Looking For Sound Deadener For Floor

When I cut out the carpet on my pass. side floor (front seat) that runs up the firewall the black I guess it's insulation or sound deadening material all broke into a thousand pieces and fell out, now without that and the carpet the truck is very noisy, I want to put something back down before I replace the carpet but don't want to use dynamat as it is too expensive. Some one at work mentioned some kind of roofing material that sticks on anyone have any other suggestions? trying to keep costs down. thanks

I saw a spray on material a while back but not sure what it cost or if you need a special spray gun to apply it, going to look up some stuff later.

I used a similar roofing material at Lowes that has a silverish foil side. Works real well. I used it in my Honda though. You could also use carpet insulation.

I remember GrimGreg having some useful input, if it was roofing or just insulation, but I can not recall it ATM...

What Cuong mentioned is what I was talking about before.

Use Dynamat Extreme directly on the floorpan and then reinstall the carpet with new padding underneath. Its not cheap, but its super effective and will transform driving your Pathy. Its much quieter and much more pleasant to drive now.

I have used dynamat and the roofing material both...

I gotta say, I was kicking myself when I used the roofing material, after spending so dang much on dynamat in my blazer, but that was the "car audio" side of me.

I have not yet done my pathfinder, (and I should have when I had all the plastic and carpet out during the strobe/LED install...gah) but hope that it will fix at least some of the horrible road noise.

Anyone ever replaced the door seals? Seems that my firewall and front door seals are leaking the worst at highway speeds...havent dug too deep into it, but I do know that Nissan wants my left leg and some of my brain in exchange for the seals. Cheaper alternative?

I'm working on the noise in my 94 now, I replaced the sunroof gasket with a good looking used one and still have noise so I adjusted the sunroof handle/latch, that helped but still slight noise so I ran a strip of 1/4" weatherstripping on the glass where it would make contact with the sunroof gasket and that took any noise out. I had breaks in my window weatherstripping and replaced the pass. side with a used junkyard one and it took the wind noise out, just picked up the driver side gasket today, My problem is noise thru the floor as I had to cut out the carpet in front of the pass. side seat due to water damage and that black rubbery lining that runs part way up the firewall was all crumbled and all fell out. Noticed today at the junkyard ( one of 3 we went to from 8:00am to 4:30!!!!), that under that rubber lining is about 3/4" of some type of a fabric material. I'm going to use something on the firewall haven't decided what type yet.

I've seen some aftermarket replacement door seals on e-bay about 8 months ago. Not up for auction but in an e-bay store. Followed a link to their website and they mostly manufactured and sold reproduction door, window and trunk seals for 60's - 70's Camaros, Firebirds, Chevelles and other muscle car restorations.

In the middle of their catalog, and the only import, were door seals for Pathfinders and D21 trucks. It gets weirder because they were located in middle TN somewhere. Maybe they had the door seals supplier contract for Smyrna back in the day and now they are just cashing in on a few extra bucks with the old injection molds leftover from back then.

I'll dig around e-bay and see if I can find it again.

Wow that is strange. There is not a single d21 in the local yards, so a used one is going to either be an ebay item (which is a guessing game)...or a new one from a place like jc whitney...but they dont seem to have em either. Thanks Hardison, I will check ebay again as well...

That fabric material under the carpet is poor insulation. Mine did the same thing. I pulled the carpet to run wire, and the stuff just fell apart. I did not replace it, and I regret it.

it may be poor insulation but it works better than none at all, what are you looking for in the junkyards for a D21? the door gaskets? Don't the door seals glue on?

I am looking for the front door gaskets, but have been unable to find any that were not in worse shape than mine.

Also looking for one of the rear "vents" on the back driver side...I think? Gah its late and I cant remember...
