Sounds like a caliper sticking to me. Double check the slides and be sure they are lubed well. If thats ok, the caliper piston may be sticking and its time for a rebuild or replacement. One side getting hotter than the other tells me the caliper isnt letting go, and thats why you have the oddball wear.

couple questions...pathy running odd

Blower motor resistor is probably cooked. There is a writeup in the garage section on how to clean the area as it can fail and catch fire. The sunroof, just start checking bolts and see if they are tight. Dont think thats to common. If it using more gas, when is the last time you tuned it up? This time of year we get summer blended gasoline and it hits your mileage. Make sure there is nothing obvious loose or disconnected under the hood. Check ECU codes! -
Yeah, it doesnt hurt to hit it with the ol' garden hose when washing your rig either.

That recall is this one... http://npora.ipbhost.com//index.php?showto...l+filler+recall It doesnt apply to his vehicle, but look around for any leaks. Did you top off the tank when you filled up? If you did it may leak out a little without you knowing. Its all pretty easy to inspect. Pull the left rear wheel and removed the cover on the back of the wheel well and inspect the hoses. Then lift up rear carpet on the right(may have to unbolt cargo hooks), removed bolts for cover and look at top of tank to see what you can find.

Changed many a rebuilt starter in Nissans and they just dont work. Had the same problem with alternators at one point, but that may have been a supplier. I tell people to buy the new one and they look at me like im insane. But then they would come back and have to pay me twice to repair the vehicle. Im trying to save you money in the begining people....

Lack of backpressure will not let the EGR system work properly. You may need to reinstall the cat or get a high flow unit.

$4+ a gallon - what's your personal solution
5523Pathfinder replied to Mr. Pickles's topic in General Forums
I bought my 93 hardbody back in September so I wouldnt have to commute in Big Homie. I get about 27mpg in a rig that has 173,000 mile on it. Though, I did have to customize a little bit.... -
That sucks man! But hey, glad your ok!

lock right experts help please
5523Pathfinder replied to dougdavis's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Did you get all the springs installed? Did you get the backlash correct? If the backlash is wrong it could create drag on the ring gear and keep tension on the locker. If you acclerate around corners, it will try to lock. So make sure you coast around a corner(no acclerating) and see if it clicks. -
Sounds like a lifter to me. Put your hand on the valve cover and see if you can feel it. Luckily, on the right side, its a piece of cake to replace them. The left side, not so much. If you think its coming from the timing belt, put your hand on top of the distributor and see if you can feel it when it makes the noise.

Yeah, Id do the whole thing for $300. Its up to you if you want to replace the manifolds. I reused mine and I havent had a problem. At the old dealer, we used to keep a few old ones and have them machined. Then when someone had them replaced, we would just put in the ones already machined and had theirs machined. No down time that way. But if you want headers later, I would just reuse them. PM me if you want to set something up
-
Ive done lots of mainfolds. The left side can be a little tougher than the right due to the EGR tube(it may get damaged if corroded). Still, its not that tough if you are mechanically inclined. Yes, drilling out the old studs can be a pain if you dont have the right stuff, but not impossible. Shoot, Id do them both for $300 if you want to drive down to Rochester, or maybe Fife, depending if the boss would let me.... Just buy all 12 studs, nuts and washers, the gaskets and we can knock her out!

There still may be code stored even though the light is not on. I would check for codes and then continue. You say it was being restored? Was the engine gone through? Maybe there are some vacuum lines misrouted, or something plugged in, in the wrong spot.
-
Sounds like you make have a vacuum leak somewhere. I would start by spraying some carb/choke spray around mating surfaces and rubber hoses. If nothing pops up, I would check for any codes set in the ECU(under your passenger seat-see how to's on how to check codes). There are a couple of different things that it may be.
-
That would be correct 88. Well, actually a Infiniti tech now, but I still have access to pretty much anything nissan 94 and newer. Plus I have access to AllData online. Glad I could help. Did you put some grease on the gears and give her a spin to see how and where the gears mesh? If you set it up correctly you should be fine reguardless.

The orange silicone you get at the dealer has worked great for just about every resealing job Ive ever done. The price is spendy though.

This recall is muched talked about. Just thought I would post up the quick details of the effected vehicles.... NTB07-078 VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN 1997-2001 PATHFINDER FUEL FILLER TUBE Campaign I.D. # R0705 and R0706 NHTSA# 07V-435 Applied Vehicles: 1997-2001 Pathfinder APPLIED VINS: 1997: JN8AR05(**)VW 183818 - 193946 1998: JN8AR05(**)WW 210101 - 288805 1999: JN8AR0(***)XW 287118 - 389993 2000: JN8AR07(**)YW 395001 - 449806 2001: JN8(*)R0(***)1W 500001 - 617275 Now remember, this is for U.S. vehicles only. I dont have axcess to Canada or the rest of the world. A last few details on the TSB says.... For vehicles identified by NNA records as registered in on of the "Non-Salt States", Nissan is advising owners of the following: 1. Their vehicle does not have to be repaird. However, at the owners request their Nissan dealer will inspect, and if necessary, replace the fuel filler tube assembly with a new one. 2. They should contact their dealer if they notice fuel leakage when filling the gas tank. 3. If their Pathfinder was previously registered in on of the Salt States, or it is driven there often during the winter months, they may bring their vehicle to their Nissan dealer to have the fuel filler tube inspected, and if necessary, replaced. The number of Nissan vehicles potentially affected is approximately 274,500.

Hey guys, I was surfing around and I found this. I imagine its not performance, but at least a bolt in replacement exhaust components. Click on the link to the site for more. The story is a little old, but I havent heard about anything like this. Story.... http://www.autocarepronews.com/default.asp...p;id=84349& Website.... http://www.ansaautomotive.com/index.html

I will say this.....All automobile makers have thier own issues. If you buy any vehicle, hopefully you spent the time researching it and knowing what you are getting into. Is Nissan going to buy back our rigs? Probably not. Is Honda going to buy back the vehicles that have distributors go out all the time? Probably not. How about all the Dodge products that have to have numerous transmission and engine issues, but still sell well? How you deal with your own vehicle is up to you, no one else. Oh, and I have a quick compairison for you all....... http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliabil...odel=Pathfinder VS http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliabil...p;model=4Runner Oh yeah, the toyota engine issues didnt go away with updated parts. I know lots of people who have replaced headgaskets over and over again. Just my 2 cents.

You can tap the seals in with, I think, a 34 or 36mm socket. What has also worked is fitting them in with a little assembly lube, then tapping them in lightly with a extension and hammer. Just tap them in until they are flush with the head. Dont push them as far back as they will go. They will end up leaking again. It sounds like you have just about everything. Remember you need a puller for the crank pulley after you remove the bolt.

My upgrades to my Pathy were figured out on a couple of trail rides with my borther and a few friends. I wanted to build it to go where they couldnt. For the most part, I succeded. Plus, its nice to have something out on the trail that is different. Oh yeah, I have proof...

Bummer dude. That sucks. At least everyone is ok.
