What repairs have you had to do?
unccpathfinder replied to shooter's topic in 86.5-89 WD21 Pathfinders
My list of repairs/upgrades/mods is pretty long but the major ones were: ~rebuild top end after breaking a timing belt (i was 18 and didnt know any better) ~several clutches between my 2 trucks ~some body work when I was 16 where my dad plowed into my truck one morning after a fight with my mom included new grill bumper corners and pulling the front end back straight ~couple of engine swaps All of which were neglect on the users side...or upgrades...I've stripped 2 pathfinders and cut them up into tiny pieces and still have 25-50% of the original one I bought over 10 years ago -
NAPA can probably make one for $10-$15
-
had that happen...hope you got a modine...all aluminum...
-
yea i've looked there...i know chicago electric is usually the brand that harbor freight carries but I didnt know if its the exact same as what they carry now road shock or if they switched to a new product and kept the same reviews b/c i'd hate to go buy something new that's crap that replaced something that people have rated good
-
Question... is the Road Shock the same as the chicago electric?

Read my posts about my 95 to 87 swap to get an idea of what I had to do for the speedo and ecu to work
-
Yea they will be fine...I was actually able to use the spline insert from the regular in the premium...a good thing also to look into is the softer spline inserts so the hub or Cv or diff doesn't explode if you load it up...steeevo select them on ruggedrocksoffroad ...I shattered a premium hub in CA
-
check out some posts by.....statutoryape on a swap like this but yes any WD21 body will swap to another WD21 frame
-
be weary of Premium vs regular...i got some old old warn hubs from a guy off of a D21 and the housings were different so my parts from my shattered hub didn't innerchange but luckly I was able to make 2 working ones out of the 4 i had

2wd D21...same mtg as altima just a longer Snout...if you change out the water pump to something else you have to change out the lower timing cover as well...the mountings shouldnt differ and I'm not sure y Nissan went with the different pump/timing cover for the 2wd and 4wd

I could use a soli kid that is normally closed and will be energized when I flip the switch which is most likely when the truck is on...then no battery Parasidic when the truck is parked...only issues with normally closed is if I loose power and then the state of the brakes can't cwhange....but that's like a big rig loosing his air and the brakes without air engage...

Replace Mechanical Power Steering Pump
unccpathfinder replied to unccpathfinder's topic in General Forums
you're looking at the wrong end for the HP savings...7HP under full load if running a electric pump and it only add's 1-2 hp to the alty draw then you've gained 5 hp...I think I could do the whole swap for under $300 for new hoses and the pump I'm shooting to get everything off the crank except for an alty or 2 -
I've been looking at a bunch of Electric vehicle components and I've been thinking of ways to reduce engine drag in the nissan so I've come across several different steering pumps that run off of 12V and pull a max of 40A under max load condition and virtually none while moving (if you can use your VSS to put the pump to sleep) so 1...Does anyone know where or has a performance curve of the Nissan Alt vs HP Used 2 does anyone know HP draw from the power steering pump or a performance curve for it as well? 3. anyone know the max load on the stock nissan electrical system (i'm guessing I could add up all of my fuses and say that is the max load i could possibly have which I know is probably 20% or so lower than that) these are both things I Doubt anyone would have unless you were with nissan unless someone has done a lot of dyno testing Has anyone done hydro steering on an IFS? the thought behind this is to rid myself of wearing out steering components besides UBJ's and LBJ's..a hydro ram steering system could also be swapped over if I ever SAS

I'm really worried about snagging the cables...i've already done it twice...and I have a feeling i'm going to be pulling the axle a couple more times with my arb and the disks make it a lot easier...I dont have to bleed the brakes...Theres 2 you pull it lots close to me...i'll keep an eye out if i can
-
Alright...heres my problem...I wheel my rig more than I drive it on a daily basis now...one of my big problems is that while offroad even with park brake cables adjusted to full loose they grab the drums...basically when i'm parked flat it doesn't engage at all...my thought since I had to pull my locker again the other night was to convert to rear disks and remove the parking brake all together and install some line locks as my park brake... Also if anyone has info on converting the rear axle to disk brakes it'd be appreciated...I think I just need the shafts and calipers along with their mounting brackets for the calipers...I think I will have to keep the drums in place but just remove the shoes and internals

What's the problem with Nistune?
-
Interesting...that was an 86 engine so I can't say I looked at anything pre86
-
hmm you should have been able to unbolt the pathfinder motor mounts and bolt them straight to this block and then reinstall it in the pathy....I was able to do that on the maxima/altima engine...I believe all the VG engine blocks are the same as far as threaded bosses and mounting but depending on application they use different ones Maxima Engine: Here's a pic of the engine almost ready to go in the pathy (as TBI): I thought I actually had the bracket mountings but i can't find those
-
Heres a tip when i started off with my swap of the maxima engine...some parts are different between a 4wd and 2wd like water pump and some other things so it may be possible to get 2wd parts to work out ofr you...good luck and hope you get it all worked out

THanks Cuong

Yea...makes sense...I'm expecting to have to hack and weld but want to get something close....I donno what's up with that quote from another thread

Thats y I like the stinger...and I need a place for a winch and some radiator protection...tg has a testimonial where a Guy rolled his truck and the stinger held up really well which is a bonus
