On the VG30E motors, the coolant temp sensors are up in front of the engine just before the large black tube that goes to the radiator. The one that gives the ECU the temp signal is the onewith the yellow shell connector. The only thing in the trough between the heads is the knock sensor.

If you are talking about the Idle Air Control Valve solenoid, it isn't a sensor. It should go to a connector in the stack of wires by the oil fill port. It is the only one with 2 wires. I think they are orange and black. Take a multimeter and measure the resistance across those two wires. It should read ~10ohms. If it doesn't, then that solenoid is bad, or the wires to it.

I just went out and looked at my junk pathfinder, and I can't find a harness with the colors you are talking about in the quantity listed. Do you know more about what the end was supposed to connect to? Take some pics and post them up, then maybe I we will have a better idea of what you are dealing with.

That is the transmission control unit telling you that there is a problem with one of the component that it monitors. Follow the transmission diagnostic procedure in the Factory Service Manual to determine which part in particular is not working properly.
-
That information is not stored in the ECU. There is not signal generated that keeps track track of distance, as the odometer is purely mechanical.

Transmission Power light flashes blinks on start up

Follow the procedures in the FSM for the transmission diagnostics check. It gives you a break-down of what the flashes mean specifically. It is in the AT section of the FSM -
attn 90-95 WD21 users: what kind of gas do you use?
Indigent replied to ajspath's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
I feel the need to chime in on this. There is absolutely NO high octane fuel map in the Pathfinder ECU. I have the bin files if you would like to look at them sometime (from 1987,1990,1991,1995.) There is a knock fuel map and a normal fuel map. Some Nissan ECUs (300ZX for example) have the high octane, regular octane, and knock, but not the Pathy. Additionally, the knock fuel map only reduces injector pulsewidth in the 2000-3500 RPM range. These ECUs timing maps are tuned for 87 octane. There is only one timing map, and the knock sensor is only monitoring the area of the last 3 columns and upper 9 rows of that map. The area outlined in red in the picture. The knock sensor in the Pathfinder is suprisingly not very effectively utilized. Compared to the 300zx that has a whole seperate knock timing map. To boil that down, the Pathfinder ECU is not listening for knock except at the very highest engine loads (MAF reading) and only up to about 4400 RPM. For some reason the picture doesn't show, but if you click on it it works. -
Mine was a TD27T, and I remember it being able to shift normally when in hold mode both up and down, but when I stomped on the pedal, it would not go into power mode.
-
This doesn't particularly help, but the Terranos have a third position in the switch called Hold. It prevents the tranny from entering power mode. Since it is the exact same tranny, I doubt that they made any changes in the TCU program. It may well just be a wiring thing, who knows. I am curious now, and I am going to look into the schematics and see.

I would bet a large sum that it is the power wires at the Positive terminal of your battery. Thoroughly check each wire that connects to the terminal. It is amazing how many spider off of there. The EXACT same thing happened to me. I was just driving, and it quit. I found those wires were corroded. Once I re-terminated them it ran just fine.
-
I would run the transmission diagnostic check. I suspect that your throttle position swith might be bad. It is not monitored by the ECU, but will show up on the TCU check. Even if the TCU check passes, it could still be bad, because the TCU check doesn't measure the resistance at each 1/8 position. The only way to really check the TPS is to get a multimeter and measure the resistance at each 1/8 section of stroke.
-
Could be a sticky fuel injector.
-
The Terranos have two tanks. One for the headlight misters and one for the windows. There could be something blocking the inlet of the pump. I believe it is the one with the green connector attached to the tank. Drain the tank and pull the pump and see.
-
You shouldn't have to cut ANY wires. All of the wires that connect to the tranny just go up the passenger side of the engine and connect just behind the battery. All you do is disconnect the wires there and drop them down to the ground. No cutting necessary.

One other thing to think about when burning out those lower bushings is to shield the engine bay from the heat and flames. I used a MAP Gas torch and the flames were pretty big. I took an old license plate and made a shield to prevent burning of the starter wires on the passenger side and the power steering box on the drivers side. Once the rubber has been on fire for about a minute, It will just push right out. I took a large socket and just pressed it out to the front while it was on fire. Definitely not a fun job, but man is it worth the time and effort.

It is still the RE4R01A transmission, FYI.

I searched for a bit and couldn't find this tidbit, so I am posting this up for future reference for everyone. I am in the process of rebuilding a 95 for my wife, and needed to buy some headbolts. I normally only shop on www.rockauto.com because of the great prices and whatnot. I was surprised to find that they do NOT have head bolts for the 90-95 pathfinder, however they DO have head bolts for the 96 and up. I then began a google search to see if anyone carries the ones I needed. I was dissapointed to say the least. I checked and doublechecked in FAST and the 90-95 head bolt Part Number is 11056-V5000 for the quantity 18 size, and the number for the quantity 8 size is 11056-21V01. According to FAST, 11056-V5000 is fully interchangeable with Part Number 11056-V5004, which is the Part Number of the VG33E head bolt! Also, 11056-21V01 is fully interchangeable with 11056-21V02 also for the VG33E. There are a few interchangeability codes in FAST and the 100% compatible cod is ICA 2. These headbolt references are ICA 2 compatible. So in summary, the head bolts from the R50 VG33E are 100% compatible with the WD21 head bolts, according to Nissan FAST. Hope this helps someone.

If it is just the cable you need, there are some at 1991 Parking brake cable on Rock Auto. for less that $15

Sounds like electrical to me. Get yourself a multimeter and verify that the set button is actually making continuity, and if that is good, check the wires. Does the cruise light come on when you flip the ON switch? There should be a light for when the system is on, and then another light for when you have it set.

A friend of a friend in Japan did a tranny temp guage along with a whole bunch of other cool stuff on his terrano. Check it (japanese, try google translate or something): http://www.u-shonan.com/myterrano/Soup-up/chapter-11.htm

The only difference between and LE and an SE are the leather seats and the body trim packages. The SE is the base model of the LE so to speak. Everything that came on an SE could be had on the LE.

Green Mean OffRoad Machine... Now how?
Indigent replied to icemonkey's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Also, with the diesel, you will no longer be street legal in any US state. It is a violation of federal law to convert a gasoline based vehicle to diesel. I used to own a Terrano when I lived in Japan, and was strictly forbidden from bringing it back with me to the states because it had the TD27T in it. You *can* find them for around $3000 currently from JDM importers, though. The transmission was different mainly the bellhousing. As with anything, of course it is *possible*, but it is all about how much sacrifice you are willing to put into it. There was a guy floating around in NY state a while ago that put an RB26DETT into his pathfinder. People have put Chevy smallblocks into these things. If I could internally justify the $3000, I would have already done the Diesel swap. I really miss that engine (48+MPG), but it is what it is. Check this link for more info on the stupid EPA laws about diesel: http://www.epa.gov/compliance/resources/po...e/engswitch.pdf Good luck with whatever you decide. -
I am an idiot, I meant your Model number. It is found on the Plate in the engine bay on the passenger side. I am sorry for the confusion. PM that to me and I will give you the breakdown.
