  1. I noticed based on the picture of your R50 that you are running dual fiberglass antennas. If you take constructive criticism well, please read my following post. There is a lot of mis-information floating around out there about dual antennas and their purpose or performance. The place you normally see dual antennas is on the big rigs. The antennas are normally mounted on the mirrors on either side of the truck. The reason large trucks use this configuration is because the size and shape of the cab and/or trailer would block the signal of one antenna mounted on one side of the truck. If for example they only had one antenna on the drivers side of the truck, much of their signal would not radiate out from the passenger side of the vehicle reducing their signal in that direction. The dual antennas create an effective way for large trucks to radiate a signal on both sides of their vehicle. This type of configuration also creates a front-to-back type of radiating pattern so that signal is emphasized to the front and the back of the truck which in the case of a trucker traveling down a long highway is a good thing. To achieve the best radiating pattern dual antennas should be placed a 1/2 wave apart when installing. This is roughly 204 inches apart. The average width of a tractor/trailer is 102" which doesn't come close to meeting the proper spacing but because of their specific problems a dual antenna setup can be effective. Dual antennas for most vehicles is not a practical venture as you can not place them far enough apart to maximize the dual antenna gain or radiating effect. An example would be the any vehicle where the dual antennas are mounted only 81 inches from each other. A number of things were done that would create problematic signal radiation. Antennas that are not above the height of the vehicle. They are mounted close to the vehicle body which would cause unwanted signal reflection, and they are mounted on the very back of the vehicle making the vehicles signal very directional) Hope this helps.
  2. That is correct, you need 4 on each side to get the camber correctly set.
  3. Had some fun out in the desert today outside of El Paso, TX.
  4. Middle age huh? 177K no problem.
  5. Forget the Rancho's in the front, go with the KYB-GR2 and new nissan strut bearings. I bought the Ranchos in the front and they died in 2 months. KYB's last and they work well.
  6. I have a 1998 R50 with 189K and the engine is going strong. These engines are built to last and the tranny is still strong also. Downfall is the gas mileage. Have fun with that lift. you can get the parts at www.4x4parts.com Read the pinned topics on this forum and you will learn what most of us have done on lifts for the R50. Basically the do's and dont's on buying parts and how to install the lift.
  7. I did the same. If your looking for the 2" heighth, The A/C lift is the way to go. No problems with my CV's. I off-road and tow a trailer with no problems. I did have to install 1.5" adapters on all for wheels which gives it a nice stance on a 285/70R/17 Tire. 33's respectively. Having fun with it. Ready for that SFD 6" lift now for some more fun.
  8. You won't get much lift on those OME's. I installed the AC lift and got much more clearance at 2" than .5" you get from an OME. You can get a 6" lift if you go with an SFD. Follow the threads on this forum on an SFD.
  9. On a timing belt: When in doubt, change it out. Along with the thermostate and water pump. Factory advises every 100K to change out the timing belt.
  10. Check out Jim Wolf technologies on line. They have a mid level cam that would get you up in range but only improves mid range, not lower end torque.
  11. Yep, adapters work well for that application. I'm using them with no problems and i'm running a 17 inch rim.
  12. hahahahahaha, It was a polite way to say "NO" we don't want to make one.
  13. Wow that looks god Mud!!! Good job on that front bumper and with the winch and SFD on, I ready to get my stuff soon. Have you guys though of a price on making that front bumper? It's nice a tight up front which is great for the approach. That's what I'm looking for. The ARB bumper sticks out too far for my taste.
  14. I did have a bag fail on me. Got them replaced. Don't have a problem with the 2" A/C lift which takes care of most loads and I tow a trailer that has a tongue weight of 250 lbs.
  15. I run 1 1/2 inch adapters on mine with my 17" rims, works great. You will need to trim however. Even with a 2" lift.
  16. If your looking for more lift, go with the SFD like Silvapathy did. I'm waiting for mine in the mail now.
  17. I had front Rancho struts when I first installed my lift and they died about 3 months later. I dont' recommend going with those struts at all. They are terribel. I installed the KYB-GR2 struts and they made a huge change in performance. I'm very satisfied with these struts and they do great off-roading.
  18. After you put on that 2" inch lift, it won't ride like a cloud anymore but you will get other benifits from it like clearance for larger tires and then going big on the trails. It will ride like an off-road vehicle should.
  19. Nice place for that hook up. Looks like a real clean set up. I'm using a Wilson 1000 mag mount right now and i'm going to drill the top instead since the lip on the roof doesn't allow the mag mount to sit well. Now I'm debating whether to go this route since you did such a clean job on the installation.
  20. I have 265's on mine and had to 1 1/2 inch spacers. Mainly because of the 17" rims and backspacing on the rim. Works well and I'm happy with the performance so far. Really want 285's next.
  21. I agree. I'm very interested in this set up on mine. Let us know how the tests turned out.
  22. I bought a small black plastic switch, installed it next to the rear wiper switch and used it to turn off the retractable antenna. I also have my amps hooked up to another switch next to that one if I need to turn them off as well. works great.
  23. I have airlifts on mine and tow and enclosed trailer. Works great!!. Make sure you get the the air compressor, gauge and valve so you can engage the the system while sitting in your car. I have a 2" lift on my rig now so it doesn't sag much but still use the airlifts for a better ride. it's worth the money.
