Now that is SAD. I don't like those beasts but it implies that the owners dont know how/have no interest in driving, just talking on the cell phone, sipping latte's and watching movies on the dual lcd displays... Sheeple will buy them. B

Ok, just guessing from little info, but it could be the slide pins for the front calipers sticking, not letting the pads retract enough where they still rub a bit. There is a write up in the garage/how to or tech section about it. I'd start there first... B
-
Does it equate with slow speed or low RPM ?? B

Thanks for the thanks... You are welcome. PLEASE respect other peoples threads more. If you need/want things moved, PM me.... Have fun, but keep it friendly warfare eh ? B

Ok, back to Xterras now... Focus or go to the PoHo thread ! Not joking. B

OUCH !!! You know the system well from the nasty learning curve. Thankfully, thats not the norm, but still scary. I've been lucky that 1/2 the time my vehicles pass, and the other 1/2 I'm able to replace a few things and pass the second time. Yes about finding a place that does free retest. I always hang out and get to know the tech. They'll usually do an 'unofficial' retest if it fails and you tell them you'll work on it and bring it back. They usually charge you a second time for the 'official' test, but at a discount and will tell you if they think it will pass or not. B

Pass me the shovel so I can bounce it off of your melon, please... B

Maybe there is something I don't understand about these motors, but how does the waterpump have anything to do with the timing, pistons or valves ? It is externally mounted and belt driven... Yes, I agree, if it has started to leak, drive it as little as possible and change it immediately. Thats just common sense. Even if you don't have a major leak and overheat, you are pissing slick fluid on the road (polluting) and could very well cause a motorcyclist to crash (exactly this has happened to me). Anyway, how does the the waterpump bend valves when it goes out ? B

Thats the thing V6. Certain truths are recognized as facts, ie. humans require oxygen to survive. Then there are subjective truths, more theorys or opinions which vary depending on perspective or person, ie the sea is blue, no green, no gray... It's like the 5 blind men who encounter an elephant and try to describe it. 1 feels a leg and said "it is like a tree" 1 feels its side and says "it is like a wall" 1 grabs its tail and says "it is like a vine" 1 finds its ear and says "it is like a fan" 1 encounters the trunk and says "it is like a giant serpent" Are they all right or all wrong ? Remember that your perspective is right in your circumstance and to respect others perspectives because collectively we may be able to gain a better understanding. We all see things differently, eh mate ? B

Absolutely about having it at operating temp ! The hotter the better. When you take it in for the test, try to have a specific apointment time. drive it good and hard for 10-15 minutes, then pull in and have them test it immediately. MWS's idle trick helps also, my old 720 was like that... B

Someone just shanged theirs last week and wrote about it a little... WD21 section maybe ? Your manual will have some information also... B
-
Yes, exactly, although you can skip the timing belt if it has been changed recently. They are good for 60k miles on 87-93, 105k on 94-95. B DOH !! Thanks GG...

Ahh, the EGR system is pretty simple, and is listed in your manual... B

That thing looks like a gas pig k9sar !! These days you need something more practical and economical, like this... B

Hmm, bribery doesn't work well with the Cali system, and can get you in deep doodoo ! Unless it has been done recently, do a tune up... Plugs, cap, rotor, wires. 2 biggest influences (other than O2 sensor) on smog issues is fresh oil change and make sure your EGR valve/system is working correctly. So tuneup, oil change and EGR and it should pass. If not, you will know what you failed on and that should help identify what system is not working correctly. Oh, use some injector cleaner if you haven't recently, I recommend Red Line. The good side effect of all of this is that the truck will run well and get better gas milage... I've been dealing with Cali smog laws for 20 years so I'm used to the routine. I generally time my tuneups for just before the required testing. B

Yes, the clutch plate will 'polish' the fly wheel, so that doesn't suprise me but it could be that the clutch plate is glazed (like brake pads can be) and that is not helpful. Hard to tell withou seeing it. Personally, I'd just replace it. Definitely replace the rear main seal, especially since you already suspect it. I didn't replace mine as I had not considered it at the time, and it seemed fine. Hopefully it will last. I left the old pilot bushing in as well as the ID measured exactly the same as the replacement part. B
-
Am I reading this right ? ALL R50's have automagic trannys ? Tally Ho, and off to the mall we go !! B
-
I recommend replacing the clutch plate, pressure plate, throw out bearing and having the flywheel resurfaced/getting a remanufactured one (same thing really). That is unless the clutch is new, as in 20-40K miles. You dont want to have to pull the tranny again any time soon, right ? When I do clutch work, I just replace everything, pressure plate may be weak or TO bearing tired... B
-
The only reason I could guess with any kind of accuracy is because I have had torn mounts and have had friends with the same. And oil on the clutch, air in the hydraulics, etc. 338k miles is a clue if the mounts haven't been replaced. It's a biach trying to trouble shoot remotely; best you can do is try to narrow it down. I get it all the time from family and friends... "The car overheating and it is smoking, what should I do ?". "Are you still driving". "Yes". "PULL THE F^$% OVER AND SHUT IT OFF !!!". "Really, I don't want to stop here". "YES, REALLY !! WANNA BUY A NEW MOTOR ?". Thats is actually a real conversation (abreviated) that I have had. Thankfully, the car survived the owners attempt to kill it. Diagnostics by web with someone who owns a wrench is nice compared to that... B

just bought another pathfinder, a 95! aaaaaaaa

So what are you actually selling ? Any answer on the AC condensor+parts as previously asked about ? Thanks. B -
Yes V6, exactly ! For some reason I thought a snorkel was available, but I'm certainly not sure, and as I dont own a R50, I'm not going to try to look. As long as Robert does some research, I'm sure that he will be able to do a nice job. It is not that hard to do; making it look decent is... I've been teaching myself how to form UHMW Polyethylene sheets into skid plates. Same thing really... Some time, effort, learning curve and a finished product. I look forward to seeing what he does ! Hey Bud, I need the AC condensor (radiator type thing), the drivers side line all the way to the pump and all the mounting hardware. If it is not smashed that is... LOL, thats how I lost mine !! Lemme know, thanks... *crosses fingers) B -
Cool !! Glad it was a fairly simple fix ! Just for information, where did you get the engine mounts and for how much ? Hehehe, I love it when I'm right !! Doesn't happen often so I get all giggly when it does... Beer run, time to celebrate !! B
-
Glad it went smoothly Bud ! Most jobs aren't as hard as they appear. Patience and the right tools go a long way ! Um... Excuse me ? If thats how he works, I wouldn't go back to him. B

No doubt 88 !! Then add the 3.5 hours of shop time to change them, its $350 to change 4 plugs... Needless to say I did it myself... B
