ha that's funny the guy in the pathfinder is on this forum as 87pathy. His tires are 36" not 53" and yes that is one bad-arse rig he drives. And just a friendly piece of advice, if you think your truck handles like a sportscar and "likes" it you might watch yourself. These trucks can lean alot before they tip but it only takes that one extra degree and over you go. Try driving a sports car with suspension mods/tires and good weight distribution and then drive your pathy and you will see these trucks are nothing like sports cars, better in most instances. I had a fast sports car and I do miss it.

A 1990 with only 143,000 should not necassarilly need a engine rebuild kit just yet if it runs ok and does not blow smoke out constantly or run like sh!t. If your mechanic says it runs tight then I would focus on fixing the little things like your valve gasket leak, gas tank for sure, muffler for inspection purposes. Then I would mainly focus on the fluids all being changed, a good tune up with spark plugs, wires etc. Oh and mainly dont forget about the timing belt if it has not been replaced have it replaced asap seriously, asap. If that is the original and it is 17 yrs old then it might go out on you....wait a minute did a 1990 have a chain instead of a belt? I do not even know. Look into it though sounds like a nice truck keep us updated on it and show us some pics.

If your just painting them I would first use a heavy duty wheel cleaner with water a couple of times making sure to scrub and get all the nooks and crannies. Then I would scuff the paint up real good, then you might want to wipe them down a couple of times with a heavy solvent like Acetone to remove any grease that might have been left behind. Then paint.

Ok I am going to be ordering the tire chains I linked up above for the rear tires. I am also thinking of ordering a set of these emergency "strap on" ha ha chains, would they work on the front? I know I can not use regular chains up front due to clearance issues of the strut and spring but these look kinda low profile compared to the chains. what do you guys think? I am personally going to go and measure between the tire and spring myself with my 31x10.50' BFG's but I will not be able to for a little while as I am working and my truck is parked far far away at the moment. http://tirechain.com/emergency_strap_on-suv-lighttruck.htm

Have you checked fuel delivery? Fuel filter, Fuel pump?

I thought that might be my problem (bent wheel) as 3 years ago I hit black ice then slid for about 100 ft before going off road sideways, then my tire blew out and the rim dug in and sent the truck over on it's side where I slid for another 20 ft or so. Yeah tons of fun. Anyway the rim that dug in was bent and replaced but this shimmy has only started in the last 2-3 months when I have been doing alot of highway driving.

I bought a new clear cluster plastic thingy that is clear blue. Looks freakin sweet I bought it off of 02silverpathy. I never changed the bulbs and at night it is almost too brite. you can see all the internals on the in it too and behind the clear blue it is white so it looks sweet at night. I posted some pics somewhere on here try a search. I have no camera out here on teh rig so I cant snap any pics.

Wow 240K on a 97? I thought I was doing pretty good at 134,000 miles. And I have been to TX three times New mexico then upper Wyoming in the last 4 months.

Yeah let 90Seven buy yours, get another one built with a hitch in it then I will buy that one then you get another one......J/K I really do want something like that though and 600 bucks is reasonable for sure. I sure do want one.

I have to order up some chains since my job requires me to go to some really remote locations following these oil rigs around. On some rigs around Labarge Wy Chevron told me they are mandatory if you want to make it to the site. So I shopped a bit and found these, I have only used tire chains once on my old craptastic Ford flatbed at one of my old jobs. So i need to be schooled real quick as I want to order soon so they will be at my house next time I go home. Any advice is appreciated. I should add that they would be mostly off-road during winter. Usually we drive up to some county road then treck off the beaten path for anywhere from 2-25 miles. http://www.tirechain.com/VBAR.htm

I posted almost the exact same problem about a month ago. Mine is a 97 that shimmies between 60 and 70. When i was home I had my tires balanced and the problem is still there so this time when i get to go home I am takin it to the shop and have them take a look and probably going to have some front end work done.

What are these and will they damage my truck?
zonianbrat replied to FogDucker's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Probably a good thing you did not take it wheelin or one of those might have shot out then you would wonder why your truck is not level. On a side not that is a good looking R50! I love the black trim over the chrome that is what I got. Although I have no flares. -
Yeah there is the problem I need my truck as I am following this oil rig around Wyoming for now. But ya never know it could all change and if it does I am buying one. i need a 2" reviever hitch in it though. How much did that cost ya if you dont mind me asking?

Sounds like a great idea, I wish i could be more involved but I have no camera outhere otherwise I could get some sweet shots of the pathy and the sunset (those are my favorite) but oh well

Not to thread jack but Mikeysentra, I remember your truck has almost the same mileage as mine and is the same year, I am running 31x10.50's bfg at's on my stock steelies and I have no rubbing whatsoever even at full lock. Wonder why that is? Oh and I am the stock suspension too. Atleast I think I am... maybe some time you could measure from the ground up to top of your fender for me...

I agree with what everybody here has said. I check the weight of the car and trailer if it is going to be over 3500 dont go very far with it. I pulled a tandem axle dump trailor with building supplies in it, we estimated the weight to be around 4300-4600lbs total give or take a bit!! I was only going about 10 miles down the road. I was not bad since it was a tandem axle the weight got distributed well and the tongue weight was reasonable so the pathy was not sitting quite on her rear tires. She has the power to pull it but she did not like the hills. All in all no big deal. And I second the notion NO OVERDRIVE!

Holy freakin crap!! I use a dual screen setup at work and your pic just filled up both screens and I still did not get the whole truck in the pic!!
-
Sweet I'll be checking out tirechains.com soon. I need to go ahead and order a set for the rear.

I too was wondering if I could run chains on all four wheels or just the rears. This answers my question. Does anybody know of a good place to get tire chains for a decent $. I tried one place and they said they had to order them and that it would be real expensive.

Well here is an update. I finally made it home for a couple of days and decided I needed to take it to Sam's club since I bought the tires there and they balance and rotate it for free. Well while they had it jacked up I checked the tires side to side and up and down. The passenger front tire has some side to side play so maybe it is time for some TRe's. Not much if any up and down play so that is good. But I looked at the truck before I took it in and my tires are sitting like this \ / so I am out of alignment too. The guy at Sam's club says my whole shaking out of alignment problem is because I am running 31x10.50's and that is way too big of a tire for the truck. I blew that off, then he was like " your rear tires did not move side to side or up and down at alll. Gee thanks tard. So I got them balanced and it has not really helped the situation much. So next time I am in town I am taking it in for alignment and assesment of tie rod ends, ball joints, and bearings.
