage then you have serious problems. If it does engage then you are in luck and it should take you about 10 mins to top it up. Just be sure to follow the instructions and set the gage properly so you don't overfill and stress the pump. You can also check to make sure your Ambient Sensor is plugged in since you have the Automatic version. HA-61 in the FSM. Good luck

Well I'm going to try Picture it...Canadian month of March...Montreal = winter...A friend of mine from school had been dying for a few months to receive his custom ordered Volkswagen Corrado VR6. Its just arrived late Friday and he's over the moon to pick it up on Monday from the dealership...the dealer parks it way back alone in the corner of the lot...over the weekend there is a crazy snow storm that dumps almost 2 feet. The guy goes to pick up the car...only to find out the snow removal guys have covered it with a mountain of snow. When they finally dug it out the car was mashed from the weight. The front end was crunched from snow being pushed into it.

  16. I had an 05 Xterra S...if you want to tow its a great truck. Pulls just about anything like its shadow. If you check out YouTube you can see the mentally challenged really push its tow limits. Just make sure the cats are good on the truck. Pretty common for them to go early and there are quite a few of them...4 if I remember correctly. Also add an axillary tranny cooler...same weakness as earlier Nissans. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Cheers

  18. Hi Brandon...they will both need an auxiliary transmission cooler. I had an 05 Xterra and from what I remember there were a few trim lines that came with the auxiliary cooler so double check on that. Mechanically they are the same truck except for the suspension and interior set up. I suggest you take them both out and see which one she likes better. Personally, I like the Xterra because its set up more for work and looks better in my opinion. If you plan to steal the truck from her time to time to do some wheeling the Xterra has an Off Road package with locking rear differential and hill decent control.
  19. With the age of your truck if you have not yet changed the vacuum hose lines that is the first place I would start. I'm guessing but I wouldn't be surprised if the line behind the block isn't connected by the way you describe your situation. Like gv280z said...a good injector cleaner etc is a smart thing to do. You can't light a candle with a wet wick. After I did my cleaning the engine's compression came back to life. I went with TerraClean to do my cleaning and was happy with the results.

Next time you want to put your truck in the drink (its going to be hard to resist with your snorkel...lol) I suggest using some plastic bags to cover up your computers to keep them dry (tape up the ends), then take them off when your done your day of splashing. Its the cheap and easy way to keep it working other than relocating it behind the glove box like others here have done. Hope it works after its dried out.

  23. They look good but the beam needs adjustment. I love the performance an HID gives...even better when they are run through a projector. It looks like you just replaced the bulbs from your beam pattern so just make sure you also take the time to adjust them properly so you are not blinding other drivers, especially the cops. Not sure what the laws are in your neck of the woods but its illegal in many jurisdictions across North America to put in an HID bulb into a non-projector housing. The cops around here mainly go after the 'fast and furious' types so if you aim them down they should not notice you and you will get more usable light...right now they are seem to be spraying light to the passenger side and not much in front of the truck. The Infiniti QX4 came with HID and would fit perfectly on your truck that you can find at a JY. If you like them now you will love them with a projector housing.
  24. Rob would be the expert here...but from the limited searching I did because you made me curious to find out is that FE stands for Fuel Efficiency. Nissan came out with FE and FE+ as a designation for their vehicles that got slightly better fuel economy in '09. It seems that FE+ Pathfinders are all 2WD. If you are looking at that model of Pathfinder you should also try and take an Xterra out for a spin. Its not as fancy inside but same mechanicals and takes regular fuel instead of the Premium they suggest for the Pathfinder. I used to have an '05 and it was a really capable truck...you can toss just about anything into the back of it.
