It’s not always terrible. I once tuned into a truckers’ convo while stuck in traffic on the freeway in eastern AZ, and one trucker was adamant that people get fecal matter in their ears because they use their phones in the restroom. That was worth its weight in gold, and all thanks to having a CB.

I tuned my cb to the county crews doing road work during a construction stop. Kind of nice to hear how the work is progressing so you know when you will get to go.

I'm no trans doctor, but yeah, that doesn't sound promising. It sounds like first gear didn't engage properly and the computer saw the clutches slipping, which made it lock into third gear (limp home mode) to prevent further damage. The flashing light when you restart it is indeed trying to tell you something. I had a look at the '03 manual (haven't bothered to download the '04, I assume it's about the same) and the instructions for how to read the flashes without special tools begins on AT-48 (the actual codes are on AT-52). The manual shows a stupid little dance you can do to run the test at any time, but unless it's an electrical issue, you may have to replicate the problem to get it to fault, then turn it off/on again to get it to tell you why it's going into limp mode. If that's the case, record the flashing light with your phone, that way you can watch it again and make sure you've got it decoded right. The manual should have some troubleshooting steps for each code to help you track down what's going on. Good luck! The manual's available here if you haven't gotten it yet. +1 for checking the fluid level and condition as well. Warm it up, shift through all the gears, then check it. On a side note, Nissan calls the flashes "judgement flickers." I can't help but think that a judgement flicker must be a small woodpecker that grumbles about how this is all your fault.

Love this forum, I browse through it now for fun. Turns out the speedo head had some cooked pathways on the circuit board. I found a new speedo, put it in and voila, c'est bon.

A 50 may be wider than the truck. Mine is a 42”. It’s about 39” from center to center in the OE rails. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ham is probably the way I'll go in the long run, but as I don't have experience/licenses for that I'll start with a CB. It's cheaper too. I just got a deal on this setup. It's a start.

The best way to describe it is... gritty. It is more dry than moist but it is denser than cake. My grandmother used to make it in a cast iron skillet and we'd take it warm, smear it with butter and drizzle home-farmed honey over it. (mouth watering right now)

There are a few good write ups on this. If you're wanting to turbo the 3.0, its 95% fabrication which will cost you about the same or more depending on what materials you use (Turbo, piping, inter-cooler, injectors etc.). The VG33 swap is your best bet in this situation. A plus with the 33 is a good engine especially if you're wanting more power and it's a good motor to add power too.
