I believe VQs have oil flow issues through the heads. I would test the oil pressure, and if it's below 7PSI at idle stop driving it NOW. Hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but VGs and VQs won't tolerate much oil starvation. So oil light came on, and now it ticks and knocks on start up? EDIT: If it's a VQ35, it's at least an '01 and any auto parts store that offers free code checks can read them for you.

I started it up and listened to the glorious lifter tick of a VG after sitting for a week, backed it up to where it's normally parked, and shut it off.

VG33 stock will put down more power than a bored over VG30. VG33 is a better baseline for ANY VG motor build.

A Chevy 350 is almost the same size as a VG30/33. A little longer is all.

I'd be pretty proud of a Pathfinder bumper holding up that well against an Excursion. Those rigs aren't light and are SOLID. Usually a Pathfinder bumper bends if you look at it wrong.

FS5s are pretty effing strong provided you don't put the wrong fluid in it. My '88 is at 203K on the transmission and still feels like butter.

I would use the VG33 plenum. You can always try both and see what you like best.

Upgrading the throttle body size won't gain you anything with a stock plenum. The larger size goes hand in hand with gutting the intake, and yes that will drastically kill your low-end torque. Just a reminder, if you do go with a larger throttle body the intake bore needs to be matched. I agree, the guys at z31.com are jackasses which is why z31performance.com was started. The TBIs tend to need a hotter plug, the 5Es, for complete combustion. The MPFIs can get away with using 6Es.

I've never heard of a hub slipping. I've seen and heard them grenade before...

Instead of going with Warn or Mile Marker hubs, get some factory Hardbody manual locking hubs. Stronger than the Warns.
