  1. Well, yeah, that's why I'm looking at how to do this now when I wouldn't be able to actually do it for at least a year or two, plenty of time to see what I need to learn, read up on it, and even take a class if I had to. *shrugs* it was a pipe dream more than anything, but meh
  2. Thanks for the vote of confidence sammy... no, I don't know if it even has one, and as I don't have an FSM on hand (and most searches I do wind up with 2000 or later pathfinders) I figured here, where people with an abundance of knowledge reside, would be the best place to learn.
  3. Well, as she stands now, she holds on gear pretty well on the highway, unless we get a steep uphill or I need to pass suddenly... at least, once she's warmed up. Till then, the Torque Converter absolutely REFUSES to lock in
  4. I think my exhaust may be mucking with my power band, as I can feel mine accelerate better between 3500-5000 rpm... my red line starts at 5750 and I've hit the rev limiter once when merging on a short, blind, on-ramp with a semi running up behind me a little uncomfortably quick. She screamed like hell, burned a bit of oil, and shot off like a rocket... after that I made sure to give her a nice wash n wax as a thank you for NOT exploding on me XD But yeah, I feel the most "punch" at around 4k rpm. As for checking my speed: We don't have those on roads over 35mph here, and even there my speedo is off 2-3 mph. And I can't afford a GPS system T-Case gears, I didn't even think about... I guess that would be an issue eh? Aighty then. Is there a reason to swap a 5 speed MT in in place of a 4 speed A/T with Torque Converter lockup? Does MT still have the Torque Converter lockup? *shrugs* I'm mostly looking to squeak a little more umph and/or mpg out of the ole gal, at least until I can get a more efficient DD
  5. *ponders* That is a possibility, especially if I get the MT first, refit it, and then install. I dunno, I'm trying to decide between getting a different daily driver (probably a Versa or Altima or something else Nissan with the CVT system) and keeping the Pathy so I can work on her... I do NOT want to get rid of her, but she needs repairs badly that I can't afford to have done right nwo, nor do I have the time to be vehicle-less (
  6. It was a ford van (swore it was a minivan) and it had a big ole V8 on the back end... least I thought it did. And the way it left my old gal in the dust lol
  7. I guess I should come 100% clean: The highest I've EVER had the truck was with the speedo maybe 5 degrees past the 100mph mark... but I know for DAMN sure there's no way the truck could actually do that, could it? I was, admittedly, trying to chase down a Ford Windstar that had just damn near run me off the road - I think it was a windstar... all I know is it was a minivan with a V8 and the plate number was QA3 something. It was when I noticed my tachometer creeping towards 6100 rpm and looked at my speedo starting a second rotation that I realized how fast we were going... and he was STILL pulling away... Granted, the Pathy drove pretty darn well... steering was crisp and sharp, and the engine sounded okay to me. I came off the gas and lightly applied the brakes and she started to slow down nicely. I know there's no way she was really doing 100+ mph... and thinking about that makes me think, again, that it's the speedo... so where do I go from here.
  8. @Precise - I have the same size wheels that came with the truck, but I know the tire shop didn't have the 235/75/15's, so i got 31x10.5's and yeah, I know what you mean mate She does get awful tight at those speeds (steering gets very unforgiving) but she holds steady and with the sweeping highway curves she seems ok with it... though I wouldn't want to try any maneuvers at that speed XD However, I feel really uncomfortable going a lot slower than 99% of the other cars on the road... doing so, I've had people swerve around me (and then cut me off), honk at me, etc... I don't want to be the cause of an accident, even IF I did nothing wrong by going the "posted" speed limit BTW - I am also considering the possibility that my speedo is wrong - when my wife drives her 01 Subaru Legacy GT and I follow her, she reads about 10 mph slower than my speedo when I'm reading 75... but I don't know what would cause that nor how to fix it XD @Kingman - I didn't know that... does that mean my theory is out to pot? PS - Precise, dumb question - do you mean the safe stock limit (given a perfectly clean, mint condition vehicle) for the control system (steering, suspension, brakes, etc) or the engine (overrev issues)? Again, if my speedo is wrong than all my other hypothoses are wrong, and that could be the end of it right here and now
  9. Well, I think it's time I winterize my truck this year... I was waiting for the cold to come to show me a few things I thought may have been amiss, and it seems I'm right: 1) My temp gauge NEVER goes more than a few mm off of C, even after running around for an hour. However, there are no warning lights, my heater works fine, and there is definitely coolant circulation to some degree as all the hoses heat up. How hard is it to replace a T-State following the instructions in, say, a Haynes manual? Is it accurate? Also, I saw a few people here mention thread grease or something - whazzat and is it needed? Another symptom is my MPG has dropped a bit, so maybe I'm in closed loop the entire time? I dunno *shrugs* Or wintermix fuel... lol. 2) Should I drop down from 10w-30 to 5w-30 considering this winter is already getting very cold and snowy? She makes a racket when she first starts until oil fully circulates, and tonight she was slow to crank (she had been sitting for 48 hours in sub-30 temps). 3) Coolant and Water mix - is the Haynes manual accurate for this? Also, how much does the old gal take? And I saw someone mention a second bolt to loosen, but I don't recall where. I'd assume fill the radiator first then the aux tank, or other way around? (never done this myself, and I don't trust my mechanic anymore after one of his little mistakes... long story) 4) What temp range T-stat is ideal for central PA area? I saw some people mention using ones that open at a higher temp to help warm the truck up - good idea or no? Gratzi all!
