Not just the weight, but the size of the boxes as well. The 94-95 is almost 3" more in the first dimension. A US gallon is defined as 231 cubic inches. Assuming a tank dimension of 20x30" with an additional 2" of depth, this equals 1200ci, divided by 231 gives you 5.19 US gallons, the missing 5 gallons. I'd bet the 80L (21ish US gallon) tank is: V6 94-95 P/N17202-61G00 16x27x37 inches 35 LBS Again, this is assuming the same foot print/mounting features for the tanks (boxes are roughly within 1" in these dimensions). You can check the tranny brain for stored codes as well, but unless there is a light pattern at start up, there shouldn't be any, kind of like the CEL. Disecting the old inline filter sounds like a good plan; always try to learn... B

Whoa! Only 1/2 of bad to begin with? Sounds like something is wrong. Is there any OBD system? Can you test the O2 sensor? Does it even have a MAF? Like I said, I don't know Jeeps at all... B

Agreed! Nothing wrong with those who want to build up like that, I just choose not to on this vehicle. Yeah, I grew up on dirt bikes so 4 wheel drives are mainly for getting to where it is worth riding the bikes. Yeah, while done is a relative term, I am just finishing a last major project before winter and should have time then to spend in the garage with a wrench, a truck and a beer. I don't mind the comments though, they are just jealous. A rally sounds like a lot of fun and there are many members up that way. There is usually a run in the fall called the Mr. Jim run to commemorate the founder of the site, so keep your eyes open for when it is discussed. It is often set up so even stock rigs can participate. (7000 miles a week. Damn!) B

I'll be using it for daily driving, camping and general light wheeling and exploring so it needs to be robust and reliable but also easily drivable with good road manners. The kind of truck you wouldn't hesitate to drive a few states, go exploring and then drive home while living out of it. In my version of wheeling, you don't get any points for getting stuck or breaking down. Here is how it sits now in my garage awaiting rear axle seals/brakes, power inverter, gauge pod and Xterra roof rack. Correct. Following the chart, +32mm offset would give you 5.25" backspacing on a 7" rim. 7" wide but I have no idea about the offset, I've never owned any. From what I understand, that is a chicken and egg debate which is why I prefer using backspacing methodology. Hard to get that wrong... You are mixing up your offset and backspacing nomenclature, it is impossible to have negative backspacing. B

I think you'll find that the vast majority of them are the 80L (21 gallon) ones. Make sure to get all the hardware and straps for the larger size tank, no counting that they will be the same... B

Yeah, the manual says you can shift on the fly at 55 MPH as well (or whatever), another thing I wouldn't recommend. B

I really wouldn't advise engine braking with an automatic like that. Having it locked in one gear and letting it run up and down in RPM is one thing but manually downshifting is really just putting a significant strain on the tranny. Brakes are far cheaper and easier to replace... B

I rather liked the looks of those when they came out, but I know nothing about their mechanics or quality. I'm glad you got what you needed/wanted, even if it is a Jeep. Yup, sounds like you did it right. Yes, it should last a lot longer than 180k, and the only thing that went wrong here is you having to fix what some careless PO did. It isn't like something failed... B

Offset is the deviation of the mounting surface from centerline of the rim and backspacing is the distance from the mounting surface to the back of the rim. This chart should explain... B

Yes, many people who install a body lift remove the lower piece (if they don't relocate the radiator) and it hardly affects the cooling at all. I'd be surprised if it was making any significant noise though... B
