  1. I've personally never heard of or have seen this option in an 89...you may want to pop the center console out and follow the wires to the module...they may have mounted it under the console or somewhere under the dash
  2. Hokey as in I don't think it'd be structurally sound...while waiting for catia to load at work today I got my sketches down...gonna do somemore investigating tonight
  3. It might take me a month or more to get it done...wheeling at gulches tomorrow then the NOAS run next weekend and then bank of America 500 the following week and then finally a weekend to get to the scrap yard and junk yard
  4. Ive never used anything other than the gasket and been fine...refer to the fsm for anything that needs sealant....
  5. pulled it apart otnight...sleeve is in good condition with very minor rubbing.....i noticed my problem about 30 seconds into the job...the rearward most bolt backed out about 3 threads(teflon lock ring is toast and i didnt put locktite on it thinking it was under enough tension to not back off...i was wrong...) the passenger side was doing the same but was loose not backed off...got it disassembled and reassembled in about an hour and the ride height came back to a good location...so i will hopefully replace those bolts soon
  6. the brake booster runs off of vacuum as well and if your idle is not right (see above posts) it can cause it to stall
  7. cool...well I got it today...there's gonna be some work involved but I think i'll be alright... 1. cut tabs off (I beat them to the side but they hit the body mounts so they're getting chopped... 2. get some tube and bend it, pinch it, and weld it to a plate and use the OEM Nissan bumper mounts 3. the tacoma mounting flange is flat...our as shown above is at an angle so I either need to: a. make a shim with shim washers to make it mount through the cross member which is kinda hokey b. square tubing cutting it at the right angle and welding it to the frame and using "weld nuts" to mount it to that c. drill out the nissan crossmember at the angle of the tacoma bumper and weld in through bushings and run bolts all the way through but that seems kinda hokey too d. other evaluations once I get to hacking on the truck and the bumper to get it exactly where i want it positioned Teasers: I'm sure the UPS guy went WTF the tag actually said do not lift using this tag... Need to go up about 2-3" and back about 2 or so and i think it'll be happy:
  8. Also note if u have topped off the fluid...the reservoir can overflow when u push the pistons back in
  9. Think that Was clear...its like a $5-10 gasket ...rtv could throw a code and if it fails the engine is in jeapordy
  10. Sure they all had one...just some had an insert that has a lid on it ...u can also look at the jgc. Console install
  11. Im getting anywhere from 15-18mpg on 33s but I'm doing highway only till I get where I'm gonna wheel then its mostly 4lo...its crazy BC my taco gets 15-22depending on if I do highway only or what
  12. Yea I saw a kyosho scaler That had lights and everything done up for the interior it was cool...I can't find a truck foe I under 500$
  13. 6" C clamp works great...they're like $4 at harbor freight....just make sure u don't push one piston out while u push one in

I hear ya...Good write-up and great pix...I always get elbow deep in it and forget to continue take pictures...I do things safely but a lot of people wouldnt call them safe...I've only had one semi-major oops and luckly i kept my pinky although i was safe all day long the first time i wasnt and used my bare hands the axle came out and whap right on my hand.

I've never loosened the T bars to do this job but did put it on jackstands and used a jack to move the LCA up and down as required...not sure of the FSM steps but I hate doing my Tbars and I've seen too many of the adjuster bolts strip over time and just prefer not to touch them if i can avoid it
  16. Yes I know the desaign intent behind the joint...I'm looking at fabbing my own with a Johnny joint or bushing in shear instead of tension but need to do some loading studies BC both of those will probably fail prematurely as well
  17. The bushing itself is fine but the steel sleeve is what is failing...that cracked bushing is from an impact load
  18. they're there...htat was before i rewelded it back on...this is on the trail after i split the bushing after the first swap
  19. I thought about that but by design they need some movement to pivot with suspension travel so I havent attempted a fix in that respect yet
  20. the middle piece is the sleeve and its intended to be "consumable" but not ot the tune of 2000 miles... here is where it passes through and the sleeve rubs on the frame as the LCA moves with the suspension (mostly on the top side)
  21. Steve you have the compression rod which mounts to the LCA, then it mounts to the frame.... the sleve goes around that control rod and the bushing goes on the forward side and rear side of the frame mount point... Reference (orignal that had almost 200k on it):

So I want to know about folks experiences with compression rod bushings after a lift...I've replaced mine twice in the past 3 months...once because I whacked a rock and split the bushings but this time the sleeve on the driver side has ate through the sleeve in under 2000 miles... I'm hoping its chinese crap steel for the sleeves and they're eating through like it's copper or something (exaggeration) What brands do others use and havent had problems? SAS is out of the question as well
  23. those are manual hubs...look at ARB and Lock-rite for differential lockers...

Thursday will reveal how much work is in store...from rough calculations i'm expecting to enlarge the existing bumper pass through holes on the body...also the front cross member will need some adapter plate and possibly some trimming and welding on it...the bumper isnt made for trucks with body lifts on it so i suspect some issues with that...I also think I will have to cut the toyota bumper and widen it by 1/4" or so...modification to mount the winch and to get the roller fairlead mounted If I need a lot of steel it'll be a month or so before I get it on b/c the next 3 weekends are filled up...I actually have to fix another compression rod bushing this week before wheeling on Sat...so no promises on anything before Thanksgiving but it will be a lot faster than those measurements i've been waiting on Heres what i'm shooting for:
  25. I am waiting for my bumper to get here on Thurs its a trailgear bumper for a toyota. Theres gonna be some modifications but i will post details over the next month or so
