  1. It's not that bad, but be careful to get the tension right (you should be able to twist the belt 90 degrees between the cam sprockets if the tension is just right) and make SURE your timing marks line up. Special note: there will be NO timing mark on the crank gear when you get the harmonic balancer and timing cover off. Set the engine to TDC BEFORE REMOVING THE BELT. Mark the crank sprocket's position on the edge of the oil pump with a punch. Then have at it. The rear diff you need is a H233B from a Pathfinder. HB pickups also have that axle, but it's a leaf-sprung setup, you don't want to try to convert leafs to coils for no reason. Find the build tag under your hood on the passenger side near the firewall and find "Axle Code". It will say HG43 or HG46. That gives you the gear ratio, 4.375:1 or 4.625:1. Match that with a junkyard or donor axle and you should be golden. Pathfinders from 88-95 had the optional disc rear, most came on SE or LE models.
  2. Ohhhh, OK. I forgot, that's only on Pathy engines to begin with. But hey, just in case.
  3. The difference is minimal. It'll read fast by 3-5 MPH over 55 MPH is all. Yes, they have speedo gears, but I have no part numbers. I'd just roll with it and remember how much it's off.
  4. It should be near the battery on the pass. side under the hood.
  5. Make sure you remove the auto trans pilot converter from the back of the crankshaft on the new engine before trying to drop it in and bolt it up. The auto-equipped engines got an additional collar inside the crank that the manual engines didn't get. You need a pilot bushing installed on the crank for the MT.
  6. Aren't inspections fun? I rather like where I live, no inspections whatsoever, no emissions. You can drive a smoke-belching car with no license plate or doors on it around here and still not get pulled over, I swear.
  7. I see people whining about noises all the time. "My Fronty makes this thumping noise and sometimes it squeaks, what is wrong with it??????"
  8. As far as I know there are no front brake upgrades except putting on cross-drilled rotors and expensive pads.
  9. I've seen speedo needles warp before. Real hot sun will do that to plastic sometimes. Try setting your camera up on a tripod or stable surface aimed at the gauges, then set it for no flash and up the exposure time to a full second or so. That should give you a nice glowy-but-sharp pic.
  10. Bull! Show me one you can find for a couple hundred, please. Prices around here start at $500 for high mileage junkyard transmissions.
  11. I think she got it all done already with a Maxima engine. I've read a post on another forum from her.
  12. You could also hide a simple switch under the dash that is wired to the main relay...small-gauge wiring, easy install, reliable. Turn it off and the ignition doesn't turn on with the key. That way you don't lose radio presets or ECU info.
  13. Sounds like your MAF wiring isn't plugged in all the way. It'll go into fail-safe mode and won't let you rev it above 3K or so if there's a problem with the MAF or several other important sensors.
  14. Use an open-end wrench to remove the other compressor, then undo one swaybar endlink and the shocks and drop the axle to let you put the spring back in. It shouldn't be THAT tight. Stock springs or lift springs?
  15. If you have the stock alarm, it's under the driver's side seat. Get under there and look again.
  16. I dunno about you guys, but $14 shipping is godawful high for a 8-ounce package with gauge faces and some wiring. Did you know that Ebay has been cracking down on excessive shipping like that? Go to the bottom of the auction page and click "Report This Item" then choose "Listing Policy Violations" then choose "Excessive Shipping and Handling". Items that cost more to ship than they do when the auction ends are largely reportable.
  17. I wouldn't drive on it if it's gonna die on you. That'll screw all kinds of things up.
  18. Yeah, one account from Jim was that he came across a stalled semi truck on a freeway overpass that was blocking traffic, so he asked the guy if he wanted to try a pull with the Pathy. The driver didn't think it'd do it, but Jim strapped up to a semi with a trailer and stuck it in 4-LO and pulled that puppy across the overpass and onto the shoulder on the other side.
  19. There are a ton of headlights for that car on Ebay. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?f...ltima+headlight
  20. I forgot to ask anybody about Phil yet. Oops. See, he's alive.
  21. A very nice person loaned me the money to buy a wrecked 89 with a rebuilt auto in it, so I got that and have been saving up for a shift kit to put in it before I install it. Problem is that you have to tear the trans down again to put the shift kit in. Another $200+ I have to save for...
  22. The turn signal flasher is usually just under the dash near or on the fuse panel. If you can get it to work/click once or twice, try listening for where it is.
  23. *shrug* Whatever fits and works. If it's new you pretty much can't go wrong. Just don't use the stock trans cooler, even on a new one. IF you have an auto trans, that is.
