k9sar
locate the old one, remove it, insert the new one.
Mr. Pickles
locate the old one, remove it, insert the new one. That's just bad. Actually, where is it located on the Pathy? I haven't changed mine yet, and haven't poked around to find it but should soon.
Ramithepimp77
Mines on the pass side right behind the battery. I think if yous is a V6 it shuold be in the same spot. All you do is.... LOCATE!!! From there its pretty easy. Loosen the clamps on the hoses (theres tow of them one on top and one on the bottom), pop the hoses off, put the new fuel filter in, and drive away! Ramithepimp77
OH YA!!! You might want to dissconnect the battery since I almost died when I changed my fuel filter. I was loosining the clamps and the wrench hit some little thing (i honestly dont know what its for) and it sparked while there was a little gas on my hands. Nothing caught on fire BUT it could have and then you guys would be sad cuz I would be gone! BE CAREFUL! Rami
k9sar
if nobody chimes in by the time I leave work, I'll check mine (95 V6) and make sure of where the FF is.
Precise1
Master Mechanic Rami to the rescue. Yep, thats pretty much it, and thats pretty much it... One of the easier fuel filters to change; of course, it takes a lot of engineering to make EVERYTHING totally inaccessable... Bernard
ChromoTech
Ive heared that there is one in the fuel tank!? and how hard is it to change out the fuel pump??
Precise1
Chromotech, its the fuel pump thats in the tank  Dont like that design myself... Gotta pull the tank to get to it. I dont know about any filter, but it probably has some sort of screen. You know, for leaves, tadpoles, mice, etc. Bernard
Mark
Pump's in the tank. There's a filter in the tank. Another filter under the hood. NOBODY ever replaces the one in the tank. Pulling the tank is a PITA. The one under the hood's your main defense.
jj big shoe
I had to change the fuel pump on my '87 once. If you pull the carpet up in the rear, there's a circular access door right above the pump on the passenger side. I don't know if all model years have it, but it's a heluva good idea. 88pathoffroad
They all have an access door through the floor. You don't have to take the tank off to get the fuel pump out.
Cachefinder
Mine is like the one in the picture but the hose is stuck (like fused to) on the canister. Any hints as to how to remove it...
k9sar
remove the clamp. Then try twisting or pushing the hose or both. Pulling will actually tighten to the nipple (remember those old chinese finger traps?). Pushing it on hard should spread the hose enough to break it loose. If all this fails, cut it off and hope there is enough play in the hose to get it on the new one, otherwise throw on a new fuel line.
Leo94
Hey sorry to bring up on old topic but as mentioned above there is a fuel filter in the tank also?. Is this for wd21's? does anybody have a picture of this and how hard is it to remove?
ahardb0dy
To replace the fuel filter first you need to pull the fuse for the fuel pump, than crank the engine, if it starts it won't run for long, than try to start the engine again, when it doesn't start you can move on to changing the filter. You always want to relieve the pressure before pulling the hoses off.
Leo94
I know that bit but im talking about the filter in the tank because theres two filters (One in the engine bay and one in the tank). I also cant seem to find a replacement one for the tank unless you just wash it out?
Towncivilian
You should never need to replace an in-tank fuel filter unless you're replacing the fuel pump. Don't worry about it, just replace the in-line filter in the engine bay.
nismothunder
Replace the canistor only. Whats the point of taking the time to replace the one in the tank with out replacing the fuel pump. There is a hatch in the rear to access the fuel pump under the carpet in the cargo area. And I once saw a Ford Escort idle for 5 minutes with the pump fuse pulled. Alkorahil
As stated above......the 'filter' in the tank comes is part of the fuel pump. It is really just a catch bag to keep very large particles from getting in the pump
silverton
As alkorahil said, the filter in the tank is basically just a net sock that goes over the pickup tube of the pump. All it does is keep rocks from being able to get sucked up from the tank, the filter under the hood, which is attached to a bracket on the passenger side fender, is where all the fine material is going to get caught that will restrict the flow of fuel to the motor. Alkorahil
FUN FACT: Nissan does not call it a 'fuel filter'. they call it a 'fuel strainer'.
devonianwalk
FUN FACT: Nissan does not call it a 'fuel filter'. they call it a 'fuel strainer'. No &^%*ing wonder I can't find it using the search function!
