thanks Precise for finding this thread and now to revive it: 94 SE from Florida as far as I know, no pre-cat,also my 87 Hardbody with the VG30i bought new in NY no pre-cat
-
so who put them on? They are not shown in the Nissan FAST program for any area???
-
I would also prefer the gauge as you can see the different temps compared to going with the ECU signal that just triggers a light at a set temp
-
I will use a mechanical tranny temp gauge as I did in my 87 Hardbody, no ground issue and more reliable, in my 94 PF the location you used for the gauge looks good, this pic is from my 87: all autometer 2 5/8" gauges notice the little switches below the center vents, for all my lights, nice when you use relays the switches can be so small, lol
-
you are correct a 31/10.50 on a 10 will make the sidewalls bulge out, I personally don't like how that looks, as it leaves the sidewall out in the open too much for damage
-
I always use Mobil one 10W30 no problems
-
don't think the manuals before 93 were available for download but the later manuals should be the same in regards to your light problem here is the diagram for a manual trans pathfinder from the 94 FSM: here is the diagram for a auto trans pathfinder from the 94 FSM:

when I had the AC repaired in my sentra it was converted, all the guy did was put the adapters on the high and low side fittings, replace the drier, compressor and expansion valve, pulled a vacuum on the system, no leaks and charged it, oh added the proper amount of oil in the new compressor, my sentra cools into the 30's no problems
-
I would just use the block that I posted the pic of, "tee fitting" if that's what we are calling it, I never had any problems with it
-
I understand what you are saying and honestly do not know, I know that the autometer electric senders say they are designed for the autometer gauges and will not work with a factory gauge, but as you said what signal does the wire going to the ECU supply??? We will have to wait for someone that has done this already to comment, or do as I did and use a mechanical gauge.
-
what oil filter are you using? I tried a Napa Gold filter one time and the engine ticked like crazy, removed it and went back to a Nissan one and it stopped, now I either use Nissan or pure one which works good too.
-
you would probably have to use a electrical temp. sender instead of the mechanical type. Such as this: http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=2800&sid=15

just checked under my 94, no pre cat
-
that is weird that it does not show that in the FAST program
-
when I looked that up in FAST I did not specify cal or federal models so that diagram should be all the pathfinders, the other thing that I was noticing is the fact that the pre-cat is welded to the normal cat, I would think if that was factory installed there would be a flange between the 2, even though it says Nissan on it does not mean it came on that truck from the factory. Just checked all other V6 engine model cars/trucks, only one I see that has a pre cat is the 350Z, also checked the Japanese version pathfinders no pre-cat either
-
the other thing to take into consideration if tapping the pan is to make sure there is room inside the pan for the temp. sender, a mechanical gauge sender (Autometer anyway) is about 2" long, maybe not as long once it goes thru the "bung" and pan but still would not want it to hit anything inside the pan. is the temp hookup point using the factor wiring one of these, on the lower left corner:
-
that is weird as the Nissan FAST program for any year does not show a pre-cat, pic below: On my old 87 Hardbody, I originally had one of the original flowmasters, no series number black case, it sounded good but the case cracked than went to a Supertrrap tunable muffler which was a pain in the as-!!, finally had 2.25" stainless pipe bent from the muffler back and had a stainless Borla muffler installed, I liked how that one sounded. I also ran the truck with and without a cat converter, and had a aftermarket high flow cat on it when I got rid of it.
-
if you were to drill and tap the pan, I would pickup an extra pan from a junkyard, drill and tap it and than drop the factory one and swap them, that way no real down time or unknown problems with tapping the stock one.
-
all it was ,was a block of aluminum, I beleive the 2 small holes on the side go all the way thru and are used for mounting
-
on my 87 Hardbody when I had the tranny rebuilt the first time, the shop added an external trans cooler and I got this part for them to add into one of the tranny lines ( the out line from the trans), this part worked good and is made by Autometer for the exact purpose of installing a temp gauge, this part comes with compression fittings but you can use barbed fitting instead, that's what we did, pic below the gauge sender screws into the big threaded hole here is a link to the part on Summit site, this adapter comes in two sizes for 3/8" or 5/16" tubing but that shouldn't matter if you use the barbed fittings http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-2286/

I plan on replacing the accordion pipe on mine soon, I read when I had my 01 dakota that just replacing the accordion pipe made a difference, so on that truck I made a intake using a K&N cone filter using 3" pvc, it looked ghetto but it worked
-
the hub size and bolt pattern look correct to me
-
I bought that grille about 20 years ago I'm sure the company is long gone, don't know what company even made it, may call my old boss tomorrow to see if he can remember
-
here are 2 pics of what I'm using:
