So I just read something about this being a recall item? Why didn't the dealer fix it when they had it in for the strut tower and gas filler repair?
-
Yeah. That's the part in the video. The joint there.
-
I hope this is really the noise. The shaft appears to move side to side when turned (when a load is applied) with the car off. Haha. It does clunk when I wiggle it hard.
-
wtf? my steering shaft is LOOSE just before it meets and goes into the firewall! (engine bay side!) holy crap! i hope that i can just tighten it up? hope it doesnt fall off on my way to work. i don;t have time to try right now. getting ready to leave as i type! lol. but wow... here's a video https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=575391529164646&set=vb.100000814125250&type=3

Yeah. It does this when it's turned off. With my sister turning the wheel back and forth. Yet with the truck running. Turning back and forth you have to do it vigorous to get the clunk. Otherwise you gotta drive it. I'll try putting my hand on the isolator youre referring to tomorrow. Since I'm at work til ten and won't have help that late... Nothing seems to have any play though when my sister turns it...

So i've always had this "clunk" but it used to only be over HARD bumps. Now its over any bump in the road. and if i shut the car off and move the wheel back and forth (my sister helped on this part) i get a solid clunk up into the steering wheel. but i looked around and there is visually no "play" IN THE tie rod ends. and the steering rack itself doesn't "move" sounds like maybe the u joints in the steering shaft or the rack its self?? I really don't know what it is... Any one else experienced this??

Front fenders have a different bulge and have a different cut for the markers.
-
Clunk and then nothing? That doesn't sound so good.... usually when reverse goes out it just stops working.

does't look like a spider gear does it? Hard to tell... that's what the diff in the 88 i used to ahve did, was like a rachet rear end around corners and eventually got worse to where it snapped and popped at low speed turns. i have pics somewhere. something like 5 spider gear teeth snapped before i took it apart -

Just got back from the shop. Truck has warped rotors and they told me to adjust the rear drums. Why didn't I think of that? Lol. -

Upon playing around making it clunk today. I discovered. It is defiantly something in the drivers side hub/brake/strut. It does it when I change directions. Like if I go in reverse it sometime does it depending on angle. And then when I go to go forward it clunks. But it goes to the shop wednesday at eleven for the brake issue to get check out. And then to Nissan/ford for two recalls. Filler tube. And the strut tower recall. Just to get inspected though. -

Regarding the brakes? I already. Did. As for the clunking. I have not. It's going to the shop tomorrow to see how much they will charge to look at. And then the Nissan dealership so they can fix the starting strut rot and prevent it from doing more. Hooray for having a day off. Lol. -

I suppose that could be.. it's deff coming from the front end. sometimes i can make it do it by turning the wheel. -
