As far as tightening the crank pulley I went to sears and got a strap wrench and put that on the back of the pulley and had a buddy hold it as tight as possible while I cranked the crank pulley as tight as I could get it. So far no problems and that was 5000 miles ago.

I havent heard of changing the crank shaft gear before but I guess it makes sense if you see any missing or broken teeth. I would definetely change the t-belt,water pump, thermostat and crank and cam seals if leaking also I would change the coolant bypass hose, It is a small hose back behind the cam gears.

SaKaNa where is that gear located? Is it by the VSS sensor down by the tranny? I have a problem with my speedo too. It seemed like every once in a while I would start up and leave and the speedo would not work but then like a mile or two down the road it would catch up. I was thinking it was the VSS but I started a new job and I am in the middle of nowhere TX for training and I had to drive into a place called the Ranch and it is like a 25 mile washboard bumpy dusty road. Well I figured out today that when I go over cattle guards slowly my speedo would quit working. then I pushed in the trip odometer later to clock mileage and again it quit working. I got a little pissed and banged on my dash and low and behold it started working again. This happened three more times and If I just hit the dash a couple of times it usually comes back to life. I have a 97 R50 do you guys think it is a loose conection at the cluster? Crap I just realized I totally thread jacked. So Sorry.

I'd like on but I am not going to spend 300 bucks on one.

Yeah that is way $$ Guess that is why they call it a "stealership". No offense Destro. Csutke, if you do have to take it into a repair shop I recommend Import Auto (not import auto body) They are a small shop specializing in imports. They are located on laporte take laporte west and about 1/2 mile before you hit overland they are on the left hand side of the road. They do all my work on both my pathy and the wifey's honda. They have always given me decent prices and are up-front with me (like calling me before they any work is done to approve. just a thought.

My Short Ram Air Intake Configuration (1996 Pathfinder)
zonianbrat replied to brerben's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I think it looks good. I did something similar but I used a K&N filter and I just left the hose unconnected. I tried plugging it off but the engine started to run a little rough so I just left it as-is. Then I made myself a redneck-enginered box to try to keep out some hot ambien air from the motor. -
What Should I Do To Lift My '97 Automatic Pathfinder?
zonianbrat replied to aduncan38's topic in The Garage
I am not sure whether 18"s will even work. -
I have not heard what people have to say about the weapon-R intake. I doubt it is going to make much difference in pickup. The 3.3l motors these pathies come with are simply dogs. While I agree letting the engine breath better will give you a little more pep, 188 bucks seems kinda $$. I bought a K&N cone filter and afro-engineered a small box to keep out some hot air and I did notice a tiny improvement in gas mileage (like .5 to 1mpg gain) and a tiny bit more pep on the skinny pedal. IMHO I would get a K&N then use the rest of your money for exhaust, together intake and exhaust will give you the most pep for your buck. Just my .02

There is a truck driving school across the street from where I work and this short fat guy(who we call cotton!!) has a older body style f-250 and it has way too much crap on it. but he has two sets of semi horns on his front bumper facing the pavement. And he uses them every time he backs up.

Sounds like some pretty cool stuff.

I am no expert but I do think your concern may be right about your back-pressure if you run two true duals, you will probably lose either your low-end or your high end torque (again I am no expert) I personally think if you ran a 2.5" dual pipes in and out of one muffler I believe you would get better sound and possibly a better amount of back pressure. It would be a different story if it was a v-8 because then I would say hell yeah go true duals. How big are those hushpowers? Fitting both of them and running duals might be an issue. Unless your not planning on doing any off-roading, then I would say run your set-up and just hang them low and have them dump out just after the mufflers. I have always liked seeing that set-up on old camaros etc but I have never seen it on a pathfinder. Good luck 98 and keep us updated.

You will be fine timing it by ear. Oh and where do I buy this "Return" key? My keyboard only has then "Enter" key. Can not even tell you the last time I used it while replying on this forum

First place you start is by kicking your friends a$$. And making him drive you everywhere.

Sounds like we have the same kinda problem.

Man this is why I like this site so much. Thank you all for the advice. I will be getting underneath her this weekend and tightening any loose bolts, shaking stuff, checking all the rubber boots and definetely checking any bushings I can see Then I will jack it up and check the tires by tring to move then around. I have noticed it seems to happen more often over little bumps and almost never on big bumps like speed bumps etc.. I hope to figure this out soon as I Just got a job offer today (sweeet!!) and I will need to drive to midland TX for training. Then I will have to use my truck to get to oil rig sites. Some oil rig sites will require 4x4......MUHahahahahah. If this job does pan out and the pay is what they say it is... my pathy will finally get some sweet upgrades.

Not to thread jack but alot of commercial trucks out here are going to propane. And I know a guy who repairs our forklift that has converted his old nissan pickup to propane. He said it was really easy and it is definetely cheaper but he has noticed a bit of a power loss.

I do plan on buying a thermostat kit 88. It is always funner to have someone else there drinking beer with ya though!! Got any idea how much one costs? guess I could just go online to Vato-zone and find out. Are the kit's generic to most vehicles or do I need a certain one?

More Cowbell!! That is classic I love that SNL skit. sorry this does not pertain to the topic in any way.

I am going to have to bribe someone with beer to come to my house and help me out with this. I hate wiriing things up, I always do something wrong or backwards, and when it comes to cooling my engine I want it done right. I have a taurus fan sitting in my garage.
-
I figured I should have done that this weekend when I was changing the oil. but my garage is cluttered and it started to rain on me when changing the oil in my driveway, so I was just looking ot get it done. Thanks for the advice I will check it out this weekend.

Okay before I get flamed I am at work with not alot of time to search. I did attempt a quick search with little results. So here it goes. My 97 R50 has 127,000miles on her and I have noticed on side to side bumps or when she rocks side to side I am getting a clunk sound from the front end. I have gotten underneath and tried to wiggle all the rods etc. and can not get any movement from anything. It is starting to concern me as the clunk has been getting worse over the last 6 months or so. Any ideas???

I have not used engine restore so I do not know if it works but I have used Marvel Mystery Oil and noticed it seemed to quiet the engine in my wifes honda a bit but who really knows.

You should be fine. As Alex said they underate their stuff to cover their asses. First thing you will notice is on the fender they post the max speed for their HD trailers at 45 mph. As far as stability just be sure to ratchet it down tight and chain down the rear axle and maybe put a couple of extra ratchet straps on the front tow loops and you should be fine. Just make sure to set out on your trip, get to highway speed and stop and check for loosness then if nothing is loose your all set.
