I have an issue with an idler arm brace... We will see where this goes, but as it is, that brace will not mount up... B
-
You have 2 connections by the Y. 1 before and 1 after IIRCI'm sure it is one of these. Don't let it go too long though, the pipe is very close to the bottom of the truck and can burn the floor board. Some members have literally started fires... Several threads about this and the various repairs. If you can't find them via the search function, let me know. B
-
Well, I'm glad you found the source, and before it came apart on you! I'm not defending the shop but remember, the crack may not have been really visible before. You have been driving on it for a bit... I'm not going to second guess what I was not involved with. B

There is a diagnostic section in the FSM (Factory service manual). It is downloadable from the garage section. If you have trouble, let us know. I highly recommend not driving the truck before any trouble shooting. Do you have an aftermarket tranny cooler?? B

I'm in NorCal and I can't imagine your inspection/smog laws are tougher than here. I will install the Thorley headers, Magnaflow hi-flow cat (state legal specific) and a magnaflow muffler. All legal and with a new O2 sensor, I can't imagine I'll have any trouble with smog... B

JGC springs in the rear Maxima alternator (does that count??) I have a roof rack of unknown origin that may be mounted in the future. Mostly Nissan... B

Like was said, but all the fluid changes won't help if the tranny cooler (bottom of the radiator) is clogged. This may be the cause but it sounds like the damage is already done. Sorry... As I understand, reverse requires higher pressure to function correctly. B

I tested it on the way to work today at 35 mph, the engine will run about 1800rpm then the TC will lock up and the RPM drop to 1600. If I turn OD off, the RPM jumps to 2000, if it turn it off, back down to 1600. I don't know what gear it is in at that point. I plan to play with it a little more when traffic conditions allow it... I believe the original amount was 3.8L so if you put in 4.8 instead of 5.1, I think you are probably OK. Certainly better than before by far... Yeah, removing the shifter can be a pain. I had to cut the carpet slightly and was unable to remove the aftermarket shifter knob the PO had installed, but then I was pulling the tranny to cchange the clutch so I had no choice. A few years from now, just be sure to jack it up higher and put in 5.4 liters just to make the average right... B

Assuming that the viscosity mixing is a linear function, wouldn't 2 qts mt-90 and 3qts MTL put you at 12.2ish cSt?? Is my math or comprehension lacking?? B

x3 Koveman nailed it... B -
Are your rear shocks maxed?? Did you read the thread about that size, diameter and type to get?? B

I honestly can not remember or tell by the pictures. A thought did occur to me though, I bet the shrouding is different between AT and MT. Did you look at that or pick it up?? Pilot bushing is small and in the center hole. about 13mmID and 20ID?? They are different between AT and MT so you will have to remove and install. Slide hammer or the fill with grease and drive a tight piston in... B

They'll work fine as long as they are the 2 and 1 prong external screw kind. Just grease the threads first. B

In all seriousness, I don't know what you do for a living now, but I'm pretty sure I could double it if I was your agent. No joke!! The human stress analysis/material fatigue machine would do wonders!! I have broken less than 1/2 a dozen tools (that have been used properly) in over 25 years of wrenching and every time there was an aftermath of OMG WTF when I tried to figure out what happened and figure out if/how I was hurt. I understand that budget applies and yes, I work with tools (not a mechanic) so I am a bit more focused on them. The other side is I know what bang for buck is best; lets face it, most of us here jacking up our own suspension are not going to stop messing with cars any time soon... It's all good. B

I voted... Need a time out in the corner?? B

Your front CVs are always turning, are they not? My GF had the same issue on a totally different, front wheel drive vehicle. The discription was exactly the same and it was the CVs. They were not damaged or making click noises when turning, just worn out. Wheel bearings you should be able to feel by hand when you jack up the car and test the wheel. They will either be loose allowing wheel movement, or feel 'chunky/crunchy'. If there are neither of these symptoms, odds are they are not the cause. B

Ahh, I have not heard of that model. I'll look it up and check it out... B -
Doesn't it also keep the TC from locking up? I can feel the difference as low as 35-40mph with mine... B

Smart... Nice, that is a Concourse, correct, or is it a GPZ they made again a few years back?? Too much baggage for me to tell... I bet that once you start driving the Pathy, it'll see a few more miles than that. B -
Wow, some great deals there!! How does one change the year though?? I can't find any clearance menu on their web page... B

Very good points. This is not a recommendation, this is a rule. Always unwind a clicker (set to lowest setting) for storage... I have cheap and expensive tools also, the cheaper usually given to me or part of kits, bonus tools, etc. The cheaper set stays in the truck; I'll use those the least and if someone steals them, it won't hurt so much. The last time a wrench broke on me, I wound up punching concrete. Nothing broken, but one knuckle gives me grief sometimes. This is my main arguement against having tools that could break. They will break when you have significant force on them and you can easily have a nasty knuckle buster or gash as a result. How much is damage, pain and risk of premanent injury worth to avoid?? B

x2 $800 so far?? Nice, it looks good... How many miles?? B -
That bloke is an idiot, so I hope he sent the tranny out for the work and didn't do it himself. There is no pressure in the tranny (and I'm pretty sure it is vented, I know the diffs are), it is a gear box. Even if there was increased pressure, the most it would do is leak at a seal, not 'break something else'. I highly recommend you do not believe anything remotely technical that this bloke tells you. When Nissan tells it's techs to overfill and modify their tranny case with a higher fill hole to accomodate the recommended overfill amount, I'm prone to believe them. I and countless others have overfilled their trannys according to the TSB with zero negative effects. I highly recomment you do the same... B Oh, the tranny is vented, the shifter socket can not possibly double as a seal...

Good, that sounds like the way it should be... B
