Hi everyone

It is great to find a site dedicated to creating real offroad nissan truck

So I own a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder, I have the canadian Chillkoot edition, but I think it doesn't mean anything.

This truck is in the family for 10 years now. My father brought it new and now just gave it to me.

We use this truck for towing our snowmobile and ATV and we manage to build a log house with it (it break the tranny, only thing that failed.)

But now I want to turn this good old work horse into an adventure finder.

So just to be sure that I have the specs right ;

On the door It stated HG46, It's supposed to tell me that I have a H233B axle in the rear. I'm post 96 so I should have 31 splines right.

In the front I should have a R200A who' If I understand corrctly, isn't worth a dime offroad.

I say that because I really want locker. I think i can have a nice cost effective solution with the lockright. But I wonder if it completly destroy the on road driving ? I like if you guys can direct me in threads that talk about that.

I think front R200 are not lockable on any means except for a lincoln locker. I alresdy have manual hubs so I'm wondering if it is a good idea or not.

The only mod I have done so far are manual hubs to prepare the lift. But I live in Quebec city and I see more snow than mud, so locker will be on the top of the list.

So this is the questions I will be looking for in your forum. I really think that i am at the right adress to find answer.

You seem like light in my cavern.

Bienvenue ... I'll continue in english for the sake of the forum... R200 is not what I would call bad.... I mean I've gone up a few steep hill with this and it has hang in there quite nicely... About the locker you are wrong. You can lock your front with an ARB air locker : part number : RD-107 .. I think there is also a front mechanical locker from lokka in austrialia..but not sure....

get yourself 4 coils from AC, a pair of kyb struts and bilsteing rear shocks, front and rear locker then i guess you'll be ready for battle ;-)

ps. nice dog hahaha

I thought HG46 meant you had 4.60 rear gears.

But yeah the h233b has 31 splines and while the front is IFS its still kinda burly, surly better then 88-98 chevy ifs but not as burly as Fords TTB front suspion.

But yeah, I wouldnt lock it for street drivabilty,I'd lock the rear and have a winch installed on the front(or rear because its not always a go idea to pull your truck through what stopped you). With a winch, locked rear and some muddies that truck would go any where, just a little slower then some purpose built mud trucks.

Oh yeah...almost forgot...welcome.

Welcome!

So I own a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder, I have the canadian Chillkoot edition, but I think it doesn't mean anything.

Always wondered, never asked if there was a reason behind the Chillkoot package or if it was about as meaningfull as the difference between a SE and XE wd21(which seems to be verry little)... Still can't beat Pezzy's "Chillout" package though...

I'm curious though, and maybe some of our other Canadian members can answer this: IS there actually a difference between the Chillkoot edition and a regular R50?

I can only tell you that I have carpet interior, A/C and a compass on the rear view mirror that doesn't work anymore.

you have snow on the ground right now? early september? wow.. good luck with the igloo this year.

Yeah not snowy right now but it will be soon. I'll post pics of my path in 8 foot of snow. Ah, heaven!

welcome/bienvenue. if you do a lot of driving around the city and making tight turns, you might find the lockright a little bit annoying. i've had mine in for the whole summer now and some days i would like my LSD back, but as soon as you get off pavement, you don't care how much racket they make on the street :D

I don't know anything about the rear end on the r50 pathfinders, but if you have and H233b rear axle with an open differential, you can install a lockright no problem. If you have a LSD, you will need to find an open differential carrier to install the locker in. Keep shopping around all the nissan off road classified sections and you will eventually find one. Mine came from a guy called Nissannut from the Texas Nissan Trail Riders forum. I was luck, it was already installed in the open carrier for me, so i didin't have to go hunting around for one. If you get the ARB air locker, you can install in in an open or limited slip differential.

Also, i would get some armor like skid plates and some rock sliders and a good set of 31" or 32" (if you can fit them) tires along with the locker for your first off road mods. The skid plates and sliders protect the truck while you're learning. you don't want to come down on a rock and crack an oil or transmission pan. If there are rocks on any of the trails you plan on running, get some armor for sure. Lift kits can only help you avoid the stuff that is sticking up a foot above the surface. If i could do it all again, 33" tires and the lift kits would have been the last modifications I do. you don't need clearance when you have armor :my2cents:

Thanks everyone for your welcome.

:yeahthat:

I think this is a great advice and that this is what I would do.

For skid plates where sould I look, custom made or brand.

If so what brand make skid plate for R50

Oh and in the chilkoot edition I have a carbon center panel. B)
