  1. You'd get better mileage on stock size tires with the 4.3's. Going up to 4.6's will lower your mileage because the engine would now have to turn the diffs .3 times more revolutions per rotation that it would with the 4.3's. My old 76 Chevy has 2.73 gearing for just that reason, they were aiming for beter fuel mileage on the freeway, at a sacrifice of acceleration and speed. They call 'em "freeway flyer" gears.
  2. Your alternator went on you. Or the belt broke or came off? When the alt goes it lights up the A/T, Brake and Charge lights.
  3. You have air in the system. Open up the radiator and keep topping it off while it runs until you can't add any more.
  4. Follow the coil wire from the distributor.
  5. Ratchet-strap it down to a medium-duty wood pallet, then buy a box or two of Saran Wrap and stick that sucker down with plastic. You can tape the shipping slips to the plastic and take it to a trucking company for an estimate then.
  6. I cannot imagine why the lower cover would be hard to get off, maybe the prior owner was a complete dumbass. All it is is a bunch of 8mm bolts.
  7. Check your swaybar bolts and mounts too. Could still be struts topping out, I dunno. We need good pics!
  8. Someone stuck something into the little cargo area panels in the rear? Pull panels and have a look.
  9. It's not going to get good gas mileage, if that's what you were looking for initially. 15 city, 18 highway in stock like-new shape. The Max/300Z covers are different IIRC, sorry.
  10. Perhaps the new one you got didn't work out of the box. I know that's a crap answer, but it happens.
  11. Water expands as it heats up. By filling the system to capacity when cool and then heating it all up, it will overpressurize and overflow the bottle. Could be something else, I couldn't say.
  12. A quick Google of "propane conversion kit" comes up with about two US companies that even offer kits, one of which is off-road only and will not sell kits to the general public with stock vehicles because it's not smog certified. Basically, we have no manufacturers of kits available here unless you drive an older carbureted vehicle exempt from smog. I did, however, find this... http://www.technocarb.com/
  13. Propane runs $2.09 a pound/gallon here right now. I think the biggest detraction is the fuel tank that has to be stored inside the vehicle....nobody wants an explosion in case of a wreck.
  14. Not necessarily. Some people report Nissan dealerships as unable to align their Pathy at all, for whatever reason.
  15. The problem is finding a Nissan diesel and then finding parts for it. They're not sold in the US, you'll have to order every part you need from Japan or Canada or Australia or something. Other than that, you could try to find any diesel engine and tranny and put it in yourself. It'll be innovative but expensive. I highly doubt you'll recoup the costs through fuel savings any time soon. You'd be better off to sell the Pathy and buy a VW Rabbit.
  16. I have no idea. You say there's already problems with it, so there's no way to tell if it's just a matter of stock shift performance being cruddy or if there's something shredded inside already that's causing the problem.
  17. Just remember that if that belt breaks for any reason, regardless of mileage, it usually ruins the engine and you have to pay out the ass to get it rebuilt. These are not cheap engines to work on.
  18. Grease the turn stops and their corresponding seats. That's all it takes to fix this problem.
  19. On WD21's you can tow it on the rear wheels with the t-case in neutral. Says not to in the manual, but people do it all the time and it works fine. If you really damaged it by hydrolocking the engine the heads should be fine, it's going to be the rods or bottom end that are messed up. What happens is water enters the cylinder and fills it, then when the piston comes back up with both valves closed (compression stroke), it tries to compress a cylinder full of water and the rods can't take that much pressure, so one or more of the rods bend. If they bend badly enough they can prevent the engine from turning over.
  20. You can always heat-bag a turbo so it's effectively sealed away from contaminants. I think a single-turbo V6 would be great for offroading.
  21. One of these days I'm gonna have to pull ALL the wiring out of the Pathy and re-do all of it. I simply added to the existing mess every time I added new lights. They're all fused of course, but still. Meh.
