Poor man's way to remove the rear suspension bushings
180sx replied to taro's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Thats great man. I can't wait to fix mine, as I bought mine just like that. Also jealous about the 5 speed! Oh, and p.s. The 'PF' IS NOT a crossover. It is, in fact, an SUV; albeit a mid-size (kinda on the smaller size) one. Jose -
Quick question on front suspension
180sx replied to CaughtLikeFire's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Umm...why do you want poly bushings for your sway bar? Are you going racing? I hear of people wanting to get rid of their sway bar, get quick disconnect end links, but never about tightening up their sway bar! Or you just want something that will last? Just get under your R50 and measure it. Jose -
1" spacers with lift...too much for CV's?
180sx replied to exit34rocker1017's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
You should be good with the 1" spacer and AC springs. A few people have done it. And Yes, get the Manual Hubs as Tyler stated you should consider. As for the rear spacer, I haven't seen one before (that wasn't custom made), and your link does not work. Jose -
Thanks. i just needed to look at the file. Jose

This is what i was gonna say! The old myth that you need backpressure for torque is not true. It's just a side effect. Its a properly designed exhaust the can can provide enough velocity to expell the exhuast. What you want is the venturi effect at the exhaust ports. Like when a car drives by a plastic bag, the bag wants to follow after from the 'pull' of the wind from the car. keep cars driving by, and the bags keeps going. This pulls the exhuast out, and helps suck in more fresh air for the next cycle. Its not an easy thing to accomplish. This is used to help change the powerband also. Best setups to use for the VG30 (this is my opinion, by the way): 2-1: 1.50" piping to a 2-1 muffler, with 1.75" piping out of it. Best to include a resonator or cat. 2-2: 1.50" pipng to a resonator, then to a muffler, with 1.50" continuing out. If these seem like small piping diameters to you, then just think of this. A Big block V8 with duals usually has a 2-2.5" exaust. they make big power, have big displacement, and have 4 cylinders to each exhaust. We have little power, little displacement, and only 3 cylinders to each exhaust. Again, this is my opinion, and just a guidline to what would help. Jose

anyone know where i can get a program to read .cad files?
-
Yea, mine gets 16MPG on a good day in the city. 21 on the highway if its just me and my dog inside. Do check tire pressure, becuase I've seen my MPG drop to like 12mpg before I realized that 2 of my tires were 10psi under. From what i've heard, the manual hubs may or may not help. Some seem to help, but others seem to not have any effect (or is it affect? damn eng'r'ish language). Also, how is your charging system? Ignition system? These two things, believe it or not, can really have a negative e(a)ffect on MPG if not upkept. Jose

Drivers side, passenger side, blah blah blah. 89trailboss showed us that don't mean nothing on our R50's!
-
Mine sat like that for a while because my sway bar endlink was bad. also anothere time because the strut bearing (spherical bearing) has broke and disapeared all together. By the way, whats BDS? Jose

What honda U-Joint is used to extend the steering?
-
Another quetion. What size are the blocks. i mean how wide are they? 2" 3"?
-
I don't know. From the pics i've seen of the other SFD's overseas, they always just had a block. Maybe they adjusted the steering shaft itself? And YAY for this being stickied!!! (or pinned...whatever) Jose

What size rims do I need for 33" to fit with SFD
180sx replied to Thunderbolt's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
That will work. I'm 95% sure. My 15x10's with 3.75" BS and 32x11.5 tires (used tires to test it before i took the wheels, so no pics of it) cleared the strut. The fenders not so much. -
OK I gotcha. Thanks. Those are great pics that show what everyone wants to see. This definately needs to get stickied at once! MODERATORS! ADMIN!! HELLO!!! lol.
-
Could alwasy do that block spacer where the rubber thing is instead of the joint...
-
michiganave - Can you rehost the pic? They are not showing for me. Or maybe its just my work comp? hmm... But good answer. That post should be stickied! SFD how-to! Jose
-
Prado...that was Tyler M.'s thing (tmorgan4). Thats no longer around. The whole SFD thing is a big topic with few doers. When you step back, it doesn't seem so complicated, but its always the small things that get to you. Don;t know how many there are with this. But a big snag aparently are the rear spacers or longer coils. Imma get to a junk yard soon to check things out. Have to. i want to do this at the same time I fix my pathy... Jose
-
Double post! I have 15x10's (not on, but i have them) with 3.75" BS. They stick out quite a bit (2" extra will do that I guess) and I know when I get my tires mounted (32x11.50) they will rub, no matter what. So a 15x8 with 2.5" of BS may only be about a 1" less out, but it will still rub like no tomorrow. Just be careful...

Designs are cool and everything, but a downside of that design tht has been brought up before is the fact that you lose departure angle quite a bit, since the bumber goes around the stock bumper, rather than replace it. Cool design to use if your not that serious into offroading though. Or maybe even easy to modify to replace the stock bumper... I do like the skid though.

Or maybe they just "noticed" the cats were cloged...shops are funny. used to work in one for a year. Can't begin to tell you the dirty things these people do. glad I can do all my own work. Jose

Seems like it would work no prob, just need enough lift to keep from rubbing, i assume. Jose -
Ummm....can we get some updates or pics or something?
-
If its just the heat shield, screw it and take it off. Thats what I did, Haven't had any draw backs or felt any extra heat (while i was driving it).

Well, if you can swap in 4.9's from an xterra, then they really are all the same, pretty much. I wonder if this means I can get gears from a Patrol rear axle (same good old H233B). Thanks for the help. I guess I can use the 4.56 gears on the D44 with my 4.63 gear in my H233, then ? Is that what you mean 87Pathy? And 87pathy, how are the radius arms? I was looking at this aftermarket long arm radius arm kit made for a Wrangler, thinking about using it on the pathy for ease of install and the fact that I don't have much space to work with under this Unibody wreck of a Nissan. I hear good and bad things about radius arms. Most of the negative i hear is about only having 2 bolts holding your axle to the frame (not including the track bar, i guess, since no one has ever mentioned it). Thanks again for your help guys. Jose
