Thanks, it had to be a stupid question, but it was just in my head the master cylinder wasn't that small. I'm going to try to get thru the week just adding brake fluid if I can. Sounds like another fun w/end under the hood.

I've been losing break fluid over the last month and heard a hissing noise this weekend. ran my fingers under the reservoir and could feel the leak. My question is this. is there a gasket between the reservoir and the master cylinder that will repair the leak, or does everything need to be replace. I am a poor mechanic and some need some help on names. I know what the reservoir is, but I dont know what the piece is called that the reservoir sits on. I believe the master cylinder is behind the black boot on the right. If someone has the time to explain how the leg bone attaches to the thigh bone and what the correct names, I'd appreciate the lesson. Thanks, Dag

Advanced Auto treated me really good this weekend and thought everyone should know and hopefully experience good service. Got a new starter for the '87 but overtightened the post to the solenoid. Cracked and destroyed it. Took it back to advanced and told him the whole sad story. He was out of starters so found one at another store close by. I went over to get it, in the meantime he called the manager and told him the story. When I got to the store the manager gave me the MWS lecture on overtightening then swapped out the starter for free! He really cut me a break, because he could have just sold me a new starter. So to return the favor, I just wanted to share the experience and hope they treat everyone here as well as they treated me. Didn't mean to pick on you MWS, you do go off on overtightening. Buy you're right! Thanks and next time I'll listen.

I've been failing pretty miserably with searches lately. Could well be my own fault.

No start this morning, will be swapping starters from the parts car tonight. (and feed the Mosquitos). I got it to crank yesterday by bumping the starter. Hoped this would get me to the weekend. Sometimes one bump is all you get i guess? EDIT: Crap! '92 connectors on starter are different than my '87. That was a good waste of 2 hours. since I had it off, I sprayed the plug contacts with cleaner hoping maybe I got some corrosion, but no good. No start. I'll be bumming the mini-van from the fuming wife til Friday.

The switch is held in place by two additional screws. mine has been replaced twice w/ j/yard switches. Paid $10 each time, but they only last a year or two b4 you have to do it again. You don't need a perfect match. The one I have now has a cruise control switch where my truck doesnt. Just cut that wire and lights work fine. The 1st donor switch came from a Hardbody P/up. If you go that route, take your switch to the junkyard so you can make sure the mounting bolts and contacts line up.

Do you have a body lift? Some folks have gotten lifts and had to notch out around the 4wd shifter b/c it was hitting the floor when going in 4lo after the lift.

I used liquid nail to hold down the set I have now. Probably not the smartest move cuz I don't know what it will take to remove them if the need ever arises. Like Pezzy mentioned they are hard keep on.

My starter last went out immediatly following an oil change. Unfortunately I was the mechanic. Picked up on NPORA to cover starter with oil rag before changing filter. So far I have two years on this starter with no problems! Don't let anyone change your filter without covering the starter somehow.

Don't laugh just b/c this came straight out of Big D's trailer park but try... This guy here Use your 4-way as handwheel, screw in ground 15 deg opposite from pull point. Tie tow strap around head of anchor to pull against. Works great in Mud, Sand, and Hard Ground. Probably inaffective in rocks or Ice. Save $40.

That's the answer I was looking for. I was afraid it all came integrated with the distributor. It looks like just a phillips head screw is all that holds it in there. If it's anymore complicated let me know. Thanks, Daniel

Bought a Hot-tub Friday, on the way home Pathy was having trouble maintaining 3k rpms going up the hills. (South Missisppi hills are slight lumps). It has been 30k miles since plugs, wires and D/Cap were changed last. Plan to do same tune-up again with MAF cleaning. Last time the D/Cap was changed I noticed the contact from the distributor had some rust/oxidation on it. (little metal tab that spins inside the cap, don't know technical name ) Question is can I hit this contact with the wire wheel to clean the surface? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Explain to us Mudrats down here how a cactus spur punctures a side wall. Was it on the tree or just picked up from the trail? Does the spur stay in the tire like a nail? That would be a photo worth posting. Never seen a cactus spur in person, so it's hard to appreciate their ruggedness. In S/E louisiana the toughest plant life is the Palmetto. Hardly a match for any side wall.

On my WD there is an access to fuel pump from the cargo area. It is kind of in the middle, but more to the passenger side. I would think if that were your problem you would see gas on the that side rather than driver side. Not sure where fuel pump is on the R50. Removing gas tank is not too difficult, I do remember the bolts (19mm if Iremember) had rusted/seized and the heads broke off removing them. If this happens you will need self-tapping screws or studs & nuts to re-install. A four-way is very useful for removing bolts. Here's a link that might be helpful to avoid a replacement. Linky

What work did the shop perform on the Pathy. If it was an oil change I would say not. If they removed the bearings probably. It will be hard to hold them accountable unless they are reputable guys. You might start by offering to pay parts if they eat labor to fix. Some guys will do that if they know they probably monkeed it up.

What triggers the 4WD light to turn on and off. If your hubs are stuck in the engages position, that wouldn't cause the light to stay on would it? It should be the t/case causing the light to either be on or off. Asking out of ignorance. I don't know the answer.

When we were kids A friend of mine had a hole in his floor board. We used to drop pecans thru the hole for kicks. :idea: I'm thinking ball bearings for tailgaters, but I'd probably kill a biker going the opposite way. You gotta be careful taking cheap shots.
