I've got a 31x10.5x15 BFG MT in the back of mine. I had to fab a bracket to hold it still. It fits in there with a little room to spare. I dunno if a 32" would fit tho.

right under my shifter it's getting really hot.
TrailChaser replied to Gabriel's topic in The Garage
I've got the tranny cooler installed on my pathy, but it still gets hot around the console while driving real slow(like on the beach). I check my 4x4 shifter from time to time to see what kinda heat it's putting out. One major factor is the OD. If you turn that off unless you plan on running 50mph+ that will help. I've noticed mine go from REAL hot too cool way down in about 5 mins by just turning off the overdrive. I've heard it's not good to run around in OD if you hardly ever get over 45mph like with city driving. Lastly, get a quart of Lucus Tranny fluid fix stuff(says it stops slipping and hard shifting). I've used it and noticed a big difference in shifting in about 1 mile. That stuff might not help with your heat problem, but it will help the life of your tranny... ALL LUCUS PRODUCT ARE SOLID GOLD IN MY BOOK. I used that stuff back when I was driving an 18wheeler at the request of my company mechanics, so when I noticed it was on the market for regular cars/trucks I was very happy. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. -
I saw a video one time where some guys hooked up a leaf blower to car a while it was on a dyno machine. They got a pretty damn good boost from that leaf blower if I remember correctly. I wish I could remember which site I saw that on.

I saved a fellow Pathy over the weekend...

The way people usually hit the truck pulling them out is because of a couple of different things going wrong. First the guy doing the pulling decides the car he's pulling out is "out" then stops, while the guy in the car being pulled doesn't think he's out far enough and doesn't stop... I've seen that happen a couple of times. Second, most people that get stuck (on the beach) are in a 2wd car/truck and have NO idea how to drive on sand in the first place. They have way too much stress built up before you even get there to help. So by the time you start pulling them out all they're focusing on is getting out and they fail to notice the truck pulling them out has stopped. I'm not worried about breaking anything on my truck while pulling someone out when all 4 tires are on sand. On sand I dought you could get enough traction to actually break something on a capable 4x4. I always hook up the strap to their car/truck myself, then have them check it out and OK the way I hooked it up. If I can't find a good point to hook it up I'll tell'em to call a wrecker truck. Those guys have insureance for damaging other peoples cars. And as I mentioned b4. Beer plays a major role in beach fender benders. I remember my dad used to always get beer as payment for pulling out stuck people on the beach when I was a kid. He had an old jeep...POS jeep. -

Thanks for the kind words. V6, I ALWAYS have people put their truck/car in N when pulling them out... That way you don't have to worry about them slamming into you when they get traction. I've seen it happen more than 10 times while growing up on the beach... Most of the time when people get stuck on the beach it has alot to do with a beer or 12. I'd rather not be able to pull someone out then get hit trying to help. Even if I did bog down trying to pull him out I could get out as long as the frame/diff isn't touching the ground. Shovels work wonders in times like that. Two scoops from the front or back of each tire and you're out as long as you're in 4wd. Dowser, I'd have probly tried to pull it out even if it was a Land Rover... I'd hate for one of those things to pollute the beach because the owner is not-so-smart. I'd probly have to give the guy hell about it first tho. To everyone reading... Tell all your friends. Do not drive in the water at the beach... Not even a little bit... It's salt water... It WILL make your truck rust in places you wouldn't believe. Only reason I wrote that is because I see SOOO many people doing it, and it's usually someone in a 4wd ford or chevy. I do however love crossing fresh water in my pathy. I don't know why, it's just a cool feeling. -
We went to the beach both days this weekend. On the second day I was watching some rich dipstick in a new land rover driving in the water and cutting donuts, so when we where leaving for the day I saw about 5 trucks and what I thought was that same guy out in the water with waves crashing on the back of his rover. When I got closer I noticed it was a R50 pathy stuck BAD out in the water with about 8-9 guys standing around watching and not helping at all. I walked out to it and the back tires where pretty much buried in the watery sand. I told the guy I probly wouldn't be able to get enough traction to pull him out. That's when I found out the guy doesn't speak english. I don't speak spanish, so instead of standing there watching this guys truck go down with the rising tide like everyone else, I walked to my pathy and got the strap out. I just hooked it up to his pathy and put it in N for him and tried to tell him to LEAVE it in N. I'm pretty sure he was drunk -alcohol- which was probly how he ended up in the salt water in the first place. Anyway, I lock my hubs and drop'er down in 4wl then pulled the guy right out with no problems. I was quite impressed, but I think all the people watching where disappointed. They all got in the trucks and drove off without saying a word. I spoiled there fun I guess. The guy was VERY thankful.... I think he thanked me in about 4 different languages just to make sure I got it. I tried to tell him to wash his undercarrage when he gets home so it doesn't rust but I don't think I got the message across. It was a better day than the day before. I got high-centered on a shell bank... That's what I get for goosing it on loose shells. I got it off after shoveling out most of the shell and having 3 other guys push the pathy backwards off the bank. I almost had to be pulled by a Phord. It was a fun day tho. I didn't find any big shells this weekend. Sorry, no pics. I really need a GOOD d-cam.

