  1. Hmm...then I would go with Precise1's advice to further diagnose. The FSM is going to be your best resource. There is a section there that show exactly how to go through diagnosing a variety of these types of problems step by step. Out of curiosity did you disconnect your battery when you replaced the thermostat? When you put in the new one was there any improvement?
  2. Hi Hagge...just to be clear...does the temperature needle ever get close to the midway mark? If it does not and sits at 1/4 when warmed up, then its most likely the radiator thermostat. I had the same problem and my truck heats up nicely now.
  3. Thanks for the ideas of things to check out...I'm going to be bringing it back to him on Thursday and I'll update with the findings...thanks for your time.
  4. Hello All, I just had my Distributor, Rotor and Spark Plug Wires replaced and have noticed a strange noise now happening when I drive off slowly. When I give the truck some light throttle I hear a very faint sound, a muted version of the chime sound when the key is still in the ignition. It starts to get louder with more throttle up to 30 km/h then the sound seems to go away or I'm not hearing it any more because of road or engine noise. The only additional electrical load items I have are my Hella 500s which I have directly connected to the battery and an engine starter. I've gotten a lot more power out of the truck but my fuel economy has not increased. Any advice as to what might be causing this sound is greatly appreciated. Cheers
  5. Just curious what brand and model of OBD2 scanner you used? Cheers
  6. Wow...that is one clean looking truck...are there any Asian markets that still sold this body type until 2000 that are left hand drive. Its too tempting to add buying and shipping one to North America to my 'Stupid but Fun' things to do before I die. Its interesting to see that Nissan still didn't give this model air bags even into 2000....great looking ride
  7. Welcome back...600hp Jeep is good in my books...would love to know your 1/4 mile time. I've come across some barn yard pathfinders and you gotta really be ready to look at everything under the hood...even though its low mileage time still takes its toll...take a good look at the belts to make sure they have not dried out....can't wait to see your find...Cheers
  8. 45cm of snow + WD21 = Infinite fun

Its all good :) I'm a cautious driver and have 20 years of winter driving experience ;)

  9. I've had a few mechanics that do alignments tell me to just take it to Nissan...their machinery is the best to do a proper alignment. This is particularly for the WD21...your's might be easier to do. Cdn Tire...I think you are taking a huge risk...this one that Adamzan write of seems to be a diamond in the rough...Sure they will keep doing it for you until they think they got it right but do you really want to waste your time having to go back and messing with your suspension.
  10. Willkommen Claas...we need more members here with the last real generation of the Pathfinder
  11. Welcome to the club Gord...some wild ideas indeed...I have seen 2 door versions cut out like you said Avalanche style. You are lucky to be able to register right hand drive vehicles in Ontario...they have been outlawed in Quebec. Would love to see some pics...the Terranos have nice aesthetic touches. Cheers
  12. Based on all the symptoms you give and all the things you have already checked...there is still one thing that has not been mentioned. I had a similar problem and it ended up being the pre cat exhaust piping was corroded (causing it to smell rich and not throwing any codes). Its not easy to check...you really have to get under and follow it up towards the manifold and look for holes.
  13. Out of curiosity do you remember the sizes of the hoses and how much (length) was needed? Where did you purchase your vacuum hose? Thanks
  14. I've seen a replacement part for the ashtray in the dash they tend to be pretty expensive from what I remember. It was an option on Japanese models.
  15. I would jack it up and check above both rear tires...with it up in the air you can get a clear view of the frame. If the areas you mentioned are infected with rust I would be surprised if that area of the frame was intact. Welcome to the club
  16. Actually looks like the front end of a Nissan X-Trail...only sold in a few International markets and Canada got them too. Pretty cool little 4 cylinder truck that has a Hi and Low range 4WD system.
  17. I get it shot with an oil wax mix that does a very good job. The truck smells like a candle factory for a few days but I find it coats and sticks to the surface better than the franchise companies that shoot an oil mixture. I prefer the smaller family run places...they tend to do better jobs at making sure the vehicle is totally coated.
  18. I found another interesting well written article - Suspension Lift FAQ for the WD21. Just make sure you get your alignment done at Nissan after you install whatever you decide on. It costs a bit more but they seem to be the only one's capable of properly aligning them. http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/project/project926.html
  19. Its a nice kit...I've been looking at that one for a while now. Take a look at the following write up to shed some light on suspension lifts for the WD21. You can also get Superlift UCAs. Cheers http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/project917.html
  20. Mine was also smelling pretty badly at one point...ended up being the exhaust piping (pre cat) that heads up to the engine was starting to rot. Its not an easy place to check but that might be it. Hope you find the source of your problem...Cheers
  21. What code are you throwing? I'm very confused...lol...If the computer is giving you Code 33 Adamzan is right about the O2 sensor. Its not unheard of to have a relatively new one die or even get damaged when first being installed. It can't hurt to take a look at the O2 sensor. Why not try disconnecting the battery for 20 mins, take the truck for a short spin and then check your codes again...the computer doesn't lie.
  22. Welcome to the crew...nice to see a fellow Quebecer join the forum. Like you I get caught up reading and researching things to do from the great advice found here and the R50 contingent is huge and some really nice lift jobs from what I've seen as examples for you What part of the province are you located? Cheers
  23. Walk away...lol. You are in a great part of the country to find one that was a grocery getter and then have the fun of working on something of value. I personally would have walked away when he said he had the transmission rebuilt. To give you an idea I got my '95 with 240k kms (kms are actually lower since it was one of the '95s that got recalled and got a new engine at 50k kms) for $750 and added about $2k in work (replaced all the fluids, timing belt, brakes, shocks)...the upside of doing it this way is you know the work has been done and no need to trust anybody's word and you will have peace of mind knowing its been properly done. Bottom line...these are great trucks (this is now my 4th WD21) but they have a few serious design flaws that if compromised you will just be throwing money away. Keep searching you will find something better I'm sure of it. Cheers
  24. Add some Body Armour to your list from the sounds of your off road needs. Having contemplated this type of modification, based on others experiences, you might want to start with under body armour and a suspension lift. Unless you are planning on going larger than 31's with your tires you don't need to lift the body...like Kyle94 stated...it won't add ground clearance to your ride. Suspension lift...you can find a lot of postings here on how to do it with brand new kits like you can find on 4x4parts.com (they have an interesting kit that has new UCAs (supposedly corrects the articulation angle) and rear coils to give you about 2.5-3 inches. Search - Pathfinder Custom Suspension lift. You can also achieve the same results with finding a set of front coils from a JGC and some Ford pick-up models as replacements for the rear coils...check here in the forums and you will see what others have done. Best of luck...Cheers
