ok well i set up my redneck starter testing station... battery out of my 64 scout...old neg battery cable running from + post to starter post...wire wrapped there then a wire on the solenoid wire (this is my starter switch) then an old amp wire wrapped around the - post and wrapped around a stud that had a nut threaded onto it going into 1 of the mounting holes and tighetened the nut down on the wire...bumped the wires together and... the damn thing turned a flip so the conclusion is...starter is good wiring is bad somewhere so got a wild hair and tried the old starter and it worked too...so either somethings messed up in the old ignition (which i tried the newer 1 too and they both didnt work) or somethings wrong in the wiring so this is a good thing or a bad thing...hoping i can just run some drop lines to a couple of switches and possibly set up some sort of "nascar" style starting system

hmm well it only works if i hold it...but its long gone now with the harness swap...so i dont guess i have to worry about that anymore
-
my button doesnt stick...u have to hold it for it to work...its prob just worn out or something
-
yea i was dickin off and was like hmm will this work in gear and it jumped forward and started i was like @!*%...luckly i hit the clutch and brake and didnt hit anything and i always thought it was on the wrong side of the steering wheel...if u have to hit it with ure right hand u have to start it with the left hand...doesnt make sense...i tried moving mine but the wires were too short and i didnt feel like making them longer

heck yea...i know those construction guys were pissed this morning cuze after the pose shot i climbed up that lil cliff thingy which wasnt as easy as i thoguht it was going to be cuze it was so slick (it pulled me normal to the cliff face)...so i backed up a lil bit cut the wheel and climbed over it like it was nothing -
hmm i think i might have just had an epifiny (pretty sure i spelled that wrong) but on the relay if i didnt have it screwed into the body would that be the ground on the relay or should there be a wire that runs to the relay seperatly... and if for some reason that ground wasnt connected would the relay still click but not send the voltage to the solenoid??

yea i didnt need too much but it being my daily driver i've been keeping her on the roads and suppossed to get the 87 back up and running but for some reason i cannot seem to get that to happen.... -
its under the dash right and not in the engine compartment...i'll have to dig out my manual to find it...hopefully i can get this figured out cuze its really disappointing to have 90% of the work done and in the moment of truth a pesky lil starter doesnt work i was also thinking...does an auto and manual flywheel have the same number/pitch of teeth

could be...if ure mechanically inclined wheel bearings are a moderate to easy job if u have the right tools (but is a good deal of work)... other causes...faulty hub? or possibly a screacher on the brake pads..if they had to use a crazy ammount of shims it could be something else if u bent one of the control arms (i have upper and lower off of a 95 if ure interested or if u end up needing those down the road a lil ways)

yea he was worried about traction it was crazy slick...coming down the 1 hill going up to the next with a ditch about 1/2 the way down i was trying to hit it at a good angle and the ass just wanted to come around so i just slid down into the ditch and then backed it up and went forward till i had my angle i wanted and went thru it but there was no steering action and very little stopping where u wanted....but he had some mud terrains and they were filled...my ATs were caked up pretty good (god i hate these tires)... it was a good time none the less...and just built my confidence a lil more b/c some of the things i tackled i wouldnt have normally done...but i had a couple beers in me b4 he called so i tried them and they worked out pretty nicely (dont worry i only had about .25 miles of highway use and would have easily passed a walk the line test just not quite sure on that lil breathing thing...its amazing what not eating all day and working on ure truck can do for a couple of beers) -
My buddy went out in his 2wd ranger with another buddy of his in his ram and they called me cuze he got stuck and was fixin to slide into a HUGE hmm hole kinda a ditch but not really like 10 ft drop...it was on the construction site that overtook my 4wd spot...but he was like man i donno if the dodge can do it can ya come out...so we came out and the dodge got it done but i did get to keep him from sliding over the edge cuze it was slick as snot...then while i was there it gave me a good chance to play in the mud... it was so slick that there wasnt a lot of control of the back end and a couple of times the guy in the dodge thought he had to pull me out but i told him i'd be fine and he didnt believe me so i had to show him...as long as im not burried to the frame im not stuck before it got dark i snapped these 2 pix but it made me feel good that he gave me a call and asked me to come help if the dodge couldnt do it dont u think NC has enough reflective material in their plates...thats unaltered...