Glad to help.

WAIIITTTTTT... before you take it all the way out check this out. You should find the trigger wire to the starter. It'll be a plug on a wire going to the starter. It's right on top of the starter usually, just not directly attached. Unplug that thing and run a hot wire from the (+) positive post to the end that runs to the starter. If it starts to turn over when you touch that it's not the starter, but probly an ignition problem. I learned this the hard way... Mine was doing the same thing you described. It wouldn't work every once in a while till it finally stopped working all togather. I hope you read this in time to check, but if you didn't it's always good practice taking that thing out then putting a new one in.
-
Easiest mod I can recommend is to simply unplug the trigger wire for your starter and run a new wire from the battery to a push buttom that you'll hide somewhere in the cab. Then you jump in turn the key to "ON" then reach down and push the button to crank it up. I did this on mine and it works great. Main problem is that now it'll turn over anytime you push that button, even if the keys aren't in the ignition. I can also start my truck in P, R, N, D, 2, or 1 now. I did this because my ignition safety switch or something crapped out. I took the starter out of the truck and tested it and it was fine. So I just wired up a button instead of actually fixing the problem the "right" way. I like it better this way. After about a week I stopped turning the key all the way over trying to start it and got used to the button. I get a nice comforting feeling when a friend wants to use the truck and they come back in after about 3 minutes to tell me my truck won't start. I just tell'em "If you can't start it you can't drive it."

*UPDATE* Cleaning the MAF sensor seems to have solved the problem. Along with the crappy pick-up and crappy idling problems I didn't know I had till I cleaned that darn thing. Thank you VERY much for the write-up on that subject 88 it helped out soooo much.

Mine does the same thing. I have to actually open a door, hood or hatch to set my alarm off.

I have one of those cobra 19's as a backup radio, or to let a friend use while road tripping or trail riding. I think it's a total piece of garbage. The only thing good about it is the small size. It's pushing about 2watts for about a 400yard range with a decent antenna. It's better than most handheld units, but that's about all it's better than. Most CB shops won't even mess with those. I brought the one I have in about a year ago to see if they could help it out a little. The guy offered me $5 to run over it.
-
As an ex-trucker I say buy a Cobra 29... That's hands down the best radio you can buy for the $$$. It'll be the last radio you ever buy also. If you have the money go for a Cobra 148. I don't recommend the Radio Shack, or the other crap radios. They will never work very good, and they won't last for long... People who own those and say they do work good have never talked on a good CB. The only thing good about them is the smaller size.

I DO NOT recommend the moth ball idea... I've heard of it for years now and it is said to work, but most people I know that have used this method did it at the dirt track races with junky ass cars and they didn't really care what happened to'em. I think it just makes the gas burn hotter or something. I'm sure someone knows the science behind the therory. Check the L&P website for the supercharger info. They don't sell a kit for it YET, but that doesn't mean you can't fab one up for yourself just like they did...
-
Go to the L&P Proformance site and get the works... Or spend a couple $$$ on some new cams... The cheap ones are only about a grand. You could even add a Super Charger or Nos if you want. I hear moth balls will give you a little boost... Have you ever smelled moth balls??? .................. How did you get their little legs apart?

