  1. U can always check out my posts...running a 95 truck in my 87 body...lots of stuff innerchanges...
  2. i have problems periodically with my turn signals corroding...once i clean them out good and clean the bulbs up good the problem goes away for a while but ultimately comes back and i always know how to fix it when it happens
  3. i swapped from the I beams to the tubular and htey're the same length...my fear was that the I beams are cast and I was afraid they would fracture instead of bend and i'd prefer a bend than a break bc with a bend you're not rendered helpless...not sure what it would take to fracture one but it was the justification that i had
  4. Not really sure...I should be puling my autohubs tomorrow and can check
  5. Mod could you please lock this thread? for instructions and pix: http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=27012 THanks
  6. Alright so here's the skinny on this one...I shattered a hub on my truck in CA and kept all the pieces...I bought some from a guy who sold me the wrong set he sold me a 27 spline set and I needed a 28 spline...(Don't get confused about the details of my truck b/c it is an 87 truck but i need the 28 spline hubs since my truck is a 95 2 door) So being the engineer I had a feeling that everything was the same in these hubs except for the spline center...long story short that's a true statement. I didn't read and I thought I saw a spring washer but didnt mess with it...I took the assumption it would just press out...bad idea I broke the casting and then verified I needed to pull the spring washer...so lesson # 1 DON'T TRY TO PRESS OUT THE SPLINED GEAR 28 spline vs 27 spline...I cant even remember which was which: Same story: Don't press it out: Step 1: remove cap Step 2: remove spring retainer washer and the gear will then come free of the bushing be sure not to loose the flat washer on the inside of the housing but its probably stuck to the gear or housing with grease so be sure not to double them up when you reassemble. Step 3: clean everything up the one that shattered was covered in crease and sand so I used a Q-tip and paper towel to clean it up good (exploded view) Step 4: you can press the busing out if you want but I had no reason...everything looked good so i skipped this one Step 5: put flat washer on splined gear (make sure its the right spline you want to convert to) and pass gear through bushing and install spring washer Step 6: make sure splined gear rotates freely and apply a little grease but not too much Step 7: install on truck or place cap back on until it will be installed All my spare parts and 2 28 splined hubs 1 of which used to be 27: Hope that helps someone out there who may go through the same thing and can find a deal on nissan WARN hubs and can convert them over I should say the PN's that I was swapping between were: WARN-28739 and WARN-29091
  7. THe answer is yes...I dug in my spare part box and found my shattered hub...i will pull the pix off my phone and give you the best step by step directions i can... I broke one of the good hubs learning how to take it apart but the other one is all cleaned up and ready to go...
  8. Alright so I bought some used hubs and they're 27 spline instead of 28 spline...I have a set of 28 spline coming but the waffle springs are rusted together and don't function...so the basis of my question is...are the bodies between the 28 and 27 spline the same but the pressed in bushing with the splines are different so I could interchange the cap assembly? I would assume this is a true statement due to having common parts is cheaper than having completely different hub assemblies... If anyone has a pre 91 truck with warns and post 91 truck with warns and wants to see if the caps will innerchange for me that would be kick ass... Thanks!
  9. find you a good junkyard...get the A pilar trim and those tweeters behind...go find a truck that has the rear speakers in the headliner...get the headliner and the brkt to mount them...isolote it pretty good b/c i didnt and mine will rattle from time to time but i'm still not running the headliner and probably won't for a long time...my 87 didnt have either so now I have 6 6x9s and 4 tweeters 2 in the doors, 2 rear headliner and 2 below my triangle windows... Here is a pic where you can see part of the rear brkt Heres the driverside tweeter(hard to see): This is passenger side...u can see it a lil better in this one:
  10. sounds like hte lower ear may have been busted off of the block so the bottom hole is flanging out and hitting the harmonic balancer...all of my vg's have had this happen and i took a hammer and bent that tab under so it wouldnt hit the HB anymore...check it out...also i'd check the JYs...I had 3 sets out in CA but they all got chunked about 2 months ago...good luck
  11. i did that with my first set...the ones i bought didnt come with balls so i had to reuse them and the only way to get htem out was as you stated b/c i didnt have a puller
  12. I"m actually down in Spartanburg SC now...I plan to go to URE in 3-4 weeks...this weekend I hope to finish trimming my fenders and maybe swap out the suspension lift, then get an alignment and buy 2 new tires for the front...whenever I head that way I'll def hit you up... You don't happen to know any Pawlik's or Jamison's do ya? They're about the only folks I know from up around your area...
  13. for the top bolts i usually use a deep well and a 3" extention then connect to a U joint then use aobut 12-18" of more extensions to get to them...it gives you a straight shot and a lot more wrenching room...i've never pulled seats or carpet to get the shifter out...PB blaster and an impact wrench get the exhaust loose without breaking things...slow wrenching will heat up the bolts and possibly cause them to break...I always wait and do the drain and refill after the replacement but that's your preference... do rear main seal and possibly rear cam seals and pilot bushing while you're in there...good luck and have fun...I can do one now in about 6-8hours but i've dropped a tranny out now and reinstalled it on my truck(s) alone about 7 or 8 times now...
  14. no problem...yea mine happened after a 2.5 hr drive home and it was like 11PM and i didnt feel like unhooking the battery and it gave me a good excuse to drink a beer...glad ya got it fixed
  15. look on the brake pedal bump stop when the pedal is not depressed...i bet you see a lil plastic plunger sticking through...theres a rubber stop usually in the hole the pin is sticking through...the way i fixed this was ran a small screw through a bottle beer top and pulled it so it crushed it to the position it should be and that solved my problems for the past 9 or so years until it was pulled and swapped with my 95 pedals during my last swap
  16. not OME... my JC bars are 2 bars but the splines broached in 1/3 of the way up the bars...I don't have any pix of them but i'm probably about to pull them and put in some calmini bars and see which setup I like more.
  17. RIP bro...i'd like to see your rig memorialized and on the trails... A belief instowed (sp?) on me when i was a kid was we all have our time....the Lord decided your time here was a lot shorter than anyone here would have like it to be...I hope there's wheeling on the other side b/c you can bet I'm there!
  18. Finally have internet at the house so picture time... Getting on 40 in Barstow: small dust storm before we got to the closure: Rig blown over: AZ after dust storm...we jumped on the frontage road and skipped about 4 miles of traffic...this is where the frontage road crossed over ended and dumped us back on 40: camp the first night 40 closure dust storms: Finally merging back on to 40(i think they were seeing who had the bigger balls...the left truck is completely jackknifed across the front of the other truck but i missed that pic: Exacto blade and plug (still holding just fine):
  19. Yea west bound had 4 trucks nail each other...east bound sucked for a while but i jumped on the frontage road and skipped 4 of the 9 miles of traffic where 2 trucks sideswiped each other...i'm sure as you've seen...that was only the start of a hellatious road trip... I had 2 alternators, 2 starters a power steering pump and 2 sets of extra belts along with a ton of other "trail spare" parts so I wasnt worried about that but was worried about no spare tire...doh...one of those soon to come
  20. it looks like my post didnt post earlier from my phone...we made it here at 2...got unloaded..returned the uhaul and got the taco from clt and had dinner at my buddies...now heading to the house to get the bed setup and get ready for work tomorrow...
