why swap out from toy axles?? Its an 86 so we are talking IFS front, why not score an 85 or older toy front axle and use that, I mean its already a 22ret great engine and turbo-ed they are even cooler IMO.....i mean you can turn 35s with toy axles all day long (but any bigger and birfields become a problem) so i dont understand why you would swap out for a 60-14bolt and a chevy 350....sounds like a waste to me...

to me the piston already looks dished....but im no expert

well if its subframe damage than i would start looking around at JYs and just get another one. Who cares about how the body looks as long as structurally you are ok right?
-
the only question i have is this, what are you trying to gain by doing all of this work? are you planning on running 35s? If so, I dont feel like you would be actually gaining much but bigger tires on an already weak setup. But that is just my opinion, and maybe you have other ideas afterwards like a drivetrain lift or something (even though stock it is tucked up quite nicely). I just feel that you would be better off with a 2 inch BL and then solid axling it and keeping it low. That was my plan but i ended up close to 8 inches of lift...Im hoping it will settle, otherwise im going to be pulling off my coil buckets and putting them higher and cutting more fender away....

Starting my Auto-Manual Transmission swap

once you remove all of the auto wireing up to the connectors in the engine bay that should effectively disconnect the tranny computer. I got your call rich but was at work and have not had service since late yesterday. Otherwise man it has been so long i would have to literally be looking at the truck to help you out. -
both are good transmissions. if you get an auto truck just make sure you slap a big ol' tranny cooler and bypass the stock one in the radiator and you will be fine.

6 feet??? no wheel is safe from that distance... if you want strength i would get steel wheels then...
-
yea im not sure. basically it shouldnt be that hard, just pick up a TCU and auto ECU and wire them up wherever you would want really...otherwise there isnt much electrical comming off of the auto trannys, i think i still have most of my shifter parts as well, shifter and linkages, but im sure since you have like a junkyard full of nissans you could scrounge up those parts yourself....
-
i have these wheels, got them for free, they are plenty strong enough, just very annoying trying to get a socket or lug wrench in the deep lug holes...(i never ran them on my pathfinder when it was still IFS, but they should work fine..)
-
i have them. they duct up towards the center console, right behind the radio...
-
ah ok, i can see if you dropped yourself on a rock or some other obstacle. but minimal bracing should be easy and effective, by no means did i mean to leave it alone, but when everyone was saying "oh the sub frame is weak, i just couldn't understand why everyone thought an SAS was not do able....
-
I do not do any towing, but what about getting a set of warn manual hubs up front and unlocking them when you flat tow it? then when you want to drive it lock them back up (and they will act like your current drive flanges)....maybe im wrong or missing something here?
-
pez where exactly did it bend. i know i have heard of a few people doing this, but when max's was out of his truck, it looked fairly well braced, and i was just curious as to what the weak points were....

cool cool. i recommend a tranny jack or motorcycle/atv jack, they help TREMENDOUSLY!! Good luck, and rich knows my number, so just drop me a line if you run into any problems, but overall the swap is EXTREMELY simple....pull out, unplug auto, put back in, fill 'er up, drive away.... -

yep. i just unpluged my tranny comp, and she purrs like a little kitten -
are you serious? before i swapped mine from an auto to a manual, i hated rocking out of something with an auto....its much smoother with my 5 speed my auto never liked that very much, it would protest and slow shift which is not the point of the "rock out" it needs to be fast to be effective....
-
after seeing max's subframe out of the truck, why havent more people attempted this? that subframe to be looked beefy, and with a few modifications could easily support the sprung weight of the truck.
