mickmutante
My 2000 Pathfinder R50, does not have the cabin air filter, so I decided to install it and do a mini tutorial for it. 1. Unclip the plastic pieces that are located uder the glovebox, they will pop easily. If your Pathy still have the string that holds the glovebox remove it... I did not have.. no photo... 2. Unbolt these 6 screws. 3. Cut the plastic box with a cutter or mototool or hacksawblade, it will brake easily. You have to cut it in the inner line. 4. Clean the new hole and make the filter fit, I did some cleaning with the vacuum cleaner and turning on the fan... I notice that the air box has like a metal filter inside... Just took the picture and continued with the install.... 5. If you have bought the original or non cheap chinese filter just install...
mickmutante
I bought the filter thought ebay... So I need it to be delivered at my house.. but most sellers did not ship to Colombia or the shipping was too expensive... So i bough a really cheap chinese free shipping filters.... The problem was that the filterdoes not fit properly on the box... So... I have to trim some plastic parts and glue them, and glue some foam in the filter to avoid air leaking... 6. The filter set did not come with the metalic "C" clip.. so i took it from the air box. 7. To prevent more air leak, i put some resin between the filters union... I did all the work 1 to 1.5 hours (with the filter modification)... I hope it helps.... Edited January 7, 2016 by mickmutante
CDN_S4
I've done the exact same thing with mine too! There was a LOT of dirt and debris in that box that got blasted straight into the cabin. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with a base model.
teixeira
This is a great mod. Looks just like mine, the WD21... I wonder if it is also possible....
Terranovation
This is a great mod. Looks just like mine, the WD21... I wonder if it is also possible.... I often wonder the same thing. Every six months it's best to just take the resistor out and vacuum out the box through the hole, then spray some air freshener in there. If you don't park under trees a lot then a simple inspection once a year wouldn't hurt. 15 minutes for peace of mind.
vagabond
on the d21 and wd21 that is where the A/C evap sits, if you don't have A/C it would be a simple install
teixeira
Well I don't have A/C now but I'm planning to next summer. Where I live there's tree's on both sides so I'm used on cleaning it every 2 months...

adamzan
I suppose if you buy the direct fit one you don't have to do this? My Xterra has a cabin filter but it would be nice for the WD.
Rebelord
Its just a matter of cutting out the already notched slot for the filter assembly Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
mickmutante
I bought the filters form an chinesse ebay reseller... They were few milimiters bigger than the space available... So i have to sand the filters to make them fit...
Rebelord
What I tried to show in the pics. Was that you put the different sides together. The one side without the spaced bumps goes against the straight side. The straight side has a raised area that fits in the other. Like a puzzle peice. neilca
Does anyone have pictures they can post on this mod? I am wanting to add these filters to my 99.
Mrelcocko
My 97 QX4 doesn't have the filters. That's odd to me. Does anyone know why my 97 Quey wouldn't have come from the factory with cabin filters? I done the mode on my 98 Pathy not a hard mod at all. neilca
I did the mod today to my 99 Pathfinder. I used a box cutter to cut out the plastic, it is very thin. BTW cut out only the plastic between the lines. I did not have a clip so I made one. Not as good as the factory one I am sure, but holding right now. Has anyone sourced these clips yet? Bunchie
Always wondered about this mod...and as this seems to be a "hit n miss" thread, the only pics were of the filter itself were from Rebelord. How much of a beeeotch is it to do this job? Is there provision for this filter in the baseline heater housing? Pics would be wonderful and are worth a thousand words...thx, V
neilca
The base units do have provisions in that there are knock out panels. Just cut between the lines. Hardest part is removing the glove box. Oh and finding a clip to hold the filters in place. Sorry I didn't get pictures when I did mine.
