  1. That's what I currently have. What I don't yet know is if the R50 clutch kit will work with the WD21 flywheel...
  2. Well, I got a few more bolts out of the bell housing today. I'm up to 8, so I'm hoping that is it! Some of those things are hard to get to! Well I e-mailed alkorail with a few q's, and he verified that the R50 and WD21 flywheels aren't the same. So who knows which clutch kit I'll need now. With any luck I can have that transmission out tomorrow though! Will be waiting on parts after that.
  3. Today I ran back to the jy, grabbed a taures 3.8L e-fan for later and a few bits I meant to pick up yesterday, like a slave cylinder. Much like beastpath I cant get any of the lower hydraulic hardlines/rubber hose off the yard trucks. I'll be giving Rob a call anyway, but the parts list just keeps getting longer! Got the starter gusset out today, and also got the 4 bolts out of the torque converter. I've now got about half the bell housing bolts out, but I was beginning to fight with the top 3 so I gave up for the day and came in. I have homework to do anyway. =/ With any luck I'll be able to drop that tranny tomorrow. I'll take another look at the t-bar tommorrow B, and try and get those measurements.
  4. Ran to the j/y again today. Got kicked out (forgot they close earlier on Saturdays!) but managed to grab a grey manual r50 console, black leather shift boot and both shifter knobs. Turns out I am getting a 5 speed swap + cupholders! mwa ha ha ha ha. Got home and had enough time to pull the starter out. Man was that thing greasy! I'm hoping that if I clean it up the oil filter relocation I did a few months ago will keep it that way! So on my t-bars. The right one is slightly bent, and has a wobble to it if you roll it on a level surface. Budget was dictating that I re-use my old ones but now I'm not so sure I should. Silly question, but what's the best way to rotate the crankshaft?
  5. I just ordered one of those 2 Go socket things. Will see if it's worth it! Well got some time to work on her today. Two cuts to the exhaust took a section out, so should be able to drop the tranny out now. Alsso got the tranny cooler lines out. Now it is time for dinner and beer, I'll pull the starter and start unbolting the trans from the motor tomorrow.
  6. That means I'd have to start drinking canned beer! I think I am just going to cut it out though. I'll be launching into it tomorrow assuming I can get some homework done tonight! I did pick up some parts from a different scrap yard the other day. Pulled the interior shifter plate/gasket/shifter arm and a grey boot out of an 88 Pathfinder. Hoping all the parts will jive with me pulling parts from 87's and 88's to combine with a 98 transmission all for a 1995 truck!
  7. Monday I grabbed a stick shift (just the shifter portion) gray manual/t-case boot, and the transmission cover plate from a manual 88 two door. I've only been able to find one 4 door WD21 in two local junk yards. Haven't found an R50 except for one QX4 that was an autotragic. This compares to probably the 8 or so 2 door wd21's I have access too, and a similar number of D21's. So far my auto-manual swap is involving a 1998 Transmission, and the rest of the stick shift specific parts from 87 and 88 vehicles... Now if I could just get my exhaust unbolted, life would be good and I could drop the autotragic onto a motorcycle lift I found at a pawn shop. Sadly the original exhaust on my truck is rusted to crap after 170k miles, and I'm not sure if I should just cut through it or try something else. Can barely afford the tranny swap with me doing all the labor, let alone having to drive it to an exhaust shop if it ever drives under it's own power again.
  8. WTF was i thinking when I decided to replace my transmission by myself. Shoulda saved money and just scrapped the pos.

it can be done in a weekend. my lest favorite part of the swap was the clutch lines and master cylinder install. you also have to switch the brake pedal or trim it. good luck you'll be happy you did it in the end!

I'm the world's slowest shade tree mechanic! I already have done the pedals swap, and have all but the dampner-slave cylinder line installed now. Just fighting to remove the auto now!

good luck to you my friend. much rather deal with a clutch than torque converter.

