  1. Hmmm, I hear a slight high pitch buzzing noise from the fuel pump, I guess you could call it a hiss. Maybe you could turn the key to the on position and quickly run to the back to see if you hear it. There should be a noise from the pump for a few seconds. If that's what you're hearing, then mystery solved. If you do hear the pump, but not the hissing, then maybe a slight exhaust leak?
  2. You need a timing light to check your timing, and to advance/retard your timing there are two screws on the distributor that you loosen, and turn the distributor cap left or right.
  3. There are TBI and MPFI fuel injection types for our vehicles. Both are electronic.

I go old school. Seafoam and diesel.
  5. The sudden misfiring sounds like a slipped t-belt, along with what 88 said.
  6. Were you cranking the engine until the gauge completely stopped moving and then a little more to be sure? Not cranking it long enough will lower the results and give a false reading. I say either do it again, but this time deliberately longer and /or get a new compression tester.
  7. Me too. I'm getting a good amount of oil blow by now under high revs as well. The PCV thing is pretty interesting...I'll search around for that!
  8. I run no muffler and a Magnaflow hi-flow cat, have for a long time now. High RPM response (4000 RPM at 67 mph) is much better than with a muffler, like the freeway and accelerating past 60 mph. It did do something to the torque curve from lack of back pressure, less grunt from a standstill through around 3000 RPM but that doesn't bother me too much. The added freeway pull is quite considerable over running a full proper exhaust system. I also don't get any beef from the cops, and I pass a lot. I've had it screaming past a cop before and he didn't seem to mind. It really is no louder than a ricer with a fart can muffler on it. Fuel mileage will not be affected, but if it is it will only be marginal. Maybe 1/2 mpg better if that. I didn't gain or lose any. But because your truck has a 4 speed tranny (I assume) your RPMs will be much lower than mine (3 speed tranny) so I doubt you'll see the benefit that I have with mine on the freeway. Here's a pic of here mine dumps. I'll bet you can take some flexible exhaust tubing to cover the gap the muffler leaves if you wanted to run it straight to the back end. I may end up doing this later.
  9. Did a dry test and here's what it came up as... 1-130 2-160 3-137 4-162 5-140 6-160 The left side 1, 3, 5, plugs had a good amount of carbon fouling and also had low compression. But the right side 2, 4, 6 were clean and had good compression. What would cause only one side to do that? I can't think of anything that pertains to only one side only. I don't think a leaking head gasket would cause carbon fouling. Coincidental? Strange... I also accidentally broke one vacuum line to the EGR valve, the one that's on the top I think. I can push the diaphram in now, and the truck still runs the exact same pushed in or not. I plugged the vacuum line that I broke with my finger and I could no longer push the diaphram in, but the truck still ran the same. That line didn't have any vacuum to it either. From what I understand this means I need a new EGR valve, or to clean it.
  10. Hmmmm, I've done mine on my TBI and it was fairly easy. Yours looks like a PITA because of the MPFI crap covering everything... The crank case ventilation hoses just come off if it's the same as the TBIs. They're stiff, so be careful. I broke one and had to make a run to NAPA for some odd piece of hose that would happen to work. And I don't see any gasket sealer...
  11. As far as I'm aware, any trouble with reverse means the tranny is pretty much done for

    air filter

Never once heard of anyone I know having any type off issues with a K&N filter in the many years they've had them. Ever. Must be a user malfunction thing...
  13. Yeah I clamped down on that thing with everything I had and it would not budge. And I'm a strong guy... I'll take the vacuum line off somehow, it seems pretty brittle and I don't want to break it off. I can't believe a new EGR valve lists for $134 at the local auto parts store.
  14. If the engine is running you should be able to push in the diaphram on the bottom of the EGR valve right? Or no? Mine is solid as a rock, but it moves fine when the engine is off...
  15. I read somewhere it's supposed to be around 173lbs with like 15lbs difference between cylinders at max... Don't quite remember where from though.
  16. *sigh* I live at the beach 3 months out of the year. But no sense in arguing extremely minimal points with you, you're so literal that the slightest un-clarified statement from anyone gets ragged on by you.
  17. If the traction is equal both tires will almost always spin. Like sand, for example.
  18. I'm sure you'll find running your own speaker and power wires easier in the long run and more reliable if done correctly.
  19. Yeah. Optimum output is 13.8v when it's running. It's also normal for that to drop to around 13.4v when idling.
  20. X2. I haven't been bothered with mine like that, with no muffler.
  21. I wonder if your oil pump is getting weak, making it take so long for the oil to be circulated.