Can you get an accurate feel for how hot the tranny is by feeling the shifter for the transfer case. The reason I'm asking is because I've gottin into the habit of checking it to see how hot it is from time to time. When I first got the truck it would get too hot to touch for very long, then after the tranny cooler it never gets that hot. While on the highway at 55-65 it gets down to reg. room temp. I figure that's probly from the air cooling it tho.
-
Remember that if you have the factory alarm and a CB you can just run a set of wires from a pair of headphones to the leads on the alarm horn. It's not gonna be loud enough to talk to other drivers on the highway, but for messin with the kids playing in the street or monitoring the CB while outside the truck it works great. Install an amp if you want to really be heard. You can also get "toys" for your CB at your local CB Shop that you can play on the air or on the PA speaker... Like the woman having,, um, well,, have you seen the Herbal Essence commercial... Lots of other cool stuff. You can even get a recorder for your CB at some shops. Those come in handy for directions, or when you can't quite hear what that guy said... You can also annoy people with it by replaying everything they say like you can mock their voice perfectly. That can be alot of fun.

I read somewhere that those guys stole that truck.

Thanks for the comp on the shells. I should've takin the pics outside so you can really see'em. Oh, we NEVER find shells this big... This is because of the recent hurricanes. I've found two so far that still had the citter inside. I left those alone. I wouldn't want some dude to rip me outa my house just so he could put it on a shelf.

It was warm. We had been riding around for quite a while. It also does it when I punch it from a stop like at a green light. Thing is, I've got the pedal down so it's not the same. It's more of a slightly losing power 2-3 times right after I floor it. I just found out about this thanx to some asian woman being a dipstick and pi$$ing me off enough to floor it even tho gas cost more than milk. I usually drive like an old lady solely because it cost $40+ to fill up the tank.

I first noticed this problem last weekend while at the beach. What happened is that I parked the truck close to the water and we went for a walk. When we got back the tires were in the water a little from the tide comming up. We got in and it was digging down in 2wd so I shifted strait down into 4wl. When I gave it a little gas it surged about 3 times all by itself. Just like if I were to punch it and let off 3 times real quick. Had me freaked out, but everthing was fine after that. Then today we where back at the beach and I stopped in some pretty deep sand. When I started off it did the same thing... Anyone know what this could be? I'd hate to have it do this crap on a hard trail. One more question... Can you get an idea of how hot the tranny/transfer case is by touching the shifter for the T-case? The reason I ask is that I've had a habit of checking to see just how hot it is. Before I put the tranny cooler in it would get too hot to hold on to for more than 10 seconds, but now it never gets that hot. It goes from pretty warm when I'm in stop and go traffic and red lights, but on the highway it gets really cool. Here's a couple of pics of the shells I found on the beach. Those are last week and this week combined.

Just email a copy of whichever one you like to your local kinkos and have them print'em up then run by and pick'em up whenever you feel like it. $10 will get you more than you can pass out in a few months... I used this method for a side business I was doing, and $10 would get me 300 pieces cut and rubber banded together.

I just ordered an idler arm bracket from L&P so that counts out the calmini setup since it's not compatable. I'll be getting the CL upgrade sooner than later. Seems like everything is on backorder with those guys at calmini. Thanks for the info everyone.
-
You hit the nail on the head with that reply. I was wondering if L&P does anything special to the CL that a pro welder couldn't do.(I'm not knocking those guys, I'm just not into spending $$$ on something I can probly do myself.) One of my main concerns with the beefed up CL in that it does nuthing for the tierods. I could easily carry spares, but I'd rather have the best of the best, and if I could build a setup myself it would be soooo much cheaper. I'd just need to get my hands on so accurate measurements.
