We pulled the A/C idler, fan shroud, and fan clutch on both the 88 and the 94 when we did them last month. The 94 took us a couple of hours start to finish, the 88 took longer about 6 hours but we replaced the rad and all the coolant hoses and of course we had to make a couple of parts runs.

watch out for sticker shock if you have to get it from the dealer

picked up the left and right side plus the door locks this week for $20.00 at one of my local yards. My drivers door lock broke and I could only get in from the passenger side what a pain. had to change the lock pieces to fit my keys. Just be careful removing the sensors if you find them in a wrecking yard they break easy when they get old

If your running your A/C with the heater it could be condensation from the evap, you might also want to check your A/C drain hose and make sure it"s not plugged

"Factory Dealer Installed" VSS and Key FOB's
vagabond replied to krmiller07's topic in 86.5-89 WD21 Pathfinders
Like the OP mentioned, they were supposed to be mounted under the drivers seat, with the warning light either in the console or the lower dash to the right of the steering column. -
We flat towed our 87 with 5 speed for about a year before it was stolen never disconnecting anything just putting the transfer case in neutral, averaging about 300 miles a day. Our 88 auto we have flat towed off and on for 5 years the same way and no problems. If I remember correctly Nissan recommended after 200 miles starting the engine and running the trans in gear to lube everything, this was before I retired in 93 so they might have changed since then

Pick-A-Part in Ontario Ca usually has about 1/2 dozen from 87 to 95. I just wish I could get there when they put the new batch out

Thanks I'll keep this in mind

before replacing springs height at rear fender flare height at front flare comparing springs springs installed height at rear flare with stock springs torsion bolt cranked after adjustment new height at front flare \Oh and the springs were not GCJs they were out of a 79 El Camino according to the paint on the springs. It rides a lot smoother but I kind of miss the heightso maybe in the future I'll try some other springs. Oh and the idler arm was fairly new and it looked like it had been partially broken, it took me about 3 hours altogether from start to finish

the 94 we bought a couple of months ago has the JGC springs and the torsion bars have been cranked, Tomorrow it goes back to stock. 1. I don't care for the rough ride. 2. I'm not sure if the cranked torsion bars were the reason or part of the reason but the idler arm pivot shaft broke on me last week. Luckily I was only doing about 5 mph when it broke. I replaced it with a moog and I had to pry it a bit to get the mounting bolts to line up with the holes

check the vacuum line at the back of the servo they like to split I have a extra a/c switch laying around if you really need one We have a pick a part that usually has a decent supply of pathys

240.000 on the 88 pathy 181.000 on the 94 pathy we just picked up a couple of weeks ago. I guess I should get some pics of them up on here

Just pressed in on the shrader valve on hi side port while dumping a partial can in on the low side, engine not running. I got out of the business in 93 so I can't be of any help in the difference of the receiver dryers, I know it took me 2 trips to pick a part auto salvage before I found the right high pressure hose, there wasn't very much difference on the fitting where it mounts to the condenser but just enough that it didn't want to attach properly anyway goodluck

My hi side hose blew last summer, and I didn't replace it until 2 weeks ago so the system had been basically open almost a year. I didn't have a vacuum pump so I just started a can of 134 on the low side and purged from the hi side the a/c will freeze you out if you don't turn it down. Like some of the others have said all the change over hooey was just a way to make an easy buck, I think there is a difference in the oil so you might want to change that. By the way I specialized in a/c and electrical for over 25 years with ford and Datsun/Nissan

even without airtools it shouldn't take over an hour

Leak in power steering hose, need part # .. any ideas?
vagabond replied to MadManMike's topic in The Garage
sorry to get into this so late, but that is about what I did on mine last summer when I replaced it and since I had a little over 50.000 miles on the T belt I replaced it at the same spent about 3 hours altogether. I picked up my hi pressure hose at Kragens for about $58.00 and it matched all the bends of the original hose. Hope this helps someone in the future -
Find the leak and repair it ( bubbles in the sight glass shows the system is not fully charged) then all you need to do is purge the system change the oil evacuate the system and recharge it. I did the one on my 88 pathy about 4 years ago when I finally ran out of r12 and its still working great on the original charge and it will freeze you out if you keep it set to max. I run the system at least once a week year around to keep the seals lubed

something else to think about on the earlier pathys and hardbodies, the resistor wires were held together with a plastic bolt and nut. Sometimes the heat would melt them and you would only have hi speed on the blower. We went through quite a few of them at the dealership I worked at and we finally just started just replacing the bolt and nut saved the customers a little $.

Factory service manual info offer - 87-89 Pathy
vagabond replied to 88pathoffroad's topic in 86.5-89 WD21 Pathfinders
looking for the light codes on the eccu of a 3.0 88 pathy anyone? -
An old mechanics trick, 3M yellow weatherstripping cement. A thin bead on the pump place the gasket on the pump wait a couple of minutes and you will not have to worry about the gasket slipping. Even silicone or a grease will help hold the gasket in place.

condenser is mounted between the radiator and the grill, the evap is mounted under the dash right behind the glove box between the fan assembly and the heater box, the receiver dryer is located on the passenger side of the condenser. If the system has been left open the receiver dryer should be replaced as it will be saturated, I've heard of people drying them out in an oven but your better off replacing it, also if the compressor grenaded you going to have metal particles all through the system so it should be flushed