  9. At least in the USA they didn't. I've found listings for canadian 96-97 V6 trucks however.
  10. Ha ha! I did that on my truck when I replaced the bjs last summer. Fixed it before I put her on the ground though.
  11. So I got her pushed back into the driveway and back up on jack stands today. Got the torison bar xmember out today after a few hours of prying and pb blasting. Looking at the exhaust cross pipe, its all so very corroded. Wasn't able to find one bolt that wouldn't strip off when I got a socket on it. Am debating about just taking a saw or a grinder too it and then taking her to an exhaust shop when I get the swap done. Also got the tranny cooler, filter and temp gauge removed today. Will be putting all that on the for sale forum soon.
  12. I feel like my truck should be sponsered by PB Blaster...

  13. I thought it was about time I updated this! Picked this up today from a local scrap yard who had it sitting on a shelf already pulled. It's a 1998 R50 Manual with 168k on it and came with a warranty. I'm hoping that by using the updated post-96 transmission I can avoid one that never got the TSB memo... Being that it's a newer transmission meant for the 3.3, it's listed as having a different clutch kit than the WD21's. I emailed exedy and got this response. I need to find a 3.3 flywheel and compare it to mine, since if that will match up I think the newer clutch kit would be the way to go since wouldn't the release bearing be specific to the transmission? Progress on the truck has been slow. School is keeping me way busy and we're finally getting the driveway to a point where I can pull the truck back up onto it. Need to get that autotragic out of there!
  14. I'm actually finding more hardbodies in the closest j/y. Last time I went it was 5 HB's to one 88 pathy. Found a 1998 Infiniti Qx4 that looked enough like an R50, but it was fairly stripped already. Looking at exedy clutches, they use different clutch kits between the 94-95, 96-97 and 98-99's. I'm not sure what to make of that.
  15. Random thought, but for those of us with WD21's that need new transmissions, would it be better to source a 5 speed from the R50's?
  16. No armor yet, but I'm going to school for metals fab so it is planned. Mostly I have the bars out for my tranny swap, and with the corroded splines I figured what better time to upgrade.
  17. So a 96+ 5 speed should fit my 95 VG30 and have the correct fill hole?

  18. I'll be replacing my t-bars since I finally got the old ones out. Haven't found any good threads detailing the differences between the different options, so here I am. Thoughts on Calmini T-bars vs Sway Away? https://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/nissan-pathfinder-torsion-bars-by-sway-way-1987-1995-p-3880.html?osCsid=bm591ev20a8f575f7p5nm9f004 http://www.purenissan.com/hd_torsion_bars.htm They both offer 20% higher spring rate I thought AC's were just rebadged Sway Aways, but they say they have a 30% increase? https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/pathfinder-torsion-bars-p-94.html Thanks guys.
  19. I'd worry about attracting undue attention from the local authorities with blue leds...
  20. This is what I was thinking of. http://m.optimabatteries.com/tech-tips/charging.html Apparently older chargers with an agm/gel mode can undercharge and cause damage over time. I'll be looking at getting one of these. http://smartercharger.com/products/batterychargers/ctek-multi-us-7002/
  21. http://www.optimabat...-care/charging/ Hrmmm, I can't find the paper that came with my Red Top, but the instructions on Optima's website doesn't mention anything specific. Guess I'll put my charger on it (since the truck is sitting awaiting a transmission) and hope it doesn't blow up! Planning on installing a second yellow top in the rear of the truck when all my wishes come true! Hrmmm, they only specify to use a charger under 15 amps in this video...nothing about special modes.
  22. What are you guys using to charge your AGM batteries? (Inb4 alternator). The instructions said I couldn't use a normal charger if it's agm mode is a gel/agm setting? Wouldn't see why it would matter if a normal vehicle alt works...
  23. I read somewhere that the 94 FSM worked for the 95's since it is more "complete." Can't remember where I read that, so maybe download the 94 and 95 ones?
  24. Hear hear! I have a Optima Red Top in my truck. I've only had it in there for a few months but I'm really happy with it. Will probably add a yellow top when I can afford a second battery.
  25. x2 Certainly seems worth a shot! How are you mounting the plow? All the ones I've seen down here have hydraulics to raise/lower them as well as additional lights mounted higher than the plow. We get very little snow compared to you though, so I'm curious to see how you set it up!
