Dark94XE
Just a teaser... I'm in the process of building a Safari Rack tonight. I've actually been working on it for a couple of nights now. It's dimensions are 44x60x6" deep. I'll get some pictures up as soon as it's done. Wish me luck

PDCCD
Hey! Real nice work! Looks pretty tall though. It's only 6"? It'll help me decide the size i want, thanks.
Soccerstudd5
Wow, looks really good! I like the hieght. Edited September 18, 2007 by Soccerstudd5
PATHRIDER
It looks real good right now but I think itll look even better if you put a curve on the side...make it shorter up front and it rises up towards the back
Dark94XE
That's a good idea. Maybe I'll taper the next one. It's a little taller than 6". The verticals are 6" and the main tubes are 3/4", so overall height is 7-1/2". It'll look a lot better when I get some lights and a high lift jack on it. 88pathoffroad
Add some tabs for lights and you have a $500 rack for the cost of the steel and your time to put it together! Looks great!
MadManMike
Totally Awesome!.... it fits and looks so good. Could you get a closer up shot of what you did to attach it to the existing roof rack? Also what type of rims do you have? ( I like em) -Mike *edited because I accidentley hit the smiley instead of the smiley (I really do like them) Edited September 18, 2007 by MadManMike

Dark94XE
The wheels are factory Chevy Suburban alloys. They came off an '88- 1/2 ton Suburban. I had the centers machined out to 100mm and painted them bronze.
Jarsiff
wow that looks great! how much shipped to Oregon with attachments for the thick SE rack? lolz
Dark94XE
Sorry, not selling them. If you saw my welds, you wouldn't want one. I'm still getting the hang of it. Thin wall tubing is a PITA to weld. I'm welding everything in site, trying to get some practice before I build my bull bar.
Jarsiff
I figured you werent selling them from what you said above, but if you were selling them id want one..there in lies the compliment
Steve_RI
Hey a fellow New Englander.....Looks great....how are you attaching to roof?
Dark94XE
I welded some 1/4" thick tabs to the floor bars and bolted it to the factory roof rack. There are some little adjustable doodads in the cross bars on the factory rack, they look like nut-serts, I just bolted into them. I made sure to use lock washers and loctite. I'll get some pics posted when I get my camera back from the little lady.
vengeful
I would add some more support in the corners. What's the wall thickness and what grade of steel did you use?