  10. The main reason I'm looking at six is twofold: Option 1: Tighter gears ratios, keeping your RPM in the "sweet spot" longer, giving better acceleration and power Option 2: Longer gear range, giving you a higher-geared "cruising" gear. Highways around me are getting faster (while the posted limit is 60mph here on I81, the norm is 75-80mph, even for cops AND state troopers...) and having my engine running 3500 rpm isn't exactly what I like... she sounds SO much better purring along at 2500 on the highway
  11. I'm thinking of doing an A/T to M/T swap on my '90... reason being is the A/T is good, and I figure I might as well see what i can get for it, and I'd rather have an M/T anyways... just preference I guess. My question is this: IS there a 6 speed M/T that'll mate up to the '90 WD21? If not, how can one be procured/made/designed/whatever, and what would it cost? This is a VERY long term project, but I figure previous planning and all that...
  12. I have found that at higher speeds my steering improves - it becomes more responsive and has less play in it (normally my wheel has around 1/2-3/4 inch of play in it, when above 65 that disappears). Alignment and front end is fine (just had it all checked and repaired after a previous shop fubar'ed it up) but yeah, just seems at higher speeds the truck squats down and tightens up... almost like a Veryon LOL
  13. PM sent - I might be able to help you out NVM - guess your inbox is full... Anyway, shoot me a message with an e-mail or IM we can talk over - if you package and mail me the hard drives, I'll recover everything I can off of them and burn it to DVD for you (no charge of course). When I send the DVD"s back to ya, I'll shoot you an OS copy for you to use, along with instructions. Win7 or XP your choice, but it'll get you back up and running till you can find your install (or permanently if you so choose)
  14. Agreed... I could do a better weld than that using Oxyacetylene for Christ's sake... I hope you get this resolved man!
  15. It's also highly ILLEGAL in many states - please be sure to check state and local regulations. I know here in PA, our tires cannot stick out past the "body" of the truck, but fender flares count as the "body" for this regulation. I've seen some people use 6 inch wide fender flares to cover up huge tires!!!
  16. Lol, well, in that case, want to make me a frame too I know HOW to tig weld, but the problem is I dont' HAVE a TIG welder
  17. As someone who's built and repaired multiple PC's - looks like your Hard Drive is shot. It's time for a new one - can I get some more info on the system? Seems like your boot sector went *poof*, but that's a lot of bad sectors... and I mean a lot. You could probably access whatever data is left on there if you put the HD into an external enclosure, but I can't say for certain. It's also possible you could have it professionally recovered (or use something like Hirens Tools or Winternals) but again, can't say if it'll get everything, or even anything useful. EDIT - nvm, see that you got a new install on there. I'd recommend backing up what you can to an external, and then getting a new hard drive - that one is on it's last legs. I'd recommend Western Digital Caviar - very reliable, and you can get the BLack series (faster), Green series (low power use), or Blue series (standard)
  18. my headlights work fine And my fog lights aren't like the ones in his sig... at some point, I need to get some pics of my truck up XD I just waxed her too...
  19. My fog's dont' work either, but they went out slowly... like, they'd take time to come on. Are you SURE they aren't relayed? Because what would happen is I would pull the switch, then 3-6 seconds later the lights would come on. Now, nothing happens... 0o' at all.The switch doesn't even light up. Granted, my fogs are not factory (they are mounted under the bumper on L mounts) so I dunno...
  20. Would you care to come and do that for me? I'd pay you of course
  21. This scares the @!*% out of me... I don't have a welder (I hvae a little MAPP brazing kit...) nor do I have the money to get even scrap metal to use for something like this... and I know my frame is rusty, though a few good smacks with the hammer make it sound solid... argh!
  22. So, yeah, today I went snooping around at all the relays and fuses in various places on my baby... and notice one of the labels - Seat Heaters. SWEET! I thought... cept I don't have a switch for em Why would I have a fuse for something I don't have (and yes, the fuse is installed)
  23. Good point - my bad on the lingo. It was just the front end alignment, but they did the rotation (kinda linked the two, doh, silly me)
  24. Sweet jesus they look cool!
