  1. yep battery was the problem...after being gone for 10 days..she fired right up tonight so i think i removed all the electrical deamons that were hacked into the factory harness that were killing the battery... heres the pix that the guy sent me...i havent had time to get any of it...i've pulled the carrier off and hope to get the bondo off and get some sheetmetal work done on it over hte next few weeks but i know the gf will probably hit something with it so we're not that worried about the body...i was mainly concerned about mechanically sound...not bad for $1500 and $300 in parts Shady suspension lift i have to remove:
  2. I smiled a lot of this post....r u sure its coolant its burning? I knew a Guy that had an 88 that was fogging the neighborhood with white smoke...it wound up being the brake booster filled up with brake fluid and was pulling into the intake via the brake booster hose...changed master cylinder and it was all fixed... Loss of coolant could be from the water pump and being overlooked. If that cylinder was full of water orignially I believe you would have hydrolock and it'd be more severe than what u have...with a broken rocker arm I would replace it and the spring...my buddy broke a spring and bent a pushrod and broke a valve guide on his Pontiac and instead of letting me pull the head press out the guideand press in the new one he paid someone 2k to give him the same diagnosis and do the same work
  3. Got itplated and insured and drove her home before I left on vacation...the hokey suspension lift is coming off and putting a 3" bl on soon...gf wants to keep the 33's on
  4. I hate ice...show and slush under 6" is fine with me...12" on the side of a cliff and a bush saves you is not so fun while wheeling...driving cross cccounty with jackass CA driver's putting themselves in ditches every 1000 feet...ohh yea and that fl driver that passed me when I was 90° to the lane BC I was seeing how slick the highway was getting they got the finger lol...its a good thing I hadn't lost control like most of the folks on the Rodriguez that day ... I hate snow driving in a fwd but rwd is a lot of fun
  5. I believe I saw dims called out in the fsm for that hole but maybe not...its hard to woller it out and it needs to be larger to allow the bushing assembly to move with the suspension
  6. Wheel it and let me know how it holds up...I've got to grind my seats off and need to weld up some races BC I'm still eating thru the bushings left and right...right now its my weld splatter making them crack
  7. Front and rear seals suck...the rear can be done without dropping the pan I think the front u have to drop the pan which is really involved
  8. Well we got it all back together and she wont fire...I'm hoping BC of the deader that @!*% battery in it that wont hold a charge....with a jump it barely turns over and the spark off the coil is orange not blue or white so I'm hoping a new battery willgive us a running truck BC if not I'm at a loss
  9. Well we got it...heres how we left her last night after about 3 hrs of work and 2 hours of BSing it was midnight and couldnt crank up the air compressor to blow the inches of mud covering the spark plugs... We had a hellatious tow...it took 4 hours to go 45 miles...learned AAA will not tow a vehicle without valid plates on it and after the guy i bought it from's uncle hooked up we came onto the onramp and heard a tire blow out...it was on the inside and couldnt really check it...20 miles later the tire separated b/c it ate through both sidewalls...drove at like 10mph on the shoulder of the road for 2 miles...they had no spare...i drove off and forgot my toolbox on my tailgate and dumped it in the middle of hte highway...think i picked up all of them but don't know for sure yet...we were at the exit i work off of and i knew of a repair shop...they didn't have any tires small enough only trailer and big rig tires...we offloaded the pathy and i disconnected the rear drive shaft and they drug it the last 20 miles... wasn't bad guy was appologetic and was only charging me $1.25/mile...he asked for $80 and I gave him $100 b/c he could have dropped me in the gas station parking lot and said sorry man i gotta get the truck back ot the yard but he wasn't giving up anywho...here's where we left it:
  10. Me too...i chose to not fight with CARB and wait until someone pulled me over and told me i couldn't keep my out of state plates...
  11. Hmmm I thought CARB allows engine swaps as long as that engine was available in that chassis throughout its life...now i've never seen a SC 87-95 stock but its still a VG series engine and say its a VG30E or I did nissan ever put this SC on a 3.0L in a VG30 engine? and if so is the engine badged different? an example is the VG30DETT... Plus you can always keep your stock parts and pass smog...a SC install like this should take what 4-6 hrs? you smog once every 2 years whats 8-12 hrs every 2 years of wrenching? I knew a guy who swapped heads on a mustang out there just to pass smog and as soon as he got home he swapped it right back over or do what i did and plate it in a different state be a "seasonal or contract" worker or find a smog shop that will "overlook" the modifications...I talked to a guy who would do it down in LA county but I lived in Kern so that was no good for me CARB is such a bitch...we're doing CARB certification on the electric vehicle that i was on the design team for...it's 0 emissions....well if you don't count all the coal burned to charge it up but I guess most of CA is powered off the hoover dam and maybe some wind farms and maybe some solar farms but they probably sell all of that "free energy" to AZ and NV but yea 0 emissions and one charge is good for 100ish miles and you could probably run your house off of it for 3 days green ain't always so green I chuckled tonight when me and the gf got in my pathy (muffler is laying in the back b/c i pinched the pipe out of the cat on a rock..."your exhaust isnt legal"...my response was welcome to SC baby ...
