longest trek was from my driveway down to cabo san lucas, the tip of baja. It was about 1000 miles, one way (hence the name, Baja 1000) The QX4 did great, didn't break down once, didn't overheat. did lots of offroading. Anyone who says a Pathfinder is not reliable is confused.... try driving an F150 or a range rover into Baja. Pathfinder is in Toyota territory when it comes to reliability. I have 140k miles - not a single problem to date, still drives perfectly (and its been abused) PS - I also own a 2001 Chevy astro which has been babied and maintained from day 1 - at 100k miles its a total piece of junk, barely runs, its ready for its death bed.

The axle code is stamped on a metal plate in the engine bay, hopefully someone here will know which models have which axles. I would go to a junkyard. I'm sure you could do the whole regear for under a grand.

they definitely used DexronIII Mobil1 ATF.

Ive heard both sides of the story too, dont know what to think! Honestly, its driving and shifting smoother than ever.... but the whining noise is scaring me!

i strongly suggest brakes with 32's i had 32's on my 99 R50 and going 60 mph, I slammed on the brakes with all my weight (i weight 215 lb) and the wheels did not lock up, all the way to 0 mph the car just slowed down, and not that great either I slammed into a Toyota (it ended up being his fault for an illegal maneuver) and blame it 100% on the big gumpy tires and stock brakes You can certainly drive with 32's and stock brakes, but BE VERY CAREFUL, STOPPING DISTANCE IS MORE THAN DOUBLED

I had an ATF transmission flush done at the local EZ-lube ($25 oil change place, use all mobil fluids) just yesterday. It is my QX4's first ATF change ever, in 137k miles. I also had the tranny cooler in the radiator flushed out. Wow, the fluid was dark brown and smelled burnt. The transmission shifts noticeably smoother. I didn't originally expect any change, I thought it was smooth before but now shifts are virtually unnoticeable during smooth driving. ANYWAYS - it develops a whine at idle now. The whine will go away after a minute of driving but comes back after a minute of idling. It whines right away on a cold start. The car drives great but the noise throws up a red flag for me, it did not make any noise before the flush. I tried checking the fluid with engine off and it read too full, but then i found on the internet that you are supposed to check the fluid with warm engine idling, tranny in "Park". What do you guys think/know?

flashing light indicates a problem in your SRS system (airbags) there is a procedure to turn that light off but i'd get yours checked out, it shouldnt come on by itself yeah itll blink if you unhook an airbag, if your seats have side airbags in them like my qx4 does, then there is a plug under each seat for the bags. I once unplugged them for a moment to clean the carpets, had the blinking light afterwards and had to reset them (a $400+ procedure at a dealer)

manual locking hubs...need your opinions

If the plugs have been installed, they should not take them back. Even if you didnt fire up the engine. A good worker will see the marks on the threads. Your only chance is if its an idiot worker who doesnt care and wont check, actually you probably have good chances that they wont check. The cable is easy, just get on top of your engine, reach back there and yank it by the base (do not pull on the cable itself) It should come out as easily as the rest.

Plug #6 has a special nissan tool. It under your back seat along with the tire change tools.

DO NOT USE BOSCH PLUGS IN JAPANESE ENGINES I made the mistake of using bosch platinums in my VG33 and it ran great for a few months, one of the plugs died and caused a serious misfire, poor running engine and a check engine light!!! Not the first time either, Bosch plugs also caused problems in my honda civic (the bosch plug actually broke in half) I did an OBD scan and found the problem, replaced all the plugs with NGK and ive never had a problem in 150k miles!! I mentioned this to my local Nissan 300zx shop and the guy already knew what was up, he said strongly to NEVER use german plugs in a Japanese engine, youre asking for problems if you do Dont believe me? Just read other Japanese car experiences: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60532 "Personally, I'd stick to quality Denso or NGK plugs for any Japanese application. From my experiences, Bosch and non-European engines tend not to agree with each other." "I don't know why bosch even bothered making plugs for japanese applications.. they should have stuck to european only." http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/1gen...87-bosch-plugs/ http://www.hondacarforum.com/honda-2/10136...park-plugs.html

To answer your original question, he is in Fort Collins, Colorado. He sometimes goes weeks without replies, which I completely understand, try going to school, working, and offroading, and then try to find time to play around on a message board The only reason i'm on here right now is because my line of work allows it

question about washers for the 1" spacers
FUELER replied to FUELER's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I havent lifted mine, I plan on using the 1" spacers with stock springs for now. I wonder if mine will bind? -
Got the spacers today!!! Thanks Tmorgan!!! Question about the hardware: Each bolt has three washers on it. 2 flat and one lock washer. What order do they go in? Where exactly does each washer belong? THANKS IN ADVANCE also does anybody recommend limiting straps on a stock R50 with 1" spacers?
