  1. My guess is that the exploder is trying to live up to its name and runs near critical mass temperatures. No, really, my pathy warms up slowly, and the heat temp increases incrementally so I wonder if there is a thermostat in there or if it is stuck open. The bright side is that it runs fairly cool in the summer... Bernard
  2. Yep, I pretty much have to agree. Although I could give a dissertation on the virtues of bailing wire and vise grips also. We won't even go into zipties.... Bernard
  3. I purchased the Pro Comp ES3000 shocks from 4wheelparts with steering stab and black boots for $121. The shocks are nice but I have not had them on long enough to give a good review or state how long they last. They sure are BEEFY though !! Feels right in front, and a but stiff in the rear (unloaded). I didn't mount the SS yet (good thing or it would probably be smashed) but it was VERY stiff by hand. Was wondering how it would feel. In a couple of weeks I should be able to mount it (ES2000). I do have a brand new extra one sitting here if anyone is interested... Bernard
  4. Very well described.... In other words, yes, it will feel like there is less grunt, but .5" radius isn't going to make a huge difference. A better was to look at it is are you ok with the ability of your truck to push 32" tires ? If so, 33's probably wont make you cry, but if it is already lacking then don't go any bigger. Personally, I have 31" tires and would not go any larger with out engine power mods, but then that's just me. Just messing with you on the earlier post; I SORT OF understood what you were asking Bernard
  5. Yo FN. Just to be silly I'll state that there is no power loss when switching tire size; the motor runs the same regardless. From there, the 'felt' loss of acceleration is usually whe one increases not decreases tire size Did you mean the opposite ? Regardless, the 'power' loss would not be amazing for 1" difference in diameter, but will still be present... B
  6. Yes, Nissan manual states 75-90w for a 95, but I have 85-90w because thats all I could find when I needed it. It is a bit stiff when cold (30-40F) but loosens right up after a few miles so I don't think thats the whole problem. 'overfilling' recommended as per madkiwi's TSB in the garage section... Bernard
  7. Yeah, the double shifting can help... I find double clutching helps also with mine; it's stiff into first when it is cold. What weight oil are you running the the tranny ? Is is cold where you live ? These could be factors. Could also be syncro related... Bernard
  8. "post whoring" LMAO !!! Horns are useless anyway... Last joker I used it on just looked at me in the rear view and continued to merge; they would have clipped me if I didn't hit the brakes. Install air horns !! Had them on my last bike; it was fun to watch people swerve back to where they were comming from in a heart beat. It's kind of like the sound of a 12 gauge being cycled. Everyone knows the sound, that of imminent DOOM !! Bernard
  9. Personally, But then it's just me... I have some nice new BLACK boots that I didn't install; I run my shocks bare... Let me know if you want them, it would go much nicer with all the rest of the black components and the white shocks B
  10. OK Glenn, MAYBE you damaged a CV... So now you hear it driving straight; does it seem speed or bump related ? I seem to remember a post where someone said their front locker made noise, but it was "normal"... Might try searching the forum or reposting this in the garage. The more info you give, the more likely you get a (good) response. Bernard
  11. Hey Slick ! I read somewhere here that Bosch makes an O2 sensor for the pathy for a "reasonable" price; I trust their quality. I have a magnaflow catback system that the PO had bought/installed for about $250. I'm not up on my exhuast systems, but the pathy will move if I stomp on it, and has a nice low muted growl Nice mods !!! Wanna borrow my pathy for a few months ??? LOL Bernard
  12. Glenn, is the popping sound when you turn ??? Then I would definitely believe it's the CV's. Thats the classic definition. The compound angle of the lift + the wheel angle could torture your CV's more than usual. How old are they ? If the noise is while driving straight, I'm clueless... Bernard
  13. LOL NP, I was talking about assemblies with different materials... Water expands at freezing but doesn't loosen so that's no good... Ahh, I believe the russians have the answer !!! VODKA, the human antifreeze !!! Well sort of; you can still freeze, you just dont care... And it will definitely loosen up you muscles if you drink enough (and bowels, and bladder, and mouth) !! Best I can do is advise you to move. It was 60+F here most of the week (unusually warm). Hang in there bud... Bernard

    Jerky stops

Right on !! You are welcome, but you did the job... Snap ring pliers, are not often used, but VERY important when they are... Congrats again... B
  15. I'm in agreement with Boris... What was the cause ? Also 'it wasn't even on a couple of sides' makes me scratch my head, and I'm a machinist.... Not to say the guy is ripping you off, or that it wont run merrily till doomsday, but that explanation doesn't say much. I do not specialize in head work; maybe it's a special term ? Nah... Anyway, good luck and hope she is trouble free for a long while !! Bernard
  16. In actuality, due to the different coefficient of thermal expansion of various materials, some joints, pivots, etc will loosen, some will stay the same, and some will tighten up... B

    Jerky stops

Right on edta1, Good Job !! I'd be curious to know what the final cost was and how much time it took you VS the stealerships $400 price tag... Then there's always the good feeling of doing it yourself, not to mention if you ever have to do it again or trouble shoot the system, you know it very well now... Bernard

    Jerky stops

edta1, did you ever get the rotors off ?? What was the hang up ? Sorry I wasn't able to inform you, but I am suprised no one chimed in with information... B
  19. LOL TI REN and NP, why in the world do you live there ?? I'm spoiled here in California (yes, I know) but I cant even imagine dealing with temperature like that on a regular basis... I grumble when I see frost ! Actually, -35C is about -25F so it sounds like you might as well be neighbors. I had someone visit my work from Minnesota in the winter and he loved the 50 degree weather. Then he stated that 2 weeks in fall MN was the most beautiful place in the US; I asked him what he did the other 50... Hang in there !! Bernard
  20. You have a voltmeter ?? DHOOO !! Thats what I get for buying a cheap XE I was actually planning to install a volt/oil pres & temp cluster. Anyone know of a good source ? B
  21. Hey MM. I'd say it's slide pins, piston in the caliper not 'free' or air in the system. Regardless, your calipers are not retracting... Good news it that it's a relatively cheap and easy fix... Just for kicks, try bleeding them first... Bernard
  22. Good job Angel ! No, it's generally not that difficult to work on the brakes, just more important to do it right.... Sounds like you will get this done for $500 or so+time. A far cry from the $1500 the stealer wanted, eh ? Happy $1K !! Bernard
  23. Just a hunch, but have you considered the fuel filter ? I had an older Nissan PU, and the fuel filter clogged in 1 weekend; it would run fine to a certain throttle position, then blubber. A different car I had would drive fine, but die on steep hills... Just seems similiar, and it is a quick cheap item. The fact that the stealer suspects fuel delivery issues also coinsides... Bernard
  24. Hey Adelard. Oils are oils and break down. Do you change your engine oil ? If the truck has 115K on it, and you don't know if/when the oils have been changed, change them. The tranny/diff's/cylinders like this.... The regular change interval for most of the fluids is 30k miles. Thicker oil will make things feel different when cold, but I have never heard of this with brake/clutch fluid. By theory, if your clutch is releasing slow, then your brakes would do the same. sounds like something is binding or something. First step is changing ALL fluids. This is what I did with my truck to start a maintence schedule, and treat it nice. Your manual will tell you what and how much of anything to put in, and if there is a viscosity range, go with the lighter stuff in the winter... Bernard