  12. a 33 should be able to fit if you air it down...maybe...
  13. still on another month delay on mine but here was a quick mock up...I just got the steel last weekend and have been tied up with the gf for her Bday this weekend and will be working a lot next weekend...then we go to HI for 10 days but it'll be done hopefully before Xmas This is a trail gear bumper i'm going to make work on my pathy:
  14. I don't expect him to reduce the price of hte truck for the cooler...it is in my list of parts tho...I only drove it about 1/4 of a mile b/c of the master cylinder and I don't like not having brakes in an auto...a manual isnt ideal but is alright...auto is a no go all around She wants a car but I told her i would feel safe with her in the pathy and i know how to fix it so she didnt argue...she didnt even care about all the sheetmetal damage which kinda turned me off but its mechanically sound...she's really worried about the smell and color of the trans fluid since she used to be a lube tech...it just hasnt been changed in a long time and its still clear but dark... I believe he won't accept my offer but that's alright...there are other trucks out there that we can find for her Here's the other gift she got last night (and got me some new boots as well):
  15. I am looking at a 95 pathfinder to get my GF for her birthday...we went and looked at it yesterday and its in rough but good condition...rough is its banged up on both fenders and both passenger side doors have dents on the roof side the rear has been hit where the tire carrier is and is dented up pretty good but someone put about 1/2" of bondo back there so the tire carrier would come off and i'd be doing some body work just b/c i care (the gf isn't b/c she said she'd probably back into a light pole or something anyways) the inside is clean and the engine runs smooth even though its been missing an airfilter for god knows how long but the intake didn't look any worse than mine does...it has a small exhaust leak...no frame rust...autotragic seems to shift good but i don't really know b/c i've never had an auto besides my camry and hated it but it doesnt slip i do know that much) truck has 207k miles on it...right now it needs a battery, water pump, air filter, oil change, transmission fluid change, valve cover gaskets, master cylinder, exhaust leak (smallest one i've seen on a pathy at the manifold but its on the driver side) so here's what i have to do and need time on the books for it so I can give him an estimate of what it will cost him to take it to a mechanic and what the time would be if i did the work 1. Timing belt (including cam seals, thermostat, and water pump) 2. Valve cover gaskets 3. master cylinder and brake bleeding 4. exhaust stud replacement so far I have $390 worth of parts that it needs to be replaced without the front windshield (makes it about $590) plus I have to find 31's to put on it and get the shady ass coil spring lift off the back of it (it's got crackable spacers in it) Any prices, times and references would be much helpful
  16. tapers are different between different years (not sure which ones they are)...i found this out b/c all my TRE spares are 87 and I have 95 TRE's on the truck...one problem i have had in the past is that the ball joint on the TRE will spin...typically i put a pry bar in and give it some pressure so the nut will torque down and hten i can torque it down...i typically don't have the problem with brand new TRE's but used or ones that were pre greased would have more freedom and less friction to hold the ball against the socket
  17. my buddy in his rubicon learned this last weekend...luckly he stopped about 1/2" from busting out his rear window...needless to say he couldn't get out check his position so I had to find a good winch angle and put 4x4's under his left tires to change the "roll" of the truck to keep him from getting the limb all the way down the side of his truck since he tried to back out and got back past the root...about 20 mins and I had him out and this was his first "oh @!*%" moment offroading... this is why i like the ARB b/c you can lock and unlock...i don't use it nearly as much as i thought i would...half the time i forget to lock it until i get stuck with free spin on all 4 corners
  18. i was about 75 miles shy of the end of my "break-in" period and shied away from the obstacle after i started to smell the clutch...everyone else wanted me to finish but i don't want to be in the tranny anytime soon unless i'm pulling the Tcase apart for gears but yes there were 3 times that i avoided hard accelerations b/c people were doing something stupid so i just granmaw'd it past'em
  19. I never said for a WD21 specifically just stated that they are out there and if you SAS it you can run E-lockers from a D44
  20. so far so good...and it can be slipped if you need to...had a good weekend wheeling
  21. you can install lockers that allow you to select when your locked and open...I have an ARB which runs off of pneumatics to lock...i have seen mechanical electric and i'm sure someone does a hydraulic
  22. so far i like it...still not as stiff as i want it but it is grabby but i think she'll be able to be slipped...we shall see after the break in...but it looks promising...after I get to do some beating on it we'll see what i have to say
  23. Good info koveman....yes I do have a thrust block and arb instructs you to install the one they provided if the open carrier had one...I will have to look elsewhere for parts if that's the way they r going to do parts now
  24. BC I have an arb locker in my truck...well we pulled it and there was some &^%*ing douche running the counter and wanted to charge me for rotors calipers hubs shafts pads instead of the assembly so when I told him to go fskc himself he asked me to throw them in a scrap bin he got what he asked for...I wasn't paying close to $200 for rear disks...another Guy dumped a full axle BC of the same Guy...shoulda been $60 for the parts but fskc that guy I got a tail light and 2 rear trailing arms for $40 so back to putting the tuck back together
