Headlights stopped working... high beams still work?
adamzan replied to mbailey802's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
They run the high beams at half power. Sylvania bulbs are trash. The cheap bulbs last the longest as they dont overdrive the filament or put coatings on the bulbs. All that does is make the light whiter not brighter. -
Valve Train Noise w/ Castrol EDGE 10w30
adamzan replied to onespiritbrain's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I don't know why anyone runs 10w30. 5w30 will provide the same protection at operating temperature, with better cold temperature performance. 5w40 is currently my preferred oil as my rig does mostly city driving and then wheeling with lots of idling. In my DD 04 Golf I'm currently running pennzoil 0w40. It rolls over like summertime in -20 weather. Thicker oil will make more noise at startup as it is harder to pump when cold. The fram tough guard and ultra are good filters. Its just the orange cans to avoid. Go read up on bob is the oil guy. There is tons of info on oil there. -
New To NPORA Board & Have A/C Question
adamzan replied to MrFister1975's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
If your truck is a 1995 like it says in your profile, it came with r134a from the factory. No need to convert anything. -
Take the cap off and inspect for brown/red/goldish dust or flakes. Any of that and your distributor is going bad. No just the cap and rotor but the whole thing needs to be changed.

That is pretty much my parents. My mother just got rid of her 2005 maxima that had over 400k km on it.The only reason it made it that far was that I maintained it.

Every time I see this story posted I think that your family friend must be absolutely terrible with car maintenance. It is a well known problem that has been documented for years... At this point its their own fault for not looking or paying attention when things go wrong. Unless this happened in like 2008. I know several people locally with modded r51s and they do very well on the trails and in longer overland trips.

Headlights stopped working... high beams still work?
adamzan replied to mbailey802's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Are they sylvania bulbs? I had both burn out within 20 min of each other once. At night. That was fun til I could find a place to pull over. -
Also only use an OEM thermostat if you can. I have replaced more aftermarket ones than I can remember. They just don't seem to work worth a fskc.
-
If you find one, let me know. As well as rear disk parking brake cables... I'll pay whatever you ask, lol.

Ahardbody on here did something with vacuum hose inside of his to stiffen them up. Maybe in his build thread?

Rough Idle on occasional longer start
adamzan replied to SquadCarPathfinder's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
The knock sensor won't really affect how it runs. Not on these engines anyway. -
You have to be pretty stupid to steal the most recognizable pathfinder around... Glad you have it back!

Rough Idle on occasional longer start
adamzan replied to SquadCarPathfinder's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
I would start with checking the fuel pressure, and then the impedance (ohms) of the injectors. As well as the codes. There is a how to here for the codes. That will likely lead you on the right track. Recent tune up? -
Mysterious Coolant Leak Issue?
adamzan replied to SquadCarPathfinder's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
That hose is the bypass hose. Recommended to change when you do a timing belt service. I have purchased an aftermarket one before. I believe gates makes them. -
Planning WD21 Drum to Disc Conversion
adamzan replied to SquadCarPathfinder's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Yeah, and less maintenance on the drums. I seem to replace my pads every other year in the back. And I don't really notice a difference in the performance TBH. Other than the fact that my &^%*ing parking brake doesn't work. -
Passed Emissions, Failed EGR Function Check (California)
adamzan replied to xylicon's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
I had to replace the BPT valve on mine because it was making that noise. It sounds like an exhaust leak under the hood, but it is not. My 95 has the BPT valve but my 1994 does not. So it may not be relevant to you. -
Lots of white smoke from exhaust in the morning
adamzan replied to calvinM's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Do a block test. If it comes back fine, keep on driving. It sounds like just normal vapor from a cold engine. Mine does it all the time. In the winter it is so thick you can't see behind the truck lol. -

You can still get a new one from Nissan, if you have to. That's the route I'll probably go.
-
Look for a 1st gen xterra. 2000-2004. I have a supercharged as my DD and love it.
-
I'd say its probably the alternator, or the idler pulley for the AC.
-
No they are not the same.
-
A bad thermostat would likely stick open or shut completely. But they are cheap to replace so it couldnt hurt. How old is the radiator? Ive seen on r50s several times where the radiatior has become internally plugged/scaled and cant cool properly. Replacement has solved it.

95 V6 cranks strong, doesn't fire whatsoever.
adamzan replied to uncle.penny's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
Had that happen to me. Lucked out and found a good used one, but now my gas gauge doesn't work right. For the pics, what are you using for hosting? -
Yeah, still looking for some for mine...