thats what i did with a momentary switch and now i have 12 v const on the solenoid wire which shouldnt be the case unless something arced together
-
ok have everything hooked up in the swap and if u recall i had a diff motor in and couldnt get the starter to work... so completly new wiring harness, starter and all that jazz and the same thing it just clicks once so i wired it up with a switch and i think i might have melted the solenoid or something b/c now i get a const. 12 volts off of the relay wire so i guess now im going to have to go get a new starter and try and figure it out but i dont wanna waste a new starter... any ideas of what this could be...i hear my relays clicking just no action from the starter and everything else seemed to be great on the swap...except for it didnt start and there might be issues after i get her cranked but till then im stuck on this whole starter issue
-
BEER!! cooler and lots of ice...but sadly i only had 1 with dinner tonight...
-
whats wrong with that ...but over my 9 months time i've installed 2 engines im begging for a crank up this weekend without any fires explosions or anything but just a plain crank.... but good luck with those nuts... have u tried the cheap breaker bar from pepboys with a insanely long pipe? u can also try to heat them up red hot and qwench them sometimes that breaks them loose also what is the spring preload in the impact...i know mine is kinda weak but theres 1 that a buddy has that will break almost anything loose (hes a manager at napa so we just borrow it cuze its like $300 or some insane ammount)

tools and any spare parts might be helpful and possibly some extra fluids duct tape and jb quick weld
-
I'm sure the air gun will do the trick. Oddly enough. I have never heard of anyone stripping the threads on the axles or breaking the castle nuts before... shrug.gif

currently sorta working on that project...but on a very limited budget...and not mainly for more power...but when i originally was looking for a sr design project it was going to be retrofitting an eaton m90 SC onto the 87 until i got out bid and then broke the motor...so for now... im putting a 95 motor in my 87 and swapping the dash and as much of the interior as possible...also swapped fuel doors so now i have an open inside fuel door...i wouldnt mind throwing an MSD ignition back on it (wheelman had it installed in his pathy that i got the engine out of)...i do know just from driving the 2 that the 95's have more pickup than the 87 did... for the future way on down the road esp not until i make sure the swap is working 100% i would like to install although its not for power: air lockers in the front and rear(dont even know if they're out there for our trucks) possibly a full body skid maybe some cams on down the road a combination of diamond plate/bedliner floor boards i think it'b be interesting if you could mod ure frame rails to fit 1 of those crazy JDM skyline engines or a VG with turbos
-
me too...cept last time i had to use my roomates filter wrench to break it loose...i donno how it got on there so tight...i go strait in from the top and pull it out right up by the fuel filter...
-
so i can hack the frame and get rid of it?
-
yea i need to pop out the speedo sensor in my 95 and see if its a gear run transducer if thats the case and the gears have the same # of teeth then i should be able to do that... yest. i got the flywheel clutch tranny cross members and all the grounds taken care of...i did accidently nick some wires when i was chopping the front end off so i could pull the motor and tranny together so i soldered those back together mostof them were'nt all the way thru so i hope that is a sufficient way to fix them the plans for today are to get the front axle, driveshaft and cv's back installed with the t bars...then drain the fuel tank and change the fuel pump gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope this all works out...i have a feeling the dash is going to light up like a christmas tree with the door ajar lights, tire carrier and whatever else i dont have hooked up...
-
well thats not allowed only serious buisness goes on here
-
heh...if its ure truck dont ask some1 else...i almost got in trouble doing that and knowing my luck i checked and i woulda been bad stuck...i had about a 3ft longstick and couldnt feel the bottom of 1 side the other was like 2 ins deep... ironic part i saw a humvee stuck in the same hole in 4x4 mag. like a month later with a "student driver" tag on it
