connect your gauge and hold the engine at a 2000 rpm rev and see what the pressure drops to. It should be around 20 to 25 psi but not any lower. As compressors get older they don't pump as well at low rpms so I always check them at a rev. You would really need a set of gauges connected to see what the high side is doing, if the expansion valve is stuck open it will give you a high low side reading too. Look at your sight glass on the drier right behind the grill, do you see air bubbles passing by or oil? When I converted mine I added 8 oz of the 134 compatible oil without removing and draining anything so now I have too much oil and I can see it flowing passed the sight glass. So mine cools but not like it should. If you just see air bubbles your system is low on refrigerant. A/C system are really simple, refrigerant gets cold from being sprayed from a high pressure to a low pressure. Too much oil will interfere with the heat transfer in the evaporator but other than that if you have enough refrigerant and the expansion valve is regulating the pressure differential right it will cool. Provided your evaporator and condenser are not plugged up with stuff keeping the air from passing. James

I take it the lug pattern is the same as the pathfinder wheels too? James -
I was wrong, I can feel the shifter jumping when I accelerate and let off in 1st gear too. I never kept it in 1st long enough to notice before. In 5th gear I can't feel anything but thats probably because the motor doesn't have enough power the lift in high gear. I doubt it's a synchronizer because all they do is line up the gears when shifting, it shifts fine. Usually when the dog ears are worn it will pop out under load. Mine will only pop out when I let up on the gas or sometimes when I give it gas after down shifting. I will have to stop driving it for a while anyway. The pilot bushing is starting to squeal all the time now instead of just when it's cold. I was hoping it would hold out till I was ready to change the motor. Now I don't know if I want to step up the building the 3.3 or just pull the tranny to change the pilot bushing. After just putting $1200 worth of tires on my titan I don't have the funds for headers and cams for the 3.3 so I'll probably just pull the trans. While I'm at it I will check the motor and trans mounts. Probably just change them anyway being they are 24 years old. Hopefully I can find whats causing this to maybe help someone else down the road. James

I know there was a thread about this but I can't find it! My trans jumps out of third gear sometimes, it's worse when pulling a trailer. If I hold it in gear and accelerate and let off it feels like something is pushing on the shifter. It doesn't have this feeling in any other gear. Could a motor mount be bad letting the motor tilt up and something push on the shifter? I don't have a body lift so I can't see much under there. Truck only has 113K trans shouldn't have problems yet. James

Is that from an isuzu rodeo? The pick a part down here is always full of them. James -

Not off to the best start...Oil Pressure Light
JamesRich replied to andrewcconti's topic in 86.5-89 WD21 Pathfinders
You definitely need to find another mechanic. The first thing he should have done was put a manual oil pressure gauge on it to make sure it had good oil pressure before running it anymore. And if he can't find the oil pressure sending unit without a database he doesn't need to be a mechanic! James -
Let me know when you are back and ready to do all that. We can set up a weekend and I could run up there and help you. I've taken mine apart enough to know how it's done. Then maybe we can hit those military trails you were talking about to test it out. James

I wish y'all would have discussed this around 5 months ago, there was an M30 in the local pick a part. I have read what you said about installing the daughter board, so the M30 ecu has a socket already on the board? I grabbed a couple of extra pathfinder ecu's but they don't have the socket. So I need the O2 and MAF from the same vehicle too? James

Be careful out there, I don't want to loose the only other Louisiana member we have! We still didn't get a chance to get together and break something. James

I use a tool bag I got from lowes with lots of pockets. The bag folds when I set it down and they would have to stick their hand in the pockets to check it and none of them give a crap enough to do that. Also I chat and joke with them alot so they know me and trust me so they usually don't bother checking the bag anyway. They might not check it just to get rid of me faster so I will shut up, but hey it works! I've done the cargo pants too. James

