Hey Im some clueless kid (17) whos revved their engine to 5k rpm a few times but I still respect my truck. And mws said if its been well maintained it'll last forever if you want it too. Oh and yes check for rust, especially on the frame.

Fluid film website you can buy it at most hardware stores like lowes or canadian tire

Here in Ontario Canada the roads are salted like you wouldnt believe...
-
Ive got one thing to say. Mines worse, that upper control arm mount is broken off.
-
Oh I've got another question about this frame business. This truck is NOT currently plated for the road. It will have to go through an ontario safety inspection. So is there any possibility of this thing passing it with the frame patched up with plates?
-
Yeah, my rust in the area where the mount is located is worse than yours and I'd really appreciate any suggestions on how to put in back on.
-
Is it common for this thing to come off with the pathfinder frame rust? And also, will it be a difficult task to mount it back where it came from?
-
I found a pic on Slicks webpage that I put arrows on to show which bar fell off the frame. Im currently trying to find some steel so i can re mount it.
-
Mine does it too, well untill i pulled the A/C belt off and it stopped. Turns out the little tensioner pulley is either just noisy, worn, or needs lube. I figure its the culprit because the a/c belt is the only one with a tensioner on my 93.

The best I can describe it as is a steel tube that is welded to the bottom of the frame with a mount right in front of the rear wheels. If you have a lift you can see it plain as day. Its sitting on top of the exhaust right now and i tried to lift it but its really heavy. I have been slowly cuttin out the other rusty parts and plating it in, but this looks like it'll be the hardest. thanks and i hope that described it better this time.

Anyone got any suggestions how to mount it back up?
-
So I finally got off my lazy but to fix this thing and now I have a question. The bar that i thought was a cross memeber for the frame that had broken off seems to be connected to the rear axle, is this a vital part of the truck for safety? I don't have any pics but maybe one of you guys knows what im talking about. thanks

I just put my hand directly into the rear frame!

Someone should really make a write up for fixing the frames on these things. Im getting and tired of people telling me that frame rust can't be fixed. Ill be getting around to my frame as soon as the darn canadian tire here gets more welding wire spools in. Should keep me busy for the next while. -

Will a 70A welder work? I just bought one and hope it will. -

Personally, I would let the shop handle it as Im going to. I welded once in high school (still in grade 12 now) but I don't believe that i could actually weld my frame and its crossmember on because i think a shop would do a much better job than i ever could. good luck though as my 1994 is still sitting out back at my buddies untill i have the time/cash to get it fixed. -
ive never had that problem at all on my 94 SE
-
Mine, when it was on the road , a 94 auto will rev at 2800~ at 65 without OD and with OD it dropped to 2100 :o It's better on gas than my dads R50
-
Yea thats them, there still attached to the frame, thank god, All i gotta do now is fix the rest of the frame.
-
Are the sway bars those right angled things that you can see if you look at the truck on its side right in front of the rear tires?
-
According to what my dad says, one of the linkages is "worn" and that was like 3 years ago, and now with my frame rust i don't know if there still there LOL I live around ottawa ontario and i guess ill have to see about the safety garbage.
-
On my pathy Ive been told that my rear sway bars or stablilzers are broken, well one of them is at least. What do these things do? and are they a requirement for a vehicle to pass a safety inspection to get the plates?
-
Yea about the timing belt, i don't think its ever been changed  But as soon as more important issues are fixed ie frame, i think it should be ok just moving from the garage to the parking spot.
-
Im so glad i got it goin to because how it sounded when it died scared me a little because i thought the timing belt broke.
-
I finally got around to it tonight and wow this thing is amazing, I just put a jerry can of gas in it, charged the batter for an hour and it started on the first crank!!! Now i can finally start to work on it
-
Thanks for the advice, I'll advise on the progress once i get some time. Also i was just wondering, after the frame is fixed and passes inspection, would it be possible to add a reese hitch? or would there be to much stress for the poor old frame?
