I think you do need to try to track down exactly what is happening. See if in fact one wheel is locking up. In my past experience when the sensor gets dirty it usually throws a code then turns off the abs system. I had this problem with my SS camaro. the front drivers side abs sensor had gotten some grit and grime in it and so when the system was doing it's diagnostic which i guess is all the time, it would throw a abs sensor code and automatically shut off the abs. I am not sure if that is what would happen in the pathy's but that is just my .02 good luck

How To- Change Drive Belts On A Vg33
zonianbrat replied to csutke's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Nice write-up. I made sure to change all mine when I had the radiator fan blade and clutch out while I did my timing belt change. That second bolt on the ps pump pulley closest to the frame horns is still a pain in the bodoooky -
New Steering Wheel - What Do You Think
zonianbrat replied to FUELER's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Looks good with your interior. I am also anal about keeping my truck clean when in town. but with my new job I am out in areas with nothing but ohv dirty unkept roads so my truck is caked in mud right now. Sweet thing is it has been raining the last couple of days so I have been having fun in my off-time but no camera so not pics. -
What sensors did you disconnect? Are your drive belts on? I think you need to be a bit descriptive about what "state" your engine is at this point.

I stand corrected I was talking about the other much smaller hoses. -
My Short Ram Air Intake Configuration (1996 Pathfinder)
zonianbrat replied to brerben's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
So what exactly do these hoses do? If it is in fact the same two hosees I am thinking of then when I got my K&N intake I simply tucked them on the side of the fender not capped or anything. I have had no ill effects yet. -
I voted for a 5" lift but I have an R50 and I know the hurdles that have to be overcome to do so but until I knew more about long-travel IFS for an R50 and saw some test results then I would just stick with a lift. Good luck bluese89

Well maybe you got some really crappy stuff and maybe wal-mart has gotten some better stuff since you tinted your windows. I know that my buddies dodge actually still looks really good. I ride dirtbikes with the guy and he pulls our bikes a good bit of the time and 3 years on his dodge and it still looks great. And I know he only uses a special tinted glass cleaner to clean his windows. I know this because he is really anal about his truck. If he gets any dirt or mud on it when we go ridin he washes it right after we get back and he unloads his bike. But ya never know maybe he just got lucky with his tint...................

I would recomend getting it done professionally too. I did the back window in my company-leased chevy pickup andit was a biatch. But I know someone who used to do it professionally and he did his Dodge ram with the wal-mart brand and it has been three years and it has not bubbled or turned purple. If it bubbles it is the installers fault or it is just many years old and seen too much sun and abuse. And there is only one way that stuff turns purple and it says it on the packaging. DO NOT USE AMONIA based cleaners. Windex has amonia. I am not posting this simply to defend wal-mart brand as I prefer 3M as it is just a better product. But I hate it when people say it turns purple when more than likely it is their own fault.

I heard a report on the radio about kids using their DS's to access the internet for porn.. just my .02

Ok that changes alot knowing it is probably the stock fan clutch. Those fan clutches are heavy adn when they kick on they take quite a bit of power to turn them hence your power loss. These engines are small anyway you have the 3.0 so you not starting with too much power anyway then you take a 95 degree day and run AC.. need I say more. If it does not sound like an airplane engine all the time and you can tell when it is turning on and off then it sounds like it is still working so I am not sure what the problem could be

Thanks Dank!! Hey not to thread jack but Dank if your a DJ you got any cd's or what? I think I chatted with you one time about tiesto or something (he is my fav)

I gotta ask what... size trailer was your buddy trying to pull? I dont believe you should pull what the manufacture says you can pull. I believe it is like 5000lbs. unless it is around town short distance with no hills. But I pull atv trailers and my boat trailer up in the mountains easily while using 87 octane. These trucks have alot of torque for a little motor but 5000 lbs is just too much and I think your asking to screw up a tranny or something else.

Yeah it sucks that nobody would come through including myself. I had full intentions on getting the lift and still do want one. I got my wife pregnant instead and have a beautiful 2 yr old. So my priorities changed quite a bit. I just started a new job that should pay pretty well so I was getting excited thinking that it was finally time get some sliders, lift and bumpers.....well I found out 3 days ago that my wife is pregnant again! So we will see if I can still squeeze soem of this stuff in.

That is kinda harsh.

Well if your going to replace the pistons shoot a PM to AK9849cy (hope he doesnt mind me referring him) I know he has rebuilt that engine in his truck and I believe he put in pistons that were non-interference. Anyway I am sure he could give you some tips on what to do the guy has dome some amazing things to his pathfinder. Good luck. P.S. Slick you did an amazing job with that motor looks sweet

Lag In Gear Takeup From Standing Start
zonianbrat replied to NZTERRANO's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Yeah I am lost too -
I am not saying you necissarily need new rings but by the looks of the cylinder walls, you gotta think what the rings are supposed to do. besides you have the engine torn down this far already. What if you eventually need the engine then put it in only to find out your compression sucks. Just my .02
-
I find it kinda weird that you feel that your losing so much power with it being a electric fan.
-
And if you are walling it off to transport something and not for subs then I would recommend a pickup truck.
-
I thought he was removing the back seats projekz.
-
I'm no mechanic, but would say you need some new pistons rings and have those cylinders cleaned out or bored out. Then maybe have the heads grinded to make sure they are "true and straight" and to get all that gasket material off. Good luck
-
Try the twist off method for sure then if that does not work you can cut if off by loosening the clamp, sliding it back then take a sharp razor and cut along the hose starting where it connects to the radiator as your cutting you can twist and eventually it will come off. I would recommend replacing all the hoses and the belts anywayif your going to be putting in a new engine

Nice plans so far though!!

Well you will have to cross that bridge when and if it happens. My advice to you is to do a search on this forum and get all the information and write-ups that you can on the t-belt job. Then GEt all the tools you are going to need (dont forget the 27mm socket and breaker bar). Next just remember where everything goes like all the screws holding the timing belt covers in place as some are different sizes. While your dong the job you will want to take out the radiator for extra room so you might as well flush it out and clean it real good. You are also going to be taking off all the belts too so you might as well change those unless you have already done that recently. I did the job on my 97 R50 and it was not too bad. Just be careful not to move the cam sprockets once the belt is off or you will have to re-time it. Oh and one more thing you are probably going to want to change your timing belt tensioner while your in there. Good luck and remember this forum is always here to answer questions.
