  1. Today I Cleaned my K&N air filter. It was pretty bad, The dirty water in the sink was from the second rinse. This is probably the last time I will wash and re-oil this filter as I will likely be MPFI before it gets dirty again.
  2. sometime the link inside the tranny gets worn and won't reach the switch. same thing happened to me -the cries... pushing the switch by hand turned the lights on but it would not light when screwed in. It had a metal button so zapped it with the MIG so it was taller and my problem was solved.
  3. I thanked my pathfinder for having a working defogger.
  4. Hey guys, my curiosity peaked enough finally to ask this. On some of the MPFI pathfinders there are two EGR valves attached to the manifold. one on top of the other. I think it may only be the ones with Manual transmission. I'd like to know why this is or if anyone has any incite to the matter. That being said I know EGR does and I know that there are many opinions about EGR (and emissions in general) and whether or not to keep them etc... Leave all that at the door please and focus on the question.
  5. My MSD setup wears out Pugs excessively fast. The stock coil paired with the box is more than enough but I went ahead and installed 45,000v coil which by itself is nearly double the stock output. Paired with the Multiple Spark Capacitive Discharge and you have approximately 12x the abuse going on. What I'm getting at is that I cannot go the regular interval for changing plugs... If the truck stumbles I pull the plugs and usually find gaps of .060 or more, V-power electrodes worn past the V and its enough to make me want to downgrade (doing so soon)
  6. SEARCH, some guy on here bored titan wheels to fit his pathfinder hubs. Same process, I think it was about 100 bucks?
  7. I read a report on my 89 (run by VIN) I think it said it was manufactured in Japan but assembled in southern California.
  8. 1a) we all know how a SYE works 1b) a SYE does not change drive line angles 2) the calmini SYE went away because there was not enough demand for it. (needed for more than 6" SL) 3)Don't Insult us or our rigs! These are not jeeps, they do not run jeep drive lines, they are not setup with jeep pinion angles or suspension geometry. (the jeep pinion noses down allot more with lift that's why long arm kits are so common for them) Heloflyboy are you planning on doing 6" or more lift in back
  9. The Factory LSD is awesome. No its not a locker but it can be modified to be locked, near locked or simply just higher traction. I have done all 3. Compare the wd21 LSD to ANY other stock LSD and it will outperform almost all of them. yes, lucas says safe for LSD. but that does not mean it will make it engage better. INFACT LSD additives REDUCE friction between the plates to increase plate life at the cost of added traction. After putting some 75w90 or 80w90 GL-5 oil in it take it for a spin and see if it improves (I like DELO these days) If the oil you use says LSD on the bottle DO NOT USE LSD ADDITIVE. ITs possible one of your LSD internals may have broken. One of the LSD's I took apart had a broken spring and after replacing it (and modifying it) it locked right up.
  10. ... ... it was an inconvenience that my spell check auto corrected to the wrong word... Thanks for the laugh guys
  11. First, If Both wheels are planted and have near equal traction a VLSD WILL spin both wheels but on the trail( dirt, gravel, mud, lifted tire etc...) both wheels NEVER have equal traction. Second, Burnouts are not a primary reason to install a traction device! But they may effect what type of device you choose. Lastly, and here's the answer you really want; At anywhere over 45MPH a car at the track can throw itself into a Flat turn. (as opposed to banked) If they make the optimal cut (as in the most efficient way to lead into the turn) the car will LITERALLY drive on 3 wheels as the suspension loads one side and no the other. Under these circumstances, if you had an open diff, the grounded wheel would have all the traction sending all the torque to the lifted wheel. In a split second your RPM's would spike(and your lifted wheel speed would increase) the car would lose its speed, drop down onto the free spinning wheel (that is moving too fast) and throw the car into a counter turn. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! cars have spun, flipped and drivers have been killed because of this. The VLSD was invented for the reason above and for longevity in track use. Clutch type LSD's wear out fast at the track, they don't like all the heat combined with hairpin turns and if set to tight the cause under steer. They also work in drifting because both wheels are spinning so fast.
  12. I would hope that ANYONE who changes a Tranny would replace or recommend to the customer while they are in there. The cost of the RMS, even if its not leaking YET, is so small compared to the incontinence of getting in there again WHEN it DOES. P.S. try tightening your covers before you go doing gasket changes, sometimes they are JUST loose.
  13. any JY's near you? a JY box can't be more than $30 ???
  14. It may help by increasing how much it locks up and possibly at a lower SPEED. But the truth is, unless you actually lock it, A VLSD will still be SPEED activated and not torque activated. My buddy tried the washer thing in his 300zx VLSD and he cracked the housing because, unlike a CLSD, the internals are not meant to be pre-loaded.
  15. I am weary just because even with a clip to keep it from opening whats to stop a rock from ripping it right off? If I had a skid there then it would be nice but otherwise I'll stick with my bolt and leaky re-used crush washers
  16. I think before you go any farther you should be told that a VLSD WILL NOT perform as desired in a 4x4. Viscous Limited Slip Differential, in other words it works off of fluid motion; Its action is much like a torque converter requiring high speeds to activate the opposite end. In a car, the VLSD does not engage BOTH tires until at least one of them is propelling you ~30MPH but that's really based on DIFF RPM so in big pathy tires it would be more like 40+ before the VLSD transferred torque over to the loose tire. What I would want (hopefully you do too) Is a CLSD or Clutch Limted Slip Differential Its action is based off of a series of clutch plates pressed against each other. Its activation does not require any speed at all and some of them are designed to increase lockup when the input torque (not speed) is increased. I believe these units can be found in 84-89 300zx turbo's and the will be identified by finned diff cover with the exception of the white SS Shiro edition which revived a vlsd. Hope this saves from disappointment in the long run. I might also add that in an R50 with permanently locked hubs and LSD will generate a level of under steer on the street. You can counter this by installing manual locking hubs and leaving the unlocked when you don't need them.
  17. ALBUM LINK: http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/ghj018/MY1PATH/Sliders/ Trail gear ones from Steevo. I also use them as jack points... If I did it again I would mount them 72" wide to match my tire width. Right now they are about 1" narrower on each side (~70")
  18. the reason they didn not help much on the 3.3 is because the 3.3 hangs the pre-cats right off the end of the manifold thus increasing stress. Without the wieght of the pre-cats the 10mm studs are plenty strong for plain headders. 10.9 10mm studs or bolts FTW if you want to go over kill.
  19. Laughable to do just one plug, NGK's (use v-power or standard G-powers). BP5EY or BP6ES 6 of them sould only run you $12-$15. Now that hose is NOT foating there. its clamped to that aluminum pipe, its a 'T' right there that I belive runs to your throttle body. Your dotted line (bottom right) crosses right over the T for the return line.
  20. I prefer cheater bars to jumping. Jumping threatens you and the part but cheaters threaten the part more than you. the little hook links to a little cable/chain reel under your bed to lower the spare on a pickup truck.
  21. I think an old Nissan pathfinder or pickup it a great first car but for 3200 or more it better be freaking MINT. And Mint is not a first car. with 200k I would not pay that much, especially for a kids first car. Or go spend $200 like this kid got lol.
  22. Thats quite some close up right there, nice camera.
  23. No, the odometer rolled over once. he's really at 1,120,000 lol
  24. FRONT, Front JGC coils go in the back of a pathfinder. Its stickied in one of the sections. You can also use Front coils from and XJ lift kit as they can be had new from rough country for $120 and provide the same spring rate as stock but at 3" taller.
