  1. I have the fram sure drain on my other pathy and I've never had an issue on the trails. At least on the WD21 the oil pan is preceded by a crossmember, so that would get hit if anything. I'd be more worried on my Golf as the car is low and they're known for taking out oil pans, just on the street.

  2. Interesting that you're running into issues when turning, usually the only issues people run into with a 2" or larger spacer lift is when the suspension is at full droop. I personally had a 2" spacer lift (2.5" of actual lift) from sfcreation on mine for about a year and never had issues; it bound up lightly at full droop as I noticed when I had it jacked up to work on, but I never once rain into an issue on the trail other than occasionally tearing or popping off CV boots, but I've always chalked that up to other issues for the most part. Have you tried a different CV axle, perhaps there's a defect in your passenger one for some reason? In any case, as hawairish has said, you can totally do a 2" SFD, just have to keep in mind the complications he mentioned. Is your rear end lifted with spacers as well, or springs? If it's springs, I would suggest doing a 3" SFD up front just to make it easier to install and so you don't regret not going bigger later, and toss a 1" spacer in the rear to level it out. I totally understand not wanting to redo the rear end again though.

  3. I've not read 1" as a max anywhere. As mentioned, it may come down to CV manufacturer, or the possibility that the truck sits (or operates) at difference angles at different times. I don't have a definitive answer to your truck, but I'd argue there are too many variables. I've run between 1.5" and 2" of net lift (currently 5" of lift on 3" SFD) without issues. Steve (aka @fleurys), the owner of SF Creation, is an active member of the community. His spacers are pretty popular, and I don't think he's had many complaints about them. I'd reach out to him directly if you have any concerns.

  4. You've answered your own question: they call it a lift because it was once sold as a lift kit; which provided 4" of lift. I agree that the "SFD" part is worth distinguishing as "not a lift". You've got a lot of other thoughts in your comments, perhaps enough to start your own thread if you're having issues. As stated above, 2" of lift is in that no-man's land, and it's hit or miss in regards to CV binding. There no reason one side would be more faulty than another; same exact CVs on a mirrored suspension. Others have reported differences in CV manufacturers, however. A 2" SFD would require a modified or replacement steering link. A 2" SFD is also not as practical as taller sizes, noting that I've fitted 1", 2.5", and 3" SFDs on my own truck, because of tight hardware spaces in the motor mount spacers, and the costs of the steering link (though the joints can be re-used with a longer shaft if you eventually were to jump to taller SFD). Any amount of lift requires additional or replacement parts. I'm not understanding your complaint there.

  5. But seriously, if you want to make a magnetic drain plug, just buy a neodymium magnet with a small diameter...1/4” would be fine. Drill a 1/4” hole at the end of the bolt, some distance less that the height of the magnet, then stick the magnet in, maybe with a dab of silicone adhesive or something.

  6. The filters I’ve had with magnets just have them attached at the bottom, on the inside, visible by looking in. Don’t recall the brand(s), since lately I just grab whatever satisfies the local deals for synthetics. The spare filter I’ve got doesn’t have it. When you do have skids, the valve means you don’t have to remove them (well...still gotta remove the fronts). Although I’ve made my skids that much easier to remove, it’s still one less thing to bother with. (Though, I only change my oil once a year, occasional top-offs...the only way it gets easier than that is to simply not change it.)

  7. None of the engine oil filters I've taken apart had magnets in them. A magnetic plug shouldn't hurt anything (so long as the body of it isn't made of cheese) but yeah, not sure how much good it'll do unless the engine's eating itself. Might buy you a little time if something does go sideways, though.

  8. The electrical system for the adjustable shocks worked in mine, but the shocks themselves didn't have much pressure left. If the system's working, you should hear a faint click from each wheel well when pushing the switch one way or the other as the actuators in the shocks open or close the valve inside. I could never tell which mode mine was in while driving it, but the "sport" setting did make it a little tougher to rock the truck when it was parked. I'm in north central nowhere LOL. Close to Winthrop.

  9. You can get those Gold Plugs for $19, I have them in 2 vehicles, a Fumato on another & an old Fram Sure Drain (SD-3) for my Path. The quick drains are nice but I worry about them on an off road vehicle if it doesn’t have skids, also, it’s not like undoing a drain plug is hard. I can’t say I’ve ever really seen anything on the magnets but they were only $19. I didn’t even know oil filters might have magnets in them (I’m going to have to look into that-that’s definitely the way to do it-definitely would make a plug redundant). Finally, there are cheap pot metal magnetic plugs out there-don’t get those. The Gold Plug is decent quality.

  13. Shocks were worth every single penny. I’m beyond pleased with how well the truck ran the trail today. My main focus today was not to test my trail limits in terms of technical difficulty but to really test the shocks hard to find their limits.... rough/rocky washboards and uneven terrain was not a problem and definitely no longer will be when I’m over-landing. Ran calico trails today between 25- occasionally upper 30mph runs on roads i would have previously taken at maybe 10- lower 20mph. I felt notable differences that instantly validated the $$ for the shocks and rear combo with the HD LR coils... absolutely love the set up and would recommend it to anyone whose considering to run bilstein 5165s and the HD LR 9448 coils. Again imo it’s worth every penny, I would have been bouncing around in the 5100s i had previously. Went downhill/ straight, etc over terrain that definitely had some deep potholes or ditches that also gave the car some various basic flex terrain. I cant properly explain just how smooth the ride was, as if gliding practically. Took various corners at higher mph and the truck felt nice and firm all through out with no rear ended drooping or swaying (hats off to hawairish’s sway links). Trail time was just over 2 hours and the stocks responded well the entire time. 2 hours may not seem like a lot of time on trail but mind you it was practically a two hour stress test.
