  1. Below 10 volts eh... same thing happens to me but it's when I go over 10 beers. Thanks again for the help. Got the Alt. out no problem tonight. The hard part is finding a new/used one in this small town.
  2. I figured it was the alternator so I'm glad you agree. I was just curious as to why the three lights came on instead of just the battery light which is what I thought should happen if it was just the alternator. It just freaked my out to have three lights for three completely different systems on the truck go on at the same time. Now that I 'm done work I'll roll the Pathy into the garage and get to work.
  3. While driving yesterday three of my indicator light starter to flicker at the same time and now they are on all the time together. The "brake warning" light, the "A/T oil temp", and the "Charge warning" light are all on now. Any ideas? There is nothing in the owners manual (I know but I had to look) and nothing in my repair manuals. There aren't any garages open today where I live and I need my ride for work.
  4. Hey I'm only 50 km inside Ont. in Kenora and I don't want to be know as Eastern Canada so can you make an exception for me? I grew-up in Southern Ontario but went to University in Thunder Bay and since I love the out doors (canoeing, climbing, biking, fishing, camping) I thought I'd stay in the North were I can walk out my back door and do any of the thigs I love. No five hour drive up the 400 for me!
  5. Got the e mail! Keep up the hard work on this kick ass site!
  6. I'll definately try all these suggestions. I only wish I had noticed it a few months ago as this AM we were sitting at -22 C. I'll have to see if I can find a kind heart with some heated garage space. Thanks again
  7. I bought another 95 Pathy and since it is in much better shape then mine my wife claimed it! Now I only get to drive it when I can sneak away without her knowing and every time I do I find or hear something that's different then mine and have to investigate. The first issue is with the tach. It never worked from when I bought it. It was pegged out at the max, even when off, and never moved except when it was floored and then the needle would jump back about 1000 rpm. While driving I was doing some diagnosis the other day on it but didn't figure out anything more then I already knew. The next day I got in and the tach started working  Has this happened to anyone else? The other issue is a slight hum that comes from the back end while driving. The hum is faint but can be easily heard. It only hums when the accelerator is pushed. When I'm coasting no noise but as soon as I touch the accelerator, even ever so slightly, the hum starts. The hum sounds like new knoby tires but obviously it isn't that. It can be heard from around 50 kph (30 mph) to around 100 kph (60 mph) as road noise cancells it out at that point. Does change slightly with speed. I appreciate all your help as the closest dealer is 2 hrs away and I have not had much success finding a good mechanic locally.
  8. Space is a true premium in a Pathy when travelling especially when you have two little kids like I do. I have removable Thule roof racks and a rigid Thule box. Both are great as the racks have feet made specifically for a Pathfinder so they are bomb proof. The box is nice as it keeps things dry, is more arrowdynamic then a bag and is lockable. I use it mainly for camping and skiing (we do a lot of both) but will be strapping it on for the Christmas trip. If it's something you think you might use a lot like I do it's worth spending the extra $$. If not go with the bag.
  9. I hear your pain but they are generally GREAT machines. Have you tried any conditioners or treatments yet? I had a problem shifting into R and eventually lost it altogether. Also had hard shift from 1 to 2. A customer of mine rebuilds tranys so I asked him. He said try the conditioners first as working on a Pathy trany is a bitch. I can't remember the brand I bought but basically he said the "O" rings may have small cracks in them causing pressure problems and the coinditioner softens them up and cures the problem. Fixed mine up 95% so I was very happy! I just drained the system and added new fluid and the additive. About 30 min max! Hope that helps.
  10. I've been plowing now for three years and have been runing the wires out from under the hood and into the front seat through the passanger window but would like to do it proper and punch it through the firewall. Has anyone done this and if so where is the best location? BTW if anyone is looking for a plow mine is made by Snowbear and it's great. It's light duty but has easily handles 18" of snow and more. The mounting bracket is made for a pathy so no drilling, just bolts right on. Plow is raised and lowered by a winch which is on the plow bracket not the truck and can be manually angled left or right. Bought it at Crappy Tire (AKA Canadian Tire) for around $1000 if I remember correctly and it paid for itself in the first year.
  11. Easy and free eh! The same way I like my dates! Thanks for the good advice. Much appreciated! I'll try pulling the belts tomorrow. Lets hope that finaly figures it out.

    Speakers

Now gee...having wiring universal would be just too easy. I actually took it out one day and pulled what I could apart but couldn't find anything that look broken. Put it all back together and low and behold the display worked...for 2 days.

    Speakers

Have ya tried the volume control?!?! I ran into a similar problem when I installed a nice Sony system in my boat and I did what NC95 suggested and got an old speaker and wired it directly. Found out it was a problem with the harness. Cheap fix and no wire pulling required. Now if I could just get the display to work in my stock radio I could actually tell which station I'm listening to.
  14. Ok guys...lets get back on topic here! I did the smoke thing and there was no obvious movement of smoke. Even cleaned out enough of the garage to do it inside. I'm not sure if the sound I'm experiencing is the same as yours SuperSon as mine is more of a mehanical sound like a moving part needs lube ect. It has a beat to it (bear with me here as I don't know how else to discribe it) like two "swishes" every second. This makes me think it is something driven by a belt. As I said my first Pathy did it for 7 years so I don't think it's a big deal except it is noisy at idle. I've tried like crazy to track it but can't figure it out. There has to be a fix as the new engine on Pathy #1 doesn't do it. It was the first thing I noticed when I picked up the truck from the garage. Any ideas on a diagnosis proceedure? Thanks.
  15. I searched past topics but didn't find anythying on this. I just bought another 95 Pathy (auto LE) and there is a noise that constantly comes from the engine compartment. The best way for me to discribe it is as a constant swishing noise. It isn't the manifold issue for sure. The nosie doesn't seem to increase but due to road noise ect you can't notice it at road spead but it is always there at idle. Warm, Cold, wet, dry doesn't matter. Now I had the same sound in my other 95 from day one and the Nissan dealer could hear the sound but said it is was normal. Had to install a new engine (don't ask) and the new engine does not make the noise. So now I know my new one should not make the noise but can't figure it out. Any ideas?