AC cutting out when fan switch is on? repair info
JamesRich replied to ahardb0dy's topic in The Garage
Yea you can only get good boudin in south central La. I've tried some from all over the state and the best so far is from two places a few miles from my home. "The Best Stop" and "Don's Specialty Meats" both in Scott, La. The Best stop ships it frozen all over the US, and there are always people from out of state there picking some up. They have a small parking lot but drivers stuff 18 wheelers in there when they are passing through just to get some boudin. On the A/C switch, I picked one up in the pick a part the other day. When I get a chance I will take it apart and clean it so that when mine gets too bad I can just swap it out. I grabbed the whole dash out of this 90 model truck too. It's perfect with no cracks but it's brown. I picked up some Burgundy vinyl paint to try on it. Has anyone used vinyl paint before on a dash? James -
Went to the pick a part and pulled some jeep springs, then came home and put them on the pathy. As soon as I jacked it up the broken spring fell out, I guess I was lucky it stayed in there for the week my wife was driving it around like that. I miss my pathy, its been over a week since I drove it! I have the whole system in my 94 parts truck, and it did work but I don't feel like pulling out the whole dash and blower box to change it out. The manual system works so why mess with it. James

I finally got to the pick a part, they have 1 94 GJC with a V8 the wire size measures .59 to .6. I was mistaken in my previous post when I said .48, I was .1 off. They have a 94 jeep Comanche too with a L6 with a front spring wire size of .58 to .6. On the Comanche the springs look like they were changed because they are clean and the axle is rusted really bad, so they might be from a GJC too. Are all the factory jeep springs the same hight just different wire sizes? I measured the coils I have right now and they are .55. These didn't come off a GJC but a regular Cherokee. The reason I pulled them was because it had suspension stickers all over the dash including ruff county lift springs, and the springs looked new. I didn't realize they were smaller than the GJC V8 springs. I will go back Sunday and probably pull both sets, since the first set only lasted 1 year I will need all I can get. James

I picked up a 110 volt electric impact at harbor freight on sale for $39.95 it's saved my butt many times. Your block looks like a rebuild, thats an old chevy blue engine color before they started painting them black. James

http://www.uprev.com/ My titan used to stop at 110mph. I bought a cable and program from these guys so I can reprogram it my self. Top speed is now set at 320mph, no problem with ever reaching that. Now it stops at 130 because it doesn't have anymore to give, I need some headers and Jim Wolf cams. Give them a call, they can probably do pathfinders too. James Here's a titan with headers, Jim Wolf cams, and uprev tuning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRxYKNBL80M

How ever you take it out just make absolutely positively for damn sure that you put never seize on the threads. Carbon gets in the threads and you can tear the threads out unscrewing a stuck plug in an aluminum head. James

Rear Main Seal poll ( weighing options)
JamesRich replied to shortysmash's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
If it's a good dependable vehicle (which most nissans are) fix it and be done with the problem. In the long run it's cheaper than a note. Band aids just prolong the problem. James -
I wish I could have found some of those hex rivet nuts like the rack has on them with a die to cut the holes. You would never have to worry about the hex rivets turning in the sheet metal. I will probably paint mine semi gloss black too when ever I repaint the truck. Try to match the bumpers rack and step rails all the same color. And roof basket if I ever get around to building it! Or maybe black bed liner for all of them. James

I have a set of these sitting in my shed. The spring rate was way too much for me, it rode like it didn't have springs in the back. The back of the truck would actually bounce off the ground on big bumps. The wire size was .100 larger than the factory coils. The length of the coils was only 1 1/2" longer than my factory coils but it gave me 4" of lift. Then with AC arms in the front and 1/2 ball joint spacers I still couldn't get the truck close to level and the CVs were at a terrible angle. I would like to stick with as close to the factory spring rate just taller so the ride is consistent. So something with between .430 to .480 wire size. James

Yes it broke and the broken end dug into the shock. James

Apparently when I was jumping the hills the loggers left at our hunting camp last weekend the jeep springs couldn't take it! My wife was driving the truck all week because I was on my bike. It was supposed to rain Friday so I took the pathy to work and noticed a strange noise going over a speed bump. Of course my wife never noticed any noises. I'm just glad I hadn't bought any good shocks yet. These are the F150 shocks. It was enough pain in the butt finding this set of springs, anyone know of a company that will wind custom springs and how tall they would need to be if I stick with the stock spring rate? A stiffer spring will beat the hell out of me on these trails through the woods. These were from a V8 cherokee (I think they are .480 diameter) and had a stiffer rate than the front. James

Look up dropbox. It's an easy way to transfer large files. James -
I wish I could do that, but my bike is a suzuki, and my titan uses that expensive key with the electronics. Cost to much to play with. My bike ignition is on the side under the seat, couldn't have a wad of keys hanging there or it would scratch up the covers. James
