I'm with Grim, when I finally buy another vehicle it will be bigger and pretty new. atleast the newer pickups are getting decent mileage. Atleast about as good as my pathfinder is if driven easy.

Gas = necassary evil! I would like to look into bio diesel. I like chemistry and think it would be really cool to make your own bio diesel. Unfortuantely I lack the time and $ to invest in learning, converting a diesel vehicle and buying the equipment needed. Before too long companies and resturaunts will start charging an arm and a leg for their used cooking oil!

What kind of wear and cracks are we talking about here? I just ask this because a certain kind and amount of cracking is acceptable on drive belts. From the explanation above it does maybe sound like you got crappy belts, but I just figured I would ask. My drive belts are from Nissan and have 22,000 miles on them yet they already have minor usual type of cracking. That is certainly not to say it is not a good idea to go ahead and switch over to those gatorbacks. I just wanted to put in my .02

Tape to draw it out? News to me. I too have had and alot of splinter both metal and wood in my hands and the best way is to cut it out. I have become really good at it. The raking method works if it is just under the skin, the deep ones you have to cut into the meat a bit. If it is really deep and you plan on cutting it out just put an ice cube on it for like 5 minutes before you start cutting.

Gotta start somewhere I guess. Our national debt is ridiculous and we will probably never get out of it. I ofcourse do not know the whole story but this dam war we are in is costing billions, our space program costs billions, our foriegn aid is declining but still costs a bundle. How can we possibly stop this in these digital times where technology is growing by leaps and bounds. In order for us to stay the superpower that we are we have to continue to personify ourselves as the best. Which in turn will keep costing us $$

For the $ your going to pay for either I would say go with what Jittermonkey says and head to landcruisers. Nice on road, tons of room and still extremely capable off-road. Im my honest opinion the commander and 4-runner are made for soccer moms but still have some off-road capability. The Landcruiser I beleive to be more of a expedition vehicle with soccer mom capability

I see validity in some of your points, especially the ones about the oil companies. Yet I work for them. One reason being I know the oil industry will not be affected very much by the upcoming recession. As far as what you bolded in my quote. I did not say I could not afford those things. Simply that I was going to use part of my stimulus check towards them. Along with alot of other things. I took my check and put half in savings and put the other half into the checking acct. We have to buy diapers alot so I was implying that since I put half in there I am sure at some point some of that will go to buy diapers,wipes,milk,toys, etc. Sorry if it came off sounding like I could not afford these things. It was not my intention. I'm also sorry to hear about your view on the population. Because it is not going to stop but only get worse. China and India are re-producing at an exponential rate so what do we do? Population Control? Limit how many kids a household can have? Kinda makes the whole idea of Aids being invented for population control. I still dont believe it though.

Did I say I deserve more? Nope. I never asked for more on my stimulus check. It is just a bonus that I am not going to turn down. I can afford to buy everything my family needs and more. I bust my ass so that my wife can stay home with my children. There is no need to be so negative about society as a whole and thinking the children of the future are a burden. Look up this topic when you have kids before judging someone who does. I too always told myself that I would wait until I am financially ahead before I had kids. That's pointless, I did not want to have kids when I was 35 +. I wanted them young so we could grow as a family. Deciding to go ahead and have kids early gave me even more motivation to get a job that I can support my family with. I dont think it's too harsh, it's simply your opinion Grim. Nothing wrong with that but don't judge me.

I see you point completely. And yes this "stimulus" idea may be completely idiotic simply because I'd be willing to say less than half will actually stimulate the economy. I believe this idea was kind of a last hope to do something for the economy before we get into a serious depression. In case people have not noticed it is not working. The value of the dollar has gone to crap. We are just starting to see the effects. Food, Gas on normal everyday goods are going up in price. The housing market is taking a serious hit in ALOT of places. I do appreciate you explaining the "breeder" comment and I am happy to say I nor my family fit that criteria at all.

Well I am a "breeder" I guess, and yes I claimed one of my kids (other was just born in the beginning of April) on my tax return. But the amount that I got back does not nearly cover everything you have to buy for kids. Therefore this stimulus check is partly going to diapers, wipes, milk, food. Now think of it from the governments standpoint. They want you to use the stimulus check to stimulate the American Economy (which is in serious turmoil right now) So by giving people with kids more then they think that it will be put to use by buying american made products for the kids. While good in theory, most people will not use the money for this purpose anyway. Alot of people will buy things that will stimulate the economy in China, Tawain etc.

Assuming the knock sensor hasnt just died. Then all it does is detect of the engine is knocking. You said you were coming home from camping. Was the campsite at a higher altitude? Did you use a low octane fuel before going up. I just ask this incase you put in 87 and went to a high altitude and it messed with the computer and threw the knock sensor code out. I would try disconnecting it to see if it resets the codes, if it comes back on then try running codes again.

I dont think the mounts to the lower control arm are usually painted the body color. It may have been painted after a ding or something. Ride is lookin sweet Isaac.

I once talked to someone who did the conversion on a small nissan pickup and he said it was not very hard but he lost atleast 10% of his power. But was getting better gas mileage.

Sucks to hear about your ride being keyed. My ex girlfriend and her new boyfriend keyed my camaro like a month after we broke up (I knew it was her cause we saw each other at halloween party. I accused her but since I did not catch her in the act nothing could be done about it. It really sucks. whats worse is her boyfriend jumped me and beat me up pretty good like a month later. we fought again later and I got even but that's another story. I dont personally like leases because of mileage restrictions. But if you got the money for it then go for it. My brother and his wife own their Acura MDX for personal traveling etc and he leases a car continually which has worked out well for him. He likes it because everytime his lease runs out he gets a new ride. But in all fairness he has alot of money.

So I looked today and it is the axle shaft. The shaft itself goes into a coupler thingy and on the back side of it is where it is leaking. I will find a blown up pic later but now i am off to bed

I'll try to get under it soon to determine exactly what it is. Axle shaft does sound good too. As long as it doesnt get worse I wont worry about it. I will however try the stop leak if it is the steering rack.

yeah I think it is the steering rack. I just found it the day I was coming back to work and snapped a couple of pics and that is it. Havent had time to really get under there to research anything

Took these pics while I was home. I just discovered the leak. It is not that bad of a leak yet. Maybe a drip or two a day but I still dont want it to get any worse. Anybody know what this seal is and how hard it is to fix. The pics are under the front diff passenger side. Thanks for any advice/information
