  1. Uh, wasn't the first pathinder the Bushmaster.... "A covered utility body style like that of the early Toyota 4Runner was also available as an aftermarket conversion by a company called Matrix3. This was available as a "dealer option" in the United States from 19841986 and was called the Bushmaster. In mid-1986 a factory-built version was introduced and was named Pathfinder. "

  5. Just cleaning the Air flow meter may not cure the problem, as when i have seen it, its not a dirty situation. Usually what i do is look at the MAF sensor output with the enigne off, at idle, and at 2000 rpm. Usually the dead giveaway is it will read near or over a volt with no air moving(spec is .5v or less). I also looked at the load precentage under heavy accleration and would see the numbers skyrocket. This is why i asked earlier about what information they gave you on how they came to the conclusion that both your cats were bad. They should be able to explain how they came to their diagnosis, thats what I do. This would be a perfect example of the failure not being the actual code. They need to properly diagnose it and no just break out the parts shotgun!
  6. You da Man!!!!!!! Well, the Birthday man anyway... Have a good one!
  7. 1984 Ford mustang Turbo GT. This is it the day I traded it in on my 300zx(also a 5 speed)..
  8. If you have both of those codes at the same time, there has to be a common failure. Its very rare to have two cats on different banks go at the same time. I have reparied many of these and I will tell you what i would do. I would inspect the air flow meter. I have seen where it reads too high in its signal range without setting a check engine light. Basically, its telling the computer it has a lot more air coming in than what actually is. This in turn is making the o2 sensors read that there is either too much or too little oxygen left over after the combustion burn. The p0420/p0430 are catalytic efficiency codes, not failure codes. My money is your cats are not bad, but your air flow meter is(or you have a vacuum/air leak).
  9. It should. Did the dealer not give you a printout of the codes or write them down for you?
  10. So your truck has 4 catalytic converters. You need to get the codes it set for it to be properly diagnosed. Here are a couple of pictures to show them.. #3 on both sides #2 on both sides Now, depending on the codes, it may or may not be a Cat issue. Did they tell you how the Cats failed? Are they broken? Are they just guessing? Yes, they can fail. But they can also be easily misdiagnosed. Ive seen Mass Air Flow meters cause issues, as well as just bad sensors. I dont think there is a ECM reprogramming for the 04's, but its been a while. I would get more info from them before you pull the trigger. Oh, the codes you get will let you know what side is the issue. The code will be follow by a B1S1(bank 1 sensor 1) identification code(there are several, thats just a example). Bank 1 on the V6 is always right bank.
  11. Ok, well that apparently took me too long to edit that post. Here is what it should be... I assume your Pathfinder is a 4.0l, with hill decent control(or what we americans call the Off Road Package). Here is a pic of the wiring diagram for the ABS system. The shop should check it for codes and see whats going on. I wonder if somehow they messed up something and the Steering angle sensor needs to be reset. That can be done with some nicer aftermarket scan tools or at a Nissan dealer. The system should not just keep the system locked up. If it fails, it should go into failsafe mode, and basically you have a vehicle with no ABS until its fixed. The other possibility is that there is a brake caliper locked up.
  12. I assume your Pathfinder is a 4.0l, with hill decent control(or what we americans call the Off Road Package). Here is a pic of the wiring diagram for the ABS system. I would suggest pulling the ABS fuses and see if you can drive it.
  13. You should also replace the pilot bushing. You need to inspect the flywheel for cracks. Any over a inch, the flywheel should be replaced, not just resurfaced. Usually what I do when im in there, is a new clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bushing and a rear main seal. Your going to want to clean the bellhousing of all the clutch dust and debris. Pop off the shift fork, clean and lube the pivot stud. Luckily on the R50, there are no torsion bars to drop, but yes, as B said, it is very heavy. So be careful!
  14. Did my best Nunya inpersonation with Big Homie. Dragged a 72 ford pickup around my yard so I can rip the carb off and install a points conversion kit.

  19. Some body cut the rear panhard bar? That couldnt of been easy! Or quiet! Anyway, the rear panhard bar centers the rear axle and keeps it from walking side to side. It would be very unwise to drive without one. I would love to see a pic of how it was cut.
  20. I fist posted in this thread that I normally dont work on these things, but times have changed. Luckily most i do is suspension work. Here is todays victim... Thats me standing next to it.
