Yeah, im in canada, and every pathy ive looked at around here has frame rot, so what are ya gonna do. Might as well fix it. I think I'm going to practice my welds and get good, and then do my frame. I might buy another welder too, but the 70 amp one will have to do for now.

Yeah I was just practicing on some scrap steel, a lawnmower, and I guess it was probably because I didn't grind it down enough. I tack welded some braces on to my pathy frame with my friends 225amp lincoln arc welder so I could move it around the yard without the frame snapping, and it seems to penetrate well.

I think for the amount of welding I need to do, any welder will take a long time. I've never hit duty cycle on it though, there is a light, but its never come on. Also how can I draw a good bead when it just spatters around and makes little round balls of weld?

After reading this thread I feel like I should just throw my welder in the garbage, its a mastercraft 70amp mig with optional argon, and to think, i was going to weld my pathy frame with it. I'm going to practice with an arc. I'd really like to get started so I can work on some projects, are there any welders out there that are a good value but won't hurt the wallet so much, and I know you get what you pay for.

I got my pathy from my dad, and then he bought a 2000 r50, so like simon and pezzy, I have the best of both worlds. I can off road in my stock wd21, and go pick up groceries for my dad in the r50 (just kidding). I do love these trucks though, I don't know what nissan did to them, but they must have done something right. And now I might be getting another one, a 95, to drive to college with. Even though it has 445000 kilometers on it, and people tell me thats too much, I just look at them and say, thats nothing for a pathy. And when I was at my orientation for college today someone asked me how I'm commuting, and I told them, I'm driving a nissan pathfinder, they said and i quote "holy @!*% you have one of those bad ass trucks? ME: damn right and i wouldn't have it any other way!" My dads new wife (can you feel the love) is trying to get him to sell the r50 pathy now, well if she does succeed, the last time i drive it, it'll be in 4x4 driving over her junker corvette, which by the way, has had more money put into it repairs wise than both our pathys combined, and its only got 160,000 kms on it. While the r50 is around 200k km and the wd at 340k km. Top that domestic s*** heads

I thought it was the wd21's that didn't like big tires in the front, but i could be wrong.

since my windshield is cracked and won't pass inspection, im getting another one. I called the shop, and they can still get me the one with the antenna

My antenna mast is stuck halfway up so I get good AM from the windshield antenna and decent fm from the mast.

I have one as well, I was wondering why i never got stuck in the big mud hole that all the other trucks got stuck in, untill my friend said it was because all 4 of my wheels were spinning when i floored it. I knew my truck was really rare. I'm in canada too btw. Im the third owner, the second was my dad and the first was his boss, definitly no mods.

I get white smoke when she first runs for a while, but could that be because its been sitting and hardly run for 2 years? Because I let her run for half an hour last week and it stopped and hasn't done it since. All Fluids are good.

indeed, simon i guess your truck lasted roughly the same mine did, my 93 was de-plated in 2005, but she will be plated again!!!

mws is right, because also when that happens, a lot more of your pathy will be $#&%ed up, and at that point it won't be worth fixing. Get it done or park it before its too late.

Well taking it on some "serious backroads" in that condition isn't any better for your pathy in its current state. Just have a local shop weld it back on, and go over the rest of the frame and make sure its solid, you can do this your self with a hammer and screwdriver, post up some pics of the rest of the frame if you don't mind. Oh yeah, have you noticed what that bar connects to, other than the frame? IIRC there should be 2 links to your axle, because right now you only have 2 links left and your swaybar, and if those let go, say bye bye to your wheels, if at high speeds, that'll be a nasty accident.

Well, I was quoted around 600 bucks for mine, but I have more rot behind there. I would NOT drive it like that, because that piece is what prevents your rear axle from shifting, that clunk you hear is that thing moving around when it shouldn't be, giving the axle even more play, eventually you could loose your axle, although thats in extreme cases. If the truck is in good mechanical condition, and the body rust is minimal, I'd get it fixed, and bring her home with you. I live in ottawa myself, I think there are other members here from ottawa as well, I know of one whom I've met in person. You can't kill the engine in these things, with proper maintenance of course (timing belt) Oh and is it broken on one side, or both??? AND I bet you that when that bar fell it took out your brake line that you speak of, thats what mine did. and how in the hell did your truck pass a safety inspection? I'd take it back to the place that did the inspection.

hey buddy, welcome to the club, Mine is EXACTLY like that, on both sides. I wouldnt drive it on the road. Yes its fixable, I'm in the process of fixing mine. If the rest of the truck is in good shape like mine is, definitly fix it, if the wallet allows for that.

umm have you checked your frame recently, like in the past week? because for me the clunking sound wasn't only a disconnected sway bar link. It was an upper link mount that fell off. Can you post some pictures of that area of your frame, and if you can, your whole frame. Might wanna go around with a ball pean hammer and find all the bad spots and have them welded....i think you get i the idea.
